Nearly great but there’s something missing…

What’s a ‘nearly great’ U2 song that’s hobbled by a clunky lyric? ‘Kite’ has always been a favorite of mine but I can never get past the awkward ‘new media’ line at the end.

How Bad Were They Slummin Popmart Tour

I remember the video of the empty stadiums in FL and there is the Cologne, Germany video where it looks like the massive stage was on the Kimmel back lot

Were they traveling in vans and doubling up in Motel 6 to eke out a profit or were they saying fuggit we don't need any money anyway we're U2

Is anyone else still repeatedly playing “Easter Lily?”

Five weeks after the release of Easter Lily, I’m still playing it at least once a day but usually two or three times daily.

I’m not the least bit tired of it, nor feeling even a creeping hint of boredom or over-familiarity. Each song has a complexity, mystery, nuance, directness, energy, fullness, and power that the truly awesome U2 albums have, which, as many on this platform have written, has not happened in quite some time (choose your album.)

After SOE and SOS (that one truly was a call for help) and the Sphere residency that screamed legacy rock, I was worried for my guys. For the first time ever, I secretly dreaded another album. Listening to SOE after its release, I especially couldn’t help but wonder if they were overlooking the necessity of playing to their ages and their accumulated wisdom. They have now done that and more with the slightly flawed but still remarkable Days of Ash and a perfect Easter Lily.

Here’s hoping we have another surprise EP on Thursday, the Feast of the Ascension and here’s confidently expecting a banger of an album this fall.

Why Do So Many People Dislike Bono?

Yesterday there were a lot of posts about Bono (for his birthday) and they had a lot of comments by people who hated him. Some of it was the iTunes stuff, but loads were just talking about how much they dislike him. Am I missing something or are people just being mad for no reason?

U2 Has Begun Filming Something in Mexico City

According to the form that got sent out, U2 are filming something right now from 2pm-8pm in Mexico City. I assume that it's for a music video for the yet-to-be-announced album, but that is just speculation. Were any of you able to go?

I don't know what to think. - Street of Dreams.

I can't seem to form an opinion on the latest track - i mean from the 30 seconds we got, it feels quite uninspired. Stuff like 'be free', and 'be yourself'. ugh, i wish we were past that stuff. American Obituary was a step in the right direction, it had that 'fuck off' sound Bono said he wanted. It just pains me to think U2 songs are on the road of "wise messages to the youth who will inherit the world". I don't want that. They are their own band and they need to remember it. In addition to this, before, Bono had a new look nearly every album, but now, he has stuck with the same look for 10 years (2016). All this suggests to me that they are uninspired to find anything new. I really don't want this.

But I know the band have a great ear for what is a hit and what isn't, and this... As a SINGLE? Even "Get on your boots had more grit than this" - fellow U2 fan. They literally made stuff like 'scars' and 'resurrection song' not that long ago. Help me form an opinion.

Do you think it's just a bad single choice?

Or is it a clue to a whole album having this sound?

No EP #3?

With the sneak peak of “Street of Dreams” and word that it will be released as the first single from the new album on June 12th…this makes me think we’re not getting that third EP. Any thoughts?

On Which Album Does Bono Give His Best Vocal Performance??

Since it's Bono's birthday, I was pondering this a little earlier.

If you listen to U2's earliest demos and live recordings, there is no disputing the man has come a long, long way. If you listen to, say, the 1978 demo of Twilight, his voice is totally unrecognizable from the iconic voice that fans, neutrals and haters alike have become familiar with. He went from looking for a voice to, at his peak, arguably one of the most distinct and powerful voices in music.

It's nothing short of a fascinating progression. By the time they went into the studio to record Boy, Bono clearly hasn't found his footing yet and he gets by with his wailing - although I have always been impressed with some of his insightful and introspective lyrics on the album. With October, even with a perceived lack of stronger material, Bono sounds more confident and clear from a vocal standpoint. On WAR, he takes a big, bounding step forward. He now has the voice to lead a great album and a great band.

When I listen to The Unforgettable Fire, I am always struck by how strong Bono's voice is. Is it his best vocal performance? I don't know. But it feels like his voice is at his strongest here. Of course, many see The Joshua Tree and Rattle & Hum era as his peak vocals. Can't really argue with that: his vocals were a force of nature, and Bono's maturation as a songwriter meant the lyrics associated with those vocals heightened the impact of his voice. Maximum expression.

Then, in the 90s, the band began painting with a whole new canvas, and Bono took the opportunity to wisely expand and update his repertoire. He had a whole new bag of tricks and tones to match the creativity of the music. If his voice was no longer at its strongest, Bono was finding new ways to express emotions in deeper and murky hues, along with a falsetto that reached for the stars.

I could go on, but this post is getting pretty lengthy. So, what do you think? Which album has Bono giving his vocal performance? No wrong answers.

U2 “Street Of Dreams” Lyrics

'God hear me shout
Lend your ear to my prayer
When I'm far from anywhere
Down to my last breath of air

God hear me shout
Lend your ear to my prayer
When I'm far from anywhere
Down to my last breath of air

La calle, calle de los sueños
All the doors are open on the street of dreams
La Calle, calle de los sueños
Broken are the chosen on the street of dreams

Be here
Be free
Be yourself
And then free me
Your fate gonna fight it
Your trust won't be denied it
This bus gonna ride it to the street of dreams

La calle, calle de los sueños
Justice an obsession on the street of dreams
La Calle, calle de los sueños
Love in a procession down the street of dreams

Break out
Break through
Break in

Your dream needs you
Your life
gonna find you
Your fear
not gonna blind you
Random angels
gonna guide you
To the street of dreams

Calle, calle de los sueños
All the doors are open on the street of dreams
La Calle, calle de los sueños
Broken are the chosen on the street of dreams

Don't you give up on your dream for the many not just the few
Don't you give up and your dreams won't give up on you

La calle, calle de los sueños
Justice an obsession on the street of dreams
La Calle, calle de los sueños
Love in a procession down the street of dreams
Broken are the chosen on the street of dreams

God hear me shout and you'll heed to my prayer'

Do We Know Who's Producing the New Album?

I remember hearing people say Eno was, but I'm not sure if that was actually happening or just what people wanted to happen. Anyone know? Jacknife Lee produced the EPs. Did he do it because he's also doing the album? Or did he do it because someone else was producing the album?
