With Wyze nearly doubling their subscription pricing, a lot of us are being pushed into paying more just to keep features that used to feel standard. That didn’t sit right with me, so I started looking into alternatives—and found something worth sharing.

There’s an open-source firmware called Thingino (https://thingino.com) that can replace the stock Wyze firmware on supported cameras. It essentially gives you full control back over your device—no forced subscriptions, more flexibility, and a lot more transparency into what your camera is actually doing.

What really surprised me is how approachable it is. I expected a complicated flashing process, but there’s actually a straightforward install method with a step-by-step video guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcpuRz04zVg

If you’re frustrated with the direction Wyze is heading, it’s at least worth knowing that you have options. Curious if anyone else here has tried Thingino or other alternatives? Would love to hear your experiences or thoughts.

Arrrggghhhhh!

I have 3 v2 floodlights and man they are frustrating! Ready to rip them off the wall! Constantly offline, sd card won’t load, light won’t turn off, automations won’t work. All v2’s were fine until the last firmware update.

Tried different sd cards, power cycling, reinstalling the cameras and the app. Everything has a good wifi strength. I’m out of ideas.

Also have a flood light pro, a couple of v3’s, v4’s, pan cams and Wyze og’s that are working flawlessly. So I think it’s something to do with the floodlight v2. I really wish I would have left the old light fixtures on with the bulb cam instead of the floodlight v2. I’m hoping there will be a new firmware update soon and that will fix it. I have submitted a log but there isn’t enough space to list all the problems with them.
Any tips or are they just a bad product?
Thanks

I was checking my subscriptions on Google Play when I noticed a message. I currently have two Wyze cameras that I paid $40 a year for. So this will be a $20 increase.

I will be cancelling my subscription come January.

There's also reports that SD cards aren't working on some of their cameras.

I left Blink for Wyze because of their price hikes. Luckily I found another security camera without monthly or annual subscription.

Duo Doorbell Cams turning off

I have two duo doorbell, cameras, two different properties that are doing the same thing. They are both coming up as turned off every time I go to view.

Not capturing any events other than pressing the doorbell button

Firmware up-to-date on both the iOS app and the devices

I have cam plus and security

Reset services

Reset the devices

Deleted from account, factory reset and reset up the devices

Hardwired and getting 24 V from the transformer

Battery is green showing charging and battery tested good

Full strength WiFi.

No power issues

Accessing from MyWyze on Windows 11 chrome does not show the device is turned off, but it does take a while to connect.

My cam plus is coming up in a week and starting to think of options for vendors that support multiple locations and a more of an open ecosystem. Between time spent on this and the fact that you need to subscribe to monitoring in order to simply reset or even silence a leak detector alarm is ridicules.

I've had hundreds of these notifications over the last few days, seemingly every time my garage door is opened. I've changed the batteries. I've cleared the cache in the app. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, nothing stops it. Any ideas what the heck is going on? It's driving crazy

I setup a v2 pan tilt on a pattern using 4 waypoints continuously. The camera is mounted up side down. Initially, it followed the pattern correctly for a few weeks. Recently, after several hours it will point lower but continue the same pattern. If I restart the camera, it will begin the correct pattern again for several hours. I'm running the most recent firmware and Android app and have no detection zones and such. Ideas?

Had this camera for about 3yrs with the occasional disconnect error iv22-2004 was on Cam plus so the error wasn’t frequent about 1-2 a year now I got more cams to save money I upgraded to the Cam unlimited now the doorbell cam pro does connect no matter how many times I power cycle my router or the chime or delete and reinstall the camera to app still doesn’t connect. It must be a backend server side issue they have not fixed. I check recent firmware for it and it s from 2023 that is pathetic. They are aware of this issue for years and haven’t fixed it and still selling the product WTF. I cancelled my cam unlimited but it doesn’t expire till June so I’m stuck with a useless doorbell cam for almost 2 months. After the plan expires I plan to reinstall and put it on a separate cam plus plan before but if that doesn’t work I’ll have to get a different brand which sucks bc I wanted them all on the same app! Come on WYZE do better! If you disable power saving and tun off motion detection just to get it to connect then what’s the point and the batter won’t last 6 months smh…
