Anyone have an OPVS gym membership willing to explain the gym equipment?

Okay, maybe a weird ask, but I have been going to OPVS (thanks to another post this page!) and I know some equipment, and some have images on how to use them, but a lot in the big ground floor room do not and I do not know how to go about learning them when I don't know the machines names to Google.

If anyone has a membership and would be willing to meet up and explain them that would be great. Willing to pay! I can also check you in with one of my visitor check ins and then you're totally welcome to stay and use the gym after. If you feel pretty versed on most equipment since you wouldn't be familiar with their equipment specifically.

I am a woman but don't care what gender you are as long as you won't be bothered by me wearing a mask! Feel free to comment or dm me.

SB79 - impact on gay bars on Santa Monica Blvd?

Do I understand SB79 correctly? No one can deny the land value just went through the roof…

I’m just now starting to comprehend what I think this means.

  1. Effective July 1, essentially the entire gay bar district on Santa Monica Blvd can theoretically be converted to 6-9 story apartment buildings with NO parking requirements?

  2. Won’t many of the landlords take the developer money and sell off their properties? Tear down the 1-2 story older current buildings?

  3. Can you imagine the impact and disruption on Santa Monica Boulevard’s gay bars with construction from just one 6-9 story building being built on Santa Monica Boulevard? Not to mention multiple?

Would You Sell Your Home? SB79

Hello All!

I previously posted about a flyer I received on my door about the upcoming Upzoning/Rezoning of weho that’s starting in July. I also extended the information about the upcoming Weho meeting on April 22nd at the ACR/Pool Building -5th floor- 8750 El Tovar Place at 6:30pm. In this meeting will be further discussion about the Upzoning/Rezoning.

I couldn’t update my original post for some reason so I’m making a new one-

Thank you all for your perspectives and providing points of thought about the above issue. Especially in regard to RSO buildings. I did some further digging of my own and yes- I do not consider this redlining- and yes, I do see protections for RSO units built into SB79, although my faith and trust in the government isn’t concrete enough for me to not still hold some weariness and concern.

All this being said, my new question is-

Are there any homeowners in this subreddit? If so, if a developer came to you and offered you a large sum, would you sell your home?

I now feel… slightly better? Knowing that, according to SB79, my RSO unit cannot be torn down… (still dunno if I trust this) but, I live nestled in the center of various houses since I am in 1R.

So I am curious as to how many people, if any, would be willing to sell their homes for the developers?

West Hollywood sushi - small mom and pop style places. Walking from London Hotel

Hi - I’ve done this stay before and found an amazing place about 15 mins walk from the hotel. Small, local type of place. Can’t recall what it was but in the absence of that I’d appreciate local recommendations for my return soon. Solo diner, midweek visit. Thanks.

Dentists for no insurance / low income?

Hi! My boyfriend (28m) has never been to the dentist, it wasn’t prioritized in his life growing up and he has never had dental insurance in adulthood. He has a lot of plaque buildup, and definitely needs to see a dentist in my opinion for a deep clean at the very least. I know some schools will offer discounted checkups / cleanings, does anyone have any resources to share? Thanks in advance!

Rezoning and Upzoning

Hey guys,

So there have been various meetings about the upzoning and rezoning that will be happening in West Hollywood starting July 1st due to the developers coming in and turning single family homes into 5-8 story homes to account for the new rail lines.

This will mean that RSO units are going to be torn down in lieu of developers building buildings that will have “affordable units” whose rent will be much more than what you’re paying now.

Do you all not know about this?

If yes-

are you ok with this?

Or-

Have you been going to the meetings to build up community support to combat this?

If no-

Why are you ok with this?

Would you like more information about this?

There’s a meeting in the 22nd. Is anyone going?

Don’t Make It Easy

So today someone tried to steal my bike. I managed to recover it an 30 mins after the incident thanks to AirTags and rental scooters. Always be aware of the situation, be safe and don’t make it easy for them by having those security contingency plans for your vehicle.

This happened at La Brea and Santa Monica , locked up next to the Target entrance.

Those extra securities people think aren’t worth it, will save you $$$ . Better to have it and not need it, than to not have it at all.

Edit: For those asking for more context.

I’m a delivery driver and I Locked my bike up at the Target on La Brea and Santa Monica upstairs on a pole between the entrance of Target and the elevator.

When I returned , my bike is gone. Lock was completely gone (a chain combination lock) It’s unknown what he used or how he destroy the lock . I’ll make any updates as I find out more about the investigation . What also bothered me , there are two security guards present in that center, I even said hi to one while locking my bike and yet no one saw anything. I understand it’s not their responsibility but for someone to be stealing things right under their noses is disappointing.

*This part isn’t something anyone should do. Your safety is number 1 and wait for the authorities to arrive.*

That being said.

I had an AirTag hidden on the bike and located it on La Brea and Sunset sitting there. I called 911, rented a scooter and followed the ping to the corner.

While on the phone with the operator I found this guy in the photo sitting on my bike acting like he didn’t just steal it. I managed to obtain my bike with my pepper spray in hand yelling at the top of my lungs , he dropped my bike and gave it back but I wasn’t going to let him get away with it. He makes a run for it the second he hears sirens , I’m at a distance following him relaying the details to the operator, he runs into the Ross thinking he got away but security and sheriffs had already arrived and managed to detain him. I gave the detailed description of the man to the sheriffs and saw his phone was still attached to my bike. Gave that to the officers while they made the arrest.

I understand things could’ve ended differently, I am aware of the idiocy of trying to recover my property. If it ended differently it would’ve been a different story , but with the world changing and people feeling confident to steal other’s livelihood makes it hard to stand by.

Michael Jackson let us all know “All I wanna say is that they don't really care about us (don't you sit back and watch the beatin')”. Don’t just sit back and watch. People will keep doing this unless we make it harder for them.

Use multiple hidden AirTags or any similar tracking system. 2 locks (might be tedious but a determined theft will do anything) and don’t leave anything behind. This is the fourth bike in 20 years that’s been stolen but the 1st successfully recovered.

Do you think the LASD is doing enough to respond to evidence of drugging and chemical assault in WeHo clubs?

Or do you think the LASD needs to do more? Would you like to see them form a task force to investigate and tackle the issue?

Recommendations for Hair Blowout in WEHO?

Recommendations for Hair Blowout in WEHO?

I would normally go to DryBar when I don’t know the area and usually head to DTLA but am staying in WEHO side this time. The reviews for drybar in WEHO make me nervous. Any other recommendations?

$50-80 budget. No haircut.

WeHo locals: what should a same-night plans list include?

I’m trying to make a better list of last-minute things to do around West Hollywood, especially for nights when you don’t want to scroll through a bunch of calendars.

Draft is here: https://sidequesttonight.com/

For WeHo, what would make this actually useful?

* happy hours with actual times/deal details
* walkable dinner/drinks around Santa Monica Blvd, Sunset, or Melrose
* live music, comedy, drag, trivia, karaoke, or art events
* late-night food
* free/cheap options
* patios or quieter spots
* good for going solo or a casual date
* good before/after a show
* parking/transit notes
* events that don’t require planning a week ahead

Mostly looking for local feedback so the WeHo results don’t feel generic.
