This pogo colony is around 3 years old and I feel like a larger nest is needed very soon, if not now. I noticed many cut in half or decapitated workers and thought it may be due to overcrowding.
I thought I caught a carpenter ant queen and about 2 days later it's dead. It looked like camponotus pennsylvania just alot smaller. The test tube for size comparison is 16x150mm.
Hey all.
I have a question, the mold in my test tube is getting pretty bad.
I am worried its getting to the point that it is unhealthy for the ants.
They dont seem to mind, the queen is huddled right next to it, but i wanna be sure if they are ok or if i should move them.
And if they need to move how could i best do that?
My colony is about five years old. It seems that the queen has died, and 90% of the colony shows no signs of life. How can I tell if it might be hibernation? If the queen of the colony really died, what should I do next?
I have more queen ants than I can handle and I want to sell em to people anyone know if theres a website or something that could help me
Anyone know what species of ant that was? NYC btw
Hi all, I recently got into ant farming and I'm looking for other enthusiasts. Unfortunately, living in Australia, I got into the hobby at the wrong time of year, but I'm keen to meet others who are in the field to see their setups and just share a mutual interest on these guys.
I'm located in New York
The ones that are interesting and don’t mind being disturbed, i’v got 3 more but they only have two or no workers and are skittish.
If anyone knows the species that would be appreciated.
They are recently out of hibernation and have laid a new batch of eggs. I’v got one setup in a tub ware container still in their original tube and the other in a 3d printed nest attached to a fish tank that was criminally small for fish, They prefer the water test tube for a nursery though and the queen will run back and forth between the nest and tube.
On the 1st of this month, I captured this majestic creature on my terrace using an empty medicine bottle, which I carefully cleaned, removing any residue that could harm it. It still had its wings, but the next day I realized I had removed them.
Yes. I left it to sleep in the bottle overnight, as I didn't have a test tube ready to transfer it to (I solved that the next day). After some initial resistance, the transfer was successful, and finally, it was where it wanted to be (I assumed this when I found a small egg in the tube the next day). 😄
So, I decided to leave it alone for at least a week, observing it at least once a week. Last week, I found clusters of eggs and posted a video here, trying to figure out what kind of Camponotus it was, and a week later, here's what I found in today's observation.
Is it a larva? Oh my God, I'm so happy! So happy! 🤩🤩
Been looking to sell / buy or even trade couple queens but I haven't found any ant keepers in morocco so just posting this to perhaps link up with anyone
I’m curious about what species this is.
