hiiii guys, my friend committed to UT Austin and accepted the Terry Scholarship and was fully planning on attending this fall, but they just got off the waitlist at an Ivy League school.
Are they allowed to withdraw from UT/Terry after already accepting everything? Do people do this often? Is it considered a huge no-no or against some kind of contract?
We’re just confused high school seniors trying to understand how binding Terry actually is 😭 any advice or past experiences would help 🙏🙏🙏
I can’t believe it. Actually almost threw up in my car at the sight of it. But I don’t know what to do anymore.
Wondering why I still haven’t heard back?!
with transfer decisions coming out soon and additional waitlist applications being closed off, do we think that the waitlist is done fs since they have already let people in from almost every major ?
Here’s basically everything I have right now:
Academics : 7/426, 4.0 GPA, 2 AP's, associates degree through dual credit, 33 ACT
hi, i honestly just need to get this off my chest. ut austin was the application i spent the most time on, filling out all six supplementals including the optional and honors ones.
i applied for rhetoric and writing with a 750/800 english sat score, 680 math score. i have a 4.8 gpa weighted, 3.8 unweighted. i’ve taken 12 aps and received 5s with some 4s. i won first at the most prestigious color guard competition in the world, being the first color guard from texas to win 1st. i’m the officer of multiple clubs and cofounded a youth org with 1000+ followers. plus many other national awards. ive been accepted into northeastern, baylor (scholarship), trinity (scholarship), and university of houston with a full ride.
i applied to ut in october 2025 as an early action applicant, was deferred, and got rejected in february. i immediately applied for the waitlist + looked into this and discovered i was misclassified as an out of state resident, which greatly harmed my chances of getting in since ut reserves 75% of their freshman class for in-state residents. i moved from another state in the beginning of 2023, and my mom had been living in texas for around 5 years at that point.
ive had scattered communication between the admissions office and residency office between now and since i got rejected. the office either wont pick up calls even though it’s within office hours, leave me on hold for nearly an hour, or just straight up ignore my emails.
ut austin was the school i planned on going to, and to see this being so poorly handled makes me so disappointed and im not even sure if i want to transfer into ut anymore. i just feel so incredibly disrespected and i wish my luck turned out different
Really surprised the info dropped on a random Wednesday but I’m very grateful! Good luck to all my other waitlist warriors, keep hopes high!
Hi!! this is both out of delusion and curiosity, but does anyone else who got rejected or capped see on their RIS page their major classification and all other freshman information for fall 2026? I may be crazy but mine shows this and got last updated on 2/12/2026 and was wondering why that is even after may 1st, if this is some sort of sign regarding the waitlist, or some mistake on their end. Thank you!
broooooo one of my friends & roomates for next year is a cap student but her gpa is a 3.1 and the minimum to transfer is 3.2 … wtf do we do😂
im currently cramming for the AP Psych exam and i wanted to know if i can get the credit to avoid taking the college course at UT Austin. i never took the class for AP Psych but i signed up for the exam, so i just want to know if it's really worth it to take the exam and get a 4 or 5.
I applied to Mccombs and got CAPPED. However i’m set on going to UT and graduating with a degree from Mccombs or in Economics so I’d really like some insight on whether CAP or ACC is a better option for me to transfer into my intended major. I’ve taken AP Calc BC and AP Econ in high school which are the pre reqs to apply to mccombs so I’m confident i can do well in those classes on either campus I go to. But it’d be great to get some opinions on which one would benefit my transfer application. I’m from the Dallas area and would be doing CAP at UT Arlington.
Hey guys so I got capped for mech e and one of my friends got off waitlist for informatics even with a worse gpa, ecs, and sat than me so if I fill the waitlist application for informatics Is there a chance of me getting in with my mech e ecs and my ecs were like research under ut prof and mit prof of mech e and I presented at MIT URTC conference
I’m specifically asking because I just got my final grades from spring of this semester and they are slightly worse than my fall semester grades. If AP credits that have already been accepted for credit at my current university (A&M) do count, then I have well over 24 transferable credit hours, so I believe I wouldn’t need to send my spring semester grades by the June 1st deadline. If those credits don’t count because they don’t have grades attached to them, then I would need to send them which I think could slightly harm my chances. I can’t find anything online that talks about this specific thing, thanks for any input!
Edit: All of my accepted AP credits say “TCR” next to them on my transcript.
I recently got off the waitlist for UC Berkeley for the data science major, but I’m already committed as an incoming freshman at UT Austin for the SDS major. I don’t want to work/create my own startups, and I’m not very big on the competitive and workaholic culture that comes with tech/stem in California schools. My end goal is working in a stable company (preferably MAANG) and have heard many good things about UT having a good, if not better, pipelines for those companies. I am also going to try to leverage this acceptance to double major or minor in MIS from the McCombs school of business at UT to pad my resume.
Thoughts/Recommendations?
Hi everyone,
I applied as a transfer student for Fall 2026 and was wondering if anyone has heard anything yet or knows when UT Austin usually releases transfer decisions.
Are decisions released all at once or in waves? Also, if you already got a transfer student decision, what was your timeline?
Thanks and good luck to everyone waiting.
Hey so i dont usually post stuff in here but I really need the perspectives of lots of different people that know what they’re doing because everyone I ask about this tells me something different.
Im currently a sophomore (school ends may 22nd) and I AM FUCKED. The only highschool classes ive taken are all level classes. Freshman me did not know what was going on and it was only until September of last year that I realized how cooked I am. This started because I become super interested in electrical engineering, and I was instantly intrigued, however it was only after watching like 100 Ali Alqaraghuli (the goat) videos and becoming mega interested in EE did I realized that you need to have taken honors and APs. I live in texas which means I really want to go to UT austin but going there for EE Is extremely difficult.
The main issue:
\- the on level math course for my school is geometry sophomore year (contrary to some other schools ive seen where alg 2 is sophomore, although alot of kids also have alg 2 as sophomores because they got a level ahead of the rest in some way at my school)
This means I cannot take AP physics my junior year which is super important for EE
So I have questions:
Does anyone know of a way I could take algebra 2 over the summer?
\- I asked my counselor and she said that our summer school doesnt offer it so is there a niche way I could take it so that I could possibly take calculus my senior year?
Should I start studying for the sat right now?
\- Ive asked lots of my peers and many told me to only start 3 months before but i feel like if I start earlier I could a get a above average score.
Should I change my junior year schedule?
\- Im taking all honors, APUSH and DC english
Electives are band robotics and honors computer science (I was gonna do ap but you have to take a placement test that I was too late to take)
Is there really a chance for me to get into ut for EE ?
Im also doing a big college project with my friends where we’re developing a drone that can monitor forests
IF YOU GUYS HAVE ANY REALLY HELPFULL INFORMATION FOR ME OR QUESTIONS LET ME KNOW PLEASE I NEED THIS.
I got off the waitlist but I don't see the accept offer admission, I only see apply for housing and links below. Does that still mean I got it cuz i see the congrats banner and everything.
Hey everyone! UT Austin has been my dream school forever. I know my stats are a reach for non-auto, but I’ve had a major upward trend and want to know how to maximize my holistic review this fall.
Rank: 159/492 (from freshman & sophomore yr)
GPA: 3.3 UW / 4.0 W (Freshman year was a wash, but it's been straight A's/B+’s since)
SAT: 1110 (Retaking this weekend, grinding for 1250+)
Coursework: AP World, AP Spanish, AP Lang, AP Psych, APUSH, Senior year: AP lit Dual Enrollment (Gov/Econ, Stats, Public Speaking).
My freshman year was rough due to some personal stuff and bullying, which made my GPA flop. Since then, I've had a huge upgrades and got involved in StuCo, NHS, Student Visionary for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society and Mock Trial. I also raised over $1k for cancer research. I really want to major in International Relations. My main "hook" is my passion for foreign cultures and building community bridges, basically turning my experience with isolation into a career helping people feel like they belong.
Here’s a few questions I had:
Does UT actually care about an "upward trend" if the freshman year was bad?
How do I make my ECs (like the fundraising and StuCo) stand out so I don't just look like every other applicant?
I'm retaking the SAT this weekend (currently at an 1110, aiming for 1200+ Any honest advice is appreciated, Hook ‘em!🤘
I’m currently a freshman at UT Dallas, though I’m classified as a sophomore by credit. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA and gained research lab experience during my first year. What are my chances of successfully transferring?
