My Taos saved my life.

I had a medical emergency two weeks ago while driving and ended up coming back to awareness as my brake assist went off. I only had enough time to slam on the brakes before I plowed into the car in front of me, which hit two more cars. I (and everyone else) walked away from the scene unscathed initially. I was hospitalized for a couple of hematomas and some arterial bleeding in my chest from how hard I hit the seatbelt, but that’s it. My only injuries are from the force I hit the seatbelt with.

Doctors, first responders, and insurance all believe that my car’s safety features likely saved my life and reduced injuries to the other drivers/passengers/vehicles in front of me. I only needed a week off work before returning to my very active job as a preschool teacher. My Taos was totaled but I refused to get any other car than a Taos and I managed to get the same year, make, and model used in blue for a great deal and only a slightly higher payment.

I’ll forever love my grey Taos. Thank you for saving my life.

Does anyone actually like their Taos?

I’ve been seeing people complain about their Taos. I recently got a 2022 Taos SEL🥴 and I’ve seen numerous complaints about them. Does anyone actually like theirs? I named mine, and I even put my own cut flowers on my sunroof, it was worth the effort and hours it took to complete it. This is with the shade, and I absolutely love it. I haven’t had mine long enough to make an opinion but as of now, I love her. The DSG kinda irritates me, but I’m getting used to it.

I’d like to report a crime Nearly $200 for a bumper cover

I have to use my Taos for work. This often requires me to carry a large cargo tote that weighs about 80 pounds. The weight isn’t so much the issue, but it’s very long, and difficult to get in and out solo. However, I often have to put it in by myself and take it out by myself. Anyway, this can cause scratches on my bumper. My old vehicle was so torn up in this area because of this tote. So I thought hey I’ll get a bumper cover. Well to buy and have it installed at the dealer cost me $190 US. This seems kind of ridiculous for something so small. I believe 150 of that was the part and 40 was the labor.

Well, I know I could’ve easily bought one off of Amazon or eBay, I don’t trust those online retailers when it comes to accessories for vehicles.

Regardless, I’m happy I got it, but stuff like this should come stand in the vehicle.

Considering Highline(SEL) Trim - Talk Me Into It

Hey there!

We have decided to go with a 2026 Taos as our first car together. We are a 40 year old couple with no kids. We wanted something with great fuel efficiency and in an affordable price range. I’m super great with my electronics so I imagine I’m going to be a great VW owner as I’m engaged with maintenance plans and upkeep.

We live in Alberta Canada and the winters are harsh. The summers can be crazy hot and drives through the mountains in summer are long.

We are thinking we want the Highline Trim because of the ventilated seats (she runs cold and I run warm) so we have some air flow on hot days and can heat them up in winter.

Any other great advantages of this top trim option we should know about? We’ve also never had a sunroof — any maintenance tips or suggestions on how to care for it?

Open to any and all encouraging opinions!

Talk me out of cancelling 2023 Taos purchase

Longtime VW driver. Took my 2019 sportwagen in to the dealer to see what was wrong with my infotainment system and turns out I need a whole new system, quoted at $3200. With this and a slew of other issues to fix I looked around the lot for a used upgrade. Drove a low mileage 2023 Taos highline and found it similar to the sportwagen, which I liked. Lots of back seat legroom which we need with a car seat in the back, decent fuel economy, in my price range. So I signed the contract (but they didn’t make me pay a deposit, odd?). Didn’t put a whole lot of thought into it (out of my character tbh) as I have always had relatively good luck with VW.

Now I’m home, it’s nighttime, I’m reading Reddit posts and spiralling that I have just bought the most unreliable subcompact suv on the market. So please: should I call the dealer in the morning and politely ask to back out of the deal, or is this a solid car for a small family driving 15000km a year on mostly country roads? Appreciate your help!

Getting sick of VW

I have a 2022 Taos with about 43k miles on it. I bought it used when it had around 12k miles. Since then, I’ve had to bring it into the dealership about five times for different issues, all of which were covered under warranty.

The most recent visit was for an EVAP system issue, and they replaced the carbon canister. While it was there, they also fixed a loose rear spoiler and were supposed to repair the rear window sprayer, which had been leaking (something I had already reported during a previous visit). I also mentioned a rattling noise when turning at low speeds, but they keep saying they can’t find anything wrong. They ended up keeping my car for about three weeks.

When I got the car back, I noticed a noise in the trunk when opening and closing it—like a loose screw or nut rolling around inside the door. I didn’t push the issue at the time, but a couple of months later the check engine light came on again, related to the EVAP system.

By then, the car was out of warranty. I brought it back in and raised all the issues again: the check engine light (related to the previous repair), the loose hardware in the trunk, and the rattling noise when turning. Once again, they said they couldn’t find anything wrong with the rattling or the trunk. They replaced a pressure sensor, which cleared the EVAP code.

Now, about a week later, the check engine light is back on—another EVAP code.

So much for German engineering.

Volkswagen Taos 2022 Low coolant - is it the head gasket issue?

I was totally unaware of the head gasket issue. I live in Vegas and I thought that filling up on coolant annually is normal. I'm at 50k miles with zero oil issues (color looks good) and I've had zero performance issues.

Mileage

I’ve never understood how it calculates the fuel range. I’ve gotten mid range gas to the ethanol-free premium and I always get different numbers. Is it based on the fuel quality or octane rating, or the quantity of fuel you put in? I got gas a few days ago at Costco and it pushed it up to 420mi range where it’s usually around 365-385mi.

Anyone have any recommendations for how to stop the beeping during an automatic carwash?

My sensors think the car is being attacked/too close to the approaching object during an automatic car wash and will incessantly beep and give me the warning sound. It’s the only annoying part of having my car (25 SE). If anyone has any recommendations or tricks to help it not screech like it’s meeting its impending demise every time it gets cleaned (other than a hand wash) that would be great.

If not, that’s okay too, thanks for letting me vent.

A/c issues?

Just wondering if anyone else has had A/C issues with their Taos?

I have a 25 S and I’ve owned it for about 11 months. A few months ago I noticed that the air coming out of my a/c would randomly start feeling humid and or hot out of nowhere and then it will go back to being cold after a few minutes. I’ve recently put a thermometer in one of my vents and it usually gets up to about 60 degrees when it does it and I know that at the lowest setting that it’s supposed to blow around 40 degrees.

I took it to the dealership and they kept it for a day and said that everything was running like how it was supposed to, but surely this isn’t normal? It didn’t do this all last summer when I first bought it.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar? Thanks!

Issue with Autostart- anyone else?

On the way home from the vet on the weekend, my cat was getting sick in his carrier on the back seat. At a red light, I was the first car at the light… my car turned off (as it does at red lights)… and I took the opportunity to check on my cat- I undid my seatbelt and leaned into the back seat to open the cat carrier…

When the light changed to green, I faced forward again and buckled up and engaged my gas pedal…. my car restarted- but inexplicably would NOT drive.

Everyone was honking. The light turned red. Everyone missed the light. It was like that for 5 or 6 lights. I was panicking. I was calling roadside assistance when some young man rapped on my window… when I opened the window he asked me what was wrong and I explained and then I pressed my pedal to show him… and of course then my car lurched forward. 🤦🏻‍♀️ extremely embarrassing and I am paranoid it is going to randomly happen again.

Does anyone know why this happened and how I can prevent it?

I Went Gray/Black Trim SE

Thank you to everyone who posted to help me choose. I ultimately really wanted the black trim and gray. I would have done the SEL but I hated the blue seats. I guess I don’t have ambient lights which is probably fine since I don’t do a lot of night driving. I am 435 mines in and am getting used to automatic transmission now, and actually am happier being stuck in traffic not shifting and clutching all the time 🩶🩵🖤

Subaru vs VW - Northern BC driving

Hi all! I’m (reluctantly) accepting the fact I need to upgrade my 2018 Corolla iM (precursor to the Corolla Hatchback). I live in Northern BC, Canada and need something that can handle the winters - 2WD isn’t it. We do live in a city, but can get a lot of snow.

We are expecting our first (and only) baby and have a large dog. Our other vehicle is a RAV-4. Initially I was hoping to stay smaller than the RAV-4, but I’m realizing that I need to think about things like strollers and car seats, which may warrant the larger options.

I went out test driving today with the 2026 vehicles I had shortlisted and would be happy with any option. I loved the Forester and how it drove, but don’t love the vertical screen. Tiguan felt luxe, but larger than I’m used to (gorgeous though). Taos didn’t feel as smooth as the Tiguan, but the high line trim helped it feel more luxe. I just worry about cargo space for a stroller (looking at Thule Urban Glide 3).

I'm being offered a Subaru Forester Sport at 3.99% for $311 biweekly, VW Tiguan Comfortline at 2.99% for $277 biweekly, and VW Taos Highline at 0% for $244 biweekly

Also important to note - I would be receiving 4 years of service covered by VW - none from Subaru.

Would love to hear some insight from people who know more or have experience with the vehicles! Thank you 🚗

Anyone notice any brake issues after they have gotten them fixed??

I have a Volkswagen Taos 2024, I have only had the car for a year and 8 months and the brakes were ground down to a pulp. I did some digging online and found out this model of car has brake issues. I remember getting a letter in the mail saying that they were going to extend the warranty on the brakes and I was super excited about that. However, I do remember noticing the first couple of months that I had the car. The brakes were really squeaky. I got them checked out and they said they were fine. I'm wanting to know if anyone who has gotten their brakes fixed super early and to have in the car if that is still an issue? Did you have to change them within 2 years? Again, I am considering trading my car in to get a different make.

2023 Taos S Seatbelt Alert

My car thinks I have a passenger if I put my purse or a bag light bag (I’m talking less than 5 lbs). I have to keep the seatbelt plugged in when I don’t have anyone in the seat.
