Ida

Despite having an ID3 for 9 months, I have never used IDA, because I was happy I didn’t need it, but mostly because I didn’t know what it could do.

Do people use it, and what for ?

Seeking Advice

Hi All,

Did anyone experience any problems with their indicator light (front LED light)? It seems that our one is almost gone. Only visible at night but not strong at all. Any advice on this? Is this salvageable? Or any third-party item?

We also have a problem with our rain sensor and charging door being stuck every now and then. Not sure if all these things are something to do with the electrical board or just unlucky.

I have a 2023 ID.3 in Norway and I’m trying to understand how this works for others.

My car physically has features like intelligent lights (Light Assist) and dual-zone climate installed. I can see them directly in the system and activate them, but only through a monthly subscription.

For me, this is hard to understand. I bought a car that already has this equipment, yet I can’t use it normally without additional payments.

From a customer perspective, it feels like the hardware is in the car, but access to it is locked behind a paywall.

Honestly, this approach doesn’t feel right to me and may negatively affect how customers perceive the brand.

Is it the same in your country and model year, or do you have different access to these features?

My key didn't work today...

This morning I pressed the button on the fob to unlock my car. Nothing happened. Pressed it a few more times, still nothing. Took the manual key out of the fob, tried that... Nope! Very strange.

Went back to get the spare key. Tried both the button and the manual key. Nothing. Oh dear, I'm going to be late for work...!

Went back again to find the spare batteries. Opened the original fob cover, changed the battery, closed the fob, went back to the car.

Took a deep breath and pressed the button... Robert's your dad's brother, it worked! Bit peculiar that both manual keys didn't work though...

That is all. Have a good day.

P.S. I wasn't late for work. Phew!

Charging flap won't open.

I got my ID3 back yesterday. It was away for a few months with a battery issue. This is the second time. The first time took over 7 months.

The car had been charged to 50% so enough to do a few errands before going home. I was too tired to charge last night but attempted to this morning.

The charging flap won't open. I've been opening and closing the car. Going inside the car and locking it and attempting unsuccessfully to get out without using the key fob (this seems dangerous if I park somewhere for an errand whilst passengers are in). I have also tried using the manual release inside the boot but even pulling with enough force to cause significant pain to my fingers does not open it.

I'm waiting on a mechanic now. I have access to a granny charger and will be here for hours 'if' the mechanic can get it to open.

Terrible Audio System

I drive an ID.3 1st Plus, and the audio system with only two front speakers is terrible. I’ve already read that retrofitting the rear speakers is extremely complicated. Is there any other solution? (Wireless maybe?)

So yesterday bought this 88k mile id3. Had a long drive back from the garage I bought it from and it was a nice experience.

Couldn't find out what software it was on till I got home and was able to sign in to the car it's on 3.2.

Only realised it didn't have the locking wheel nut key in the boot when I got back and no puncture kit.

Car was £10395 from v12 sports and classics, the guys were OK to deal with had the usual hard sell for warranty and other additions. I did go for the warranty only.

There are a few small chips on the paint but pretty good overall. Happy with the purchase.

Low energy consumption

I often drive from Brussel to Luxemburg and the distance is no issue if I follow the speed limit.

Today I wanted to test what happened if I drove fully with cruise control, here is the result.

I’m usually around 18-20kwh/100km, because I drive it like a normal car.
This time I was surprised that it was low. 15.6 kwh/100km

Rear wheel with center bolt, how do I open it?

I finally had time to switch to summer tires, but surprised to see a bolt in the center of the wheel. And I only realised this after I changed the front wheels, which don't have such bolt in the center, only the regular 5.

The biggest hole on my lug wrench is 32, and it doesn't fit. And this doesn't look hexagonal either. Anyone knows how can I open this? What's the tool name, and which size do I need?

I’m writing as a 3-year owner of a Volkswagen ID.3—and as a customer whose frustration has reached its limit.

Your “function on demand” strategy feels fundamentally wrong. You sell a car with hardware already installed—features like dual-zone climate control or intelligent lighting—and then place them behind a paywall. From a customer perspective, this looks like charging twice for the same product.

This is not about the price. I have not purchased any subscription and I never will—even if it costs €1. This is about principle. Once I buy a car, I expect to use what is physically there.

On top of that, there is Volkswagen Connect.
To access basic remote functions like climate control or charging management, I am expected to pay around €170 per year or about €300 for two years. For something that is already built into the car. That is very hard to justify.

At the time of purchase, the dealer did not clearly inform me that these features would require paid subscriptions. Yes, I signed the contract—but it was in Norwegian, and I am a Polish worker living in Norway with limited language proficiency. Important information like this should be clearly explained, not hidden in documentation.

I chose Volkswagen deliberately. I wanted to support a European brand. Instead, I feel like the product is intentionally limited after purchase to create additional revenue streams.

This is my first and last Volkswagen. I already do not recommend this brand, and I will not recommend it to anyone in the future. Several people I know were seriously considering buying an ID.3—but after I explained how this system works, they chose other brands.

You are not just “risking” customers like me—you have already lost me.
And when a customer is satisfied with a car, they come back. I won’t.

From my perspective, Volkswagen is not just making a questionable decision—it is actively undermining its own future.

It feels like Volkswagen is building the very structure that will ultimately bring its own brand down—prioritizing short-term monetization over long-term trust.

This is not just about features—it’s about trust. And that trust is already gone.

The choice is simple: I’m done with Volkswagen.

Hello,

First, sorry if my english isn't perfect, I'm not a natural.

So I have an appointment in June for the A/C and the VW dealership told me that they will update the infotainment system too. I asked them that everything is going fine and that I don't want to update. I'm on 3.2 on a 2021 Pro Business and it's functioning very well. They told me they would be fined by VW if they don't update and they don't have the choice.

So, am I really forced to say yes ?

Sorry if this kind of question was already asked.

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a used ID.3 for the wife. I've recently found a high mileage (122,000 miles) 2020 1st edition for £7500. I'm new to VW ev's so just wanted user views on battery degradation and general quirks of the model? Would it be a good buy at a discounted rate or should I pass? It's received 4 main dealer services in it's lifetime with the last one 7 months ago. UK based.

Infotainment switching off

I have a 2020 low mileage id.3 that I bought just a few months ago. It has been a lovely car to drive. It behaves very strangely today with the infotainment screen going into the clock mode, Bluetooth music stops playing. A couple of times it rebooted while driving - showed the VW logo etc.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I'm planning to order id.3 neo with 58 kWh LFP battery. I'm planning to keep the car for a long time. I'm doing a few rides to work a week (~100km in one direction), and can charge there.

I'm not planning extra long winter trips, but might go to mountains time to time.

Do I need to take heat pump?

Tips for cooling the backseat area?

Car's been checked, no problem with A/C but I can't seem to cool the backseat area without me freezing. My family was literally sweating while I had the A/C on and being in the driver's seat I feel it fully.

I have my ID.3 from to 2 weeks and I was packing up the things I had in my old car and I remembered that I do not like to see the charging cable landed on the floor. the tape of leds will also stay. I just need to improve the connection.

I was on my way home from Windermere to Manchester and I tried to top up in an EV charging station in Rivington, but I couldn't drive the charging point displayed this message. I talked to support and they had no idea what was this message about.

This is the first time I have had this issue, I have charged in Tesla and Instavolt without issues. I've Google this and got nowhere.

Luckily I got enough juice to get home, I tried my home charger and it worked.

Anyone has had a similar problem?

Hi guys.

Recently bought an used id3 from 2021. I’m having issues with the WeConnect application. I want to pair it with the app, however it is stuck on this loading screen.

I’m running on 3.7 software. Car does have valid 4G connection. I made a restart and factory reset. Toggled on and off the connection settings, tried to used my mobile phone as hotspot. However none of them worked.

Does somebody have any suggestions how to solve this? Or should I get a service appointment…
