Hi everyone.

I’m working on an indie action RPG called EDEN’S FRONTIER.

A lot of the game comes from the kind of games I grew up with in the late 90s and early 2000s. Ragnarok Online is probably one of the clearest influences, and I think that shows in the top-down view, the characters/atmosphere, etc.

There is also a lot of inspirations from PS1 era RPGs, SEGA games, Zelda-like exploration, and that feeling of finding strange places without the game explaining everything too much.

I just released a new trailer, focused on one of the first areas of the game:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpWqvSLMyXU

Some quick details:

  • Real-time action RPG combat
  • HD pixel art characters with 3D environments
  • Semi-open areas focused on exploration and discovery
  • Equipment, cards (also playable cards here), and character builds
  • At least 3 playable characters planned
  • One area inspired by Liberdade, São Paulo’s Japanese district (this one's very interesting for who already knows this neighborhood)
  • Original story also expanded through a webcomic (1st chapter published already https://edensfrontier.com/manga-online-1-en/)

The game is already playable with it's core mechanics, but not finished yet, we have a lot to do! So we have opened sign ups for playtests on Steam to gather feedback and keep improving the experience.

There are also several systems, ideas and other areas I have not shown yet. Some are still being tested internally, and some are things I want to shape better with feedback from people who enjoy this kind of game.

Steam page (could you wishlist it? It would help me A LOT):
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3397010/EDENS_FRONTIER/

Discord, for anyone who wants to follow development or join our playtests:
https://discord.gg/qZveFcFD9d

I would really like to hear what people think after watching the trailer.

Like, what would you personally want to see more of in a game like this?

I’m still adding ideas and refining the direction, so honest feedback would be very helpful right now. 😄

Why do people like Ys VIII so much?

I'm so done with this. Everyone says Lacrimosa is the best Ys game and i genuinely tried to love it. Just dropped it for the fifth time btw.

My acquaintance with Ys began with Napishtim. I fell in love with the battle system since it was so dynamic and it progressed with time (new swords, new abilities). When i grew up i was able to catch up with the plot and absolutely loved it too.

And Napishtim was my favourite game until i met Origin. Man, this is PEAK, imo.

I also played Seven on my psp. Kinda interesting, but i didn't like that game is forcing you to use precise chars for the precise enemies.

But when i tried VIII, it felt like I was moving through the jelly, the battle system feels slow. Devs tried to make the game cinematic, but characters in cutscenes felt clumsily, like i see every animation's start and end. I thought it would be fine after some time, Origin needed some time at the start too, but it feels like a torture. Is something wrong with me? Or are 3d Ys games (idk what this engine named, which Celceta, Lacrimosa, Nox are using) just aren't my cup of tea?

I tried to like it so hard, but ended up just starting Origin again, lol. Is there a point to try Nordics? Or would it be just a waste of money for me?

Hugo is my guy!

Bought Ys Origin on steam and PS4 years ago but only dabbled in the game for a few min.

Just bought it on my Switch 2 for portability a day ago and loving it! This game is really good. I actually love Hugo’s personality. He’s got a decent balance of arrogance, intelligence, wit, and empathy.

His eyes of Fact are 🔥. One of my top weapons for a game character.

Ys Oath in Felghana Inferno last & secret boss

I beat some weeks ago the game on inferno and since I had the Steam Deck recording lying around, I decided to upload it! It was really fun

Ark of Napishtim Publisher

When (it's inevitable) Ark of Napishtim is given the same treatment as Oath and Celceta on Switch and PlayStation, who would have the publishing rights in the West? Konami (PS2 & PSP publisher) or Xseed (PC publisher)?

How is Ys X and Ys IX on switch 1 ?

I want to buy these games physically, and I only own a switch 1. How are they ? low fps ? low resolution ? Keep in mind that I'm going to play them on the go, not on the dock

Beat Ys I & II

I actually played the SMS version of I, and then this one on Turbografx CD with both I and II.

About the SMS one, i wasnt the biggest fan of the farming, but liked the gameplay, and, most of all, the bosses, even if the mayority wasnt too strong when i was allowed to damaged them.

On the Turbografx CD, i find the random enemies are wathever, even more than on SMS version (i things after this 2 games, you can actually attack, so i guess that will make them better). But, because the level cap for bosses is reduced, i found the I bosses much more fun, because i actually needed to learn patters to beat them at low level.

About II, the same problem with random enemies, but Dungeon exploration feels more fun than on the first Game (Solomon shrine was hardcore 😂).The II bosses where ok, but much less interesting (except the final one). Even when i needed farm, the game offered easy farming spots, so no problem there.

Of the 2, i enjoied more the bosses of I, but i think i like more the gameplay of 2. Still, i found the games fun to play, and not too long.

There are my first Ys games. I will try 3 and 4 next :D.

Replaying 7 and...

I love it so much. Missed these loveable dorks more than I realized. But it really needs an update. Its either 7 or napishtim that needs the update the most.

Pleasantly surprised that Oath in Felghana comes with a small guide booklet :D

Decided to gift myself a birthday present and man, was it a rMadeMeSmile moment to see this!

Admittedly I don't buy a lot of games lately but when is the last time a modern game comes with one of these little guidebooks guys?? Reminds me of the main reason I'd always choose physical over digital copy :)

What's the name of the engine that the older style Ys games were created with?

The games like Ark of Napishtim, Oath in Felghana, Origins, etc?

I really miss those types of Ys games; they were so damn fun. Are there any other games that play similarly to those?

Thanks in advance.

I suppose I should finish the game finally...

I got 7 hp+100 drinks, do I give 1 to everyone, or use them all on Adol? Got 2-3 of all them elixir, could give them all to Adol and be God Mode ✝️

I'm interested in the Ys games, I've played 1 and 2, but ran into a bit of a snag while trying to find 3 on Steam. The next game with a number is 6? But there's Ys Origin, Ys Memories of Celceta, and Ys the Oath in Felghana. Are those supposed to be Ys 3, 4, and 5? If so, which one's which?

Erm... is falcom really out here charging $150 for Ys 10 Proud Nordics ultimate edition?

Because that is... that is pretty wild. I was perusing the ps5 store and remembered that ys 10 got a re-release, making me glad I waited, and since I finally beat 9 in the beginning of the year, thought about checking what is available.

But that price really took me by surprise, and it doesn't even have like, gameplay content type dlc it seems to be just a whole bunch of item packs. So that really shocked me. Its a huge leap from i think Ys 9 being... $80 with the extra content?

What's next to play after Ys VIII and Ys IX ?

I played Ys VIII several years ago and enjoyed it so much. Still remember most characters and the story. It felt so refreshing.

Then I did Ys IX too the next year, the story build up was good about >!homunculus Adol!< but tbh I already forgot most of the characters hahaha

What game do you suggest me to play next?

I play on PC with Steam. Should I go for Proud Nordics, Ys Origins, Ys Oath, Ys Memories of Celceta or something else?
