Happy Cinco de Mayo everybody. Using today as an excuse to get the best vegan Mexican cuisine this city has to offer. Any and all suggestions are appreciated!
I’m not an alarmist and I don’t have any further context other than this email I received last night, but having closed the Calabasas December of 2024, the messaging here is clear.
LA restaurants are hard enough to keep afloat, elevated experiences even harder.
If you like Crossroads and don’t want to lose it, consider going. Even consider taking your non vegan friends to show them what is possible with a plant based meal.
I ate there last week and had most new items from the spring menu, def order the turnip dish!
Monty’s good burger Echo Park location only is doing breakfast this weekend only, May 3rd last day. I went this morning and got the strawberry matcha and deluxe sandwich. It was easily the BEST breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had I was blown away. The strawberry matcha was super high quality tasted like it came from an artisan cafe which was wonderfully unexpected.
If you’re seeing this you have GOT to go tomorrow for breakfast. It was empty when I went and it really should’ve been full with how good this sandwich is. If this weekend is successful they might do it again and I need this sandwich again!! Please go<3
Hey! I’ve been to Chinatown many times but honestly I’m never eating out in the area, can you all recommend places that have some vegan friendly options?
I’m not interested in fully vegan (I can look that up easily), more like regular places that you guys have figured out how to order vegan or that maybe naturally have vegan options
Thanks!
Hello! I am a sociology major and for my qualification work I investigate veganism and its connections to morality. If you are vegan, you can help me by completing the survey in Google Forms.
Your answers are anonymous and will be used for academic purposes only. Email address is not required to complete the form. You can skip any question if you do not want to answer it.
Questions are mostly about morals (for instance, justice or respect for traditions) and aspects of veganism (motivation, the importance of it in everyday life). It shouldn't take you more than 10-15 minutes to complete the survey. I truly appreciate your help, so thank you for your cooperation!
Crunchy deep-fried veggies (eggplant, etc.) in sandwiches?
Are there any places that include sandwiches which have crunchy, deep-fried vegetables in them? I know some places do eggplant cutlets in sandwiches but they smother them in marinara or other sauces and make them soggy.
Are there any places that keep the deep fried vegetables crispy in a sandwich?
Most Sake houses have a few vegan things but wondering if there’s any spots that are really amazing?
Vegan Sushi With Attitude was a ghost kitchen, but I sure miss it.
Bday dinner tonight, Tane Izakaya or Men & Beasts?
Hey guys! I don’t order out much these days but looking to get a nice dinner for my birthday with a small group of friends. Which of these options would you prefer? Haven’t been to either but both look great.
Shrinkflation hits Masa? No more Teese cheese
Masa has switched from Chicago-based Teese to a house-made mozzerella and unfortunately it’s very saucy 😭

I’m having a baby shower in June for like 40 people and am getting quotes from places I know but I feel like there’s more businesses out there that I’m forgetting. Any suggestions? Doesn’t have to be an entirely vegan establishment. Just looking for vegan friendly catering. Going to go with the cheapest and best option
LA County health inspections, 2023–2026. "Pest violation" = facility ever cited for rodents, insects, or vermin in a routine inspection.
- Vegan: 28.7% pest rate (n=94)
- LA average: 43%
- 14 points below average, p < 0.005

Disclosure: I build an iPhone app that surfaces LA health scores, not mentioning the name here. This analysis came out of working with that data.
Hey all, I travel to LA for work every couple months or so and I often find myself dining alone when I can't drag omni coworkers/friends to vegan restaurants or don't feel like listening to people complaining about the lack of animal products. I'd love to meet some new people in LA who I can go to vegan restaurants with when I'm in town.
I'm next in town 5/10-5/13, if anyone's interested in meeting up let me know!
Edit - Since a few people asked, I figured I should say this here - I'm usually on the west side - West Hollywood/Culver City area.
I went to the farmer’s market this morning to pick up my semi-regular stash of Dave’s Tempha…and was shocked to see this sign. I’ve been eating Dave’s Tempha for over a decade…my kids love it…and now - poof. Gone. This might be the most devastating local vegan loss for me. The other stuff they have is great, too - but Tempha was so unique and delicious. If you never had it, it was like a vegan Korean fish cake. A great snack & a great addition to soups, salads, etc.
RIP TEMPHA!!!!! 😭😭😭😭
Apparently there’s one specific machine required to make it…it broke, and the owner doesn’t want to fix it, leaving Dave without any option to keep making it. 😰
Anyone know where to find some posole for Mother’s Day this Sunday preferably around the Montebello or Long Beach area.
Thanks.
Vegan Soul Food
Anyone know where I can get some vegan soul food in the OC/ LA area? Never had it before but it looks so good.
