Opinions on Jetter Mars?

I see a lot of misinformation about this show going around. This show was originally pitched as a sequel to Astro Boy, but evolved into its own thing during development. Which I think is for the best, since Mars literally being a rebuilt version of Atom "but better" kind of puts him in a precarious position that I think fans wouldn't have liked. Especially since his personality was so different from Atom even as early as in the pitch.

Game looks different

Started newly playing Omega Factor, the lack of 1980s Atlas in this franchise is disappointing. Me personally this is my favorite design and rendition of his character than 2003, so I drew over 1980s Atlas in the Stage 4 scene🤞

If I could change anything about the upcoming show, Personally, I think they could make him look a little less feminine. And smaller eyes and hair spikes.❤️

Hey guys! I've been a huge fan of Astro Boy since I was a little girl and it's one of my hyperfixations. It's gotten worse as an adult lol, but I somehow never managed to stumble upon this rather interesting piece of media. Now, I cant find much information regarding this other than it was released in 1959, and it was a series. The costume looks uncanny valley and grabbed my intrigue since im a sucker for uncanny, etc that sort of stuff. According to IMDB, it had only one season with 13 episodes. If you go to the link you'll find 5 stills of it. It looks uncanny but cool at the same time!

Anyone else love Omega Factor?

Astro Boy Omega Factor is often praised as one of the best games on the GBA, but what do you all think of it? I personally have it in my top 5 beat em ups of all time as well as my favorite Gameboy Advance game(sorry Drill Dozer), personally considering it better than alot of modern ones.

Omega Factor has its own canon and continuity going on, but the characters seem to be based off the 80s series mainly. It even has cameos from all sorts of characters from other Tezuka series. Overall it's an amazing experience I recommend to anyone if possible.

The record is broken but the aet still decent. Figurine is unopen, that was a steal around 1000¥. Little key rings were in a capsule machine in Taipei.

Astroboy Cool Stuff

I lost a little weight so I was doing a little bit of spring cleaning in my wardrobe and I saw this awesome astroboy stuff we bought last year in Japan. The hoodie look so good with all the texture and embroidered details. The pullover is filled with awesome patches and for me the best tee is this one, fully holographic! You can literally see the details of his body! Not sure yet if I keep em since they are too big now but maybe I may get big again haha.

As a child, I first saw Astroboy in the summer of 1986 on WTGI Channel 61 out of Wilmington, Delaware.  A few years back, during my undergrad years, I ordered an Astroboy Region 4 DVD box set (from Australia) which had the original first two episodes uncut.  After searching online, I finally learned the reason for the heavily edited pilot from an Astroboy website dedicated to Osamu Tezuka.

Apparently, the Japanese version of Astroboy (Tetsuwan Atomu) was a bit too dark for American children.  There are religious references, alcohol use, and of course, violence and death.  The English dubs are toned down, but the intended darker tone is still there in episodes like Blackie Young (robots being dismembered) and The Anti-Proton Gun (Walpurgis is vaporized in gruesome fashion).

The biggest factor here is the omission of Atlas’ backstory, which is sad and cruel.  I like to believe that Atlas is the poster boy for child abuse and neglect.  In the episode Atlas Lives Again, we see flashbacks of Astro fighting Atlas, but I never knew how Atlas became an adult, because it was cut from the English version.

So when I watched the episode Crystal of the Desert, I was confused because I was only treated to a brief flashback of damaged boy Atlas repairing himself and Livian after Walpurgis tried to destroy him.  The image of damaged boy Atlas on the work table with Livian’s wreckage is a haunting image and it stays with me until today.

When I finally watched the Japanese edit of Episode 2 Astro vs Atlas, it all came full circle.  I finally got to see how Atlas was damaged and why he had to rebuild himself.  Atlas is a mistreated foster child looking for a forever home, but all he got was mistreatment and abuse.

In the end, the humans who were supposed to look after Atlas used him and abandoned him.  Walpurgis dismantled Livian (basically tortured her for breaking a gargoyle statue) and he tried to blow up Atlas using heat seeking missiles.

It's really sad to see poor Atlas drag his broken body all the back to the castle.  It’s heartbreaking to see Atlas trying to find comfort among the mangled remains of Livian, the only one who ever showed him any kind of compassion.

No wonder Atlas became such a tyrant.  Atlas was an adult with a wounded child on the inside, like many of us who carry childhood trauma and pain with us.  Atlas was forced to grow up.  His adult appearance is proof of that.  Astro was there to remind Atlas that innocence is to be valued.

I land my plane.

Imagine being born basically at the same time and the random Cheeto dust looking kid that used to randomly beat you up (and still does), has a whole new upgrade from kid to adult, and that to the point he is actively trying to make you the little brother instead to take over the world, like what😭

What part of any astro boy show or the movie would you like to see reoccur in the upcoming reboot?

Personally, id like if they added something with the blue core energy, Astro being able to jump start any dead robot or device was really cool to see. but I love his kokoro too.

Wow! This trailer for the Tezuka: God of Manga documentary looks amazing! It looks like they've already recorded interviews with some real heavy-hitters! I can't wait for this!

A few years back, when I was in undergrad, I put together a music video essay based on the 1980 Astroboy series. It is a tribute to Astro and Atlas to the song "Jah World" by Wu Tang Clan. It's a bit dated, and I'd like to redo the video with updated footage (4K Ultra). For now, take a look at this piece of nostalgia.
