What is War Metal?
Hey, folks! So, the last few days I've been wondering how extreme a band can be to be considered War Metal.
On being extreme I mean should always the guitars be drowned by the production or the other instruments? An audible guitar necessarily makes it less war metal? The music is necessarily more rhythmic based than riff? (Especially because the dynamic of a War Metal song is based on a notion of chaotic blast beats and tremolo and a brief break of groovy bits to not make it boring) The thing is what determines War Metal as a whole? Because in short it can be understood as just Black Metal and Death Metal mixed to make it as brutal as possible. But what is it in long? And another thing I've been thinking about is the whole bad and good production in War metal.
As we know bad production is very present in War Metal, since the dawn of the genre with Blasphemy, Beherit etc... We've been gifted with terrible production that adds to the atmosphere. But modern times came and we got bands like the Antichrist Siege Machine, which has really good production but doesn't step away from Barbaric ways of the genre. And we have Tetragrammacide which was a case in that we got the best of both worlds. Probably the worst production I've ever heard on a release on their early stuff, but really good production in the latest stuff.
So let me know your guys opinions! Cheers!
Teitanblood - The Baneful Choir
The booklet is so mean bruh 😭 Why do they hate cd collectors?
Really curious to hear peoples takes or predictions on what acts will be playing, on may 19th the full lineup will be announced.
Conqueror - War.Cult.Supremacy LP (2002 Death To Mankind)
Primitive Warfare - Extinction Protocol LP (2024 Stygian Black Hand)
Revenge - Triumph.Genocide.Antichrist picture disc LP (2004 NWN! Die Hard Edition)
I'm brazilian and i just don't understand how some poeple call Holocausto sketchy (possibly because of stupidity and the uncensored cover art for Campo de Extermínio), at the moment i'm translating the lyrics for their first album
Campo de Extermínio | Extermination CampNos Campos de Concentração | On Concentration CampsSoldados Armados | Armed SoldiersNazistas Sádicos | Sadistic NazisExterminam a Sangue Frio | Exterminate with Cold BloodDitadores Loucos | Crazy DictatorsSentem Prazer em Torturar | Feels Pleasure in TortureOficiais da Gestapo | Gestapo's OfficialsEspalham a Morte | Spread Death
just like Slayer's Angel of Death, Holocausto is telling what happened and criticizing wars and gangs in the whole album (besides, this was released after the dictatorship that happened in the 80s in Brazil), just use google translate to see what the fuck the lyrics is about
despite all of this, the album is important to the war metal genre and it's one of my favorites
Tetragrammacide - Typho-Tantric Aphorisms from the Arachneophidian Qur'an LP (2023 Iron Bonehead)
Hellfire Deathcult - Al Nombre De La Muerte
Don’t see this band get a lot of attention, which is a fucking shame.
Question about Morbosidad
So I’m a huge fan of Morbosidad, and since Spanish is my native language, I can understand most of the lyrics in songs like Altar de Sangre Negra, Cadáver Descompuesto en la Cruz or Sangriento Sacrificio Cristiano, but some songs that are supposedly in Spanish are literally just gibberish to me, like Ritual en el Pentagrama or Muerto en Mi Propia Sangre
Are those lyrics actually in English? Does anybody know?
Revenge - Violation.Strife.Abominatr
We are french fuck you II-III
Primitive warfare shirt (necrolustdie)
Angelcorpse - The Inexorable
Why is there a song titled Wolflust? Is Helmkamp a furry?
Ok, so I've been going crazy, because I am making a song with the same rythm of this song but I just can't get my head around the BPM or time signature. Because the blast beats are going off really fast but the rythm can be understood like 130-133 BPM, but clearly the BPM isn't that. (Note I am using a drum machine to make the drums of the song)
