Staying near La Jolla this summer, what are 2 or 3 must go nicer restaurants worth driving for?

I’m planning a week in San Diego this summer with my wife and we’ll be staying near La Jolla, but we don’t mind driving anywhere if it’s worth it.

Looking for a couple of nicer spots (not super formal, just memorable, great food, good vibe, maybe a view), ideally with good vegetarian options.

Open to anything. Just trying to avoid the overly hyped places and pick a few that are actually worth it.

Would really appreciate a few strong recommendations.

Formosa Cafe was cited for pests in Nov. They called the health department back themselves in Dec, and got cited for pests again going from a B to a C

Two back-to-back "no insects, rodents, birds or animals present" violations, MAJOR severity, 11 points each. The December visit was flagged "Owner Initiated Inspection," meaning Formosa requested it, presumably to clear their B grade.

They came out with a 76 and a C instead.

Previous 9 inspections (2023 → early 2025): all A grades. Scores of 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 99. Trend is very recent.

Edit: this is the one in Hollywood.
