What is War Metal?
Hey, folks! So, the last few days I've been wondering how extreme a band can be to be considered War Metal.
On being extreme I mean should always the guitars be drowned by the production or the other instruments? An audible guitar necessarily makes it less war metal? The music is necessarily more rhythmic based than riff? (Especially because the dynamic of a War Metal song is based on a notion of chaotic blast beats and tremolo and a brief break of groovy bits to not make it boring) The thing is what determines War Metal as a whole? Because in short it can be understood as just Black Metal and Death Metal mixed to make it as brutal as possible. But what is it in long? And another thing I've been thinking about is the whole bad and good production in War metal.
As we know bad production is very present in War Metal, since the dawn of the genre with Blasphemy, Beherit etc... We've been gifted with terrible production that adds to the atmosphere. But modern times came and we got bands like the Antichrist Siege Machine, which has really good production but doesn't step away from Barbaric ways of the genre. And we have Tetragrammacide which was a case in that we got the best of both worlds. Probably the worst production I've ever heard on a release on their early stuff, but really good production in the latest stuff.
So let me know your guys opinions! Cheers!
