Is anyone else still repeatedly playing “Easter Lily?”

Five weeks after the release of Easter Lily, I’m still playing it at least once a day but usually two or three times daily.

I’m not the least bit tired of it, nor feeling even a creeping hint of boredom or over-familiarity. Each song has a complexity, mystery, nuance, directness, energy, fullness, and power that the truly awesome U2 albums have, which, as many on this platform have written, has not happened in quite some time (choose your album.)

After SOE and SOS (that one truly was a call for help) and the Sphere residency that screamed legacy rock, I was worried for my guys. For the first time ever, I secretly dreaded another album. Listening to SOE after its release, I especially couldn’t help but wonder if they were overlooking the necessity of playing to their ages and their accumulated wisdom. They have now done that and more with the slightly flawed but still remarkable Days of Ash and a perfect Easter Lily.

Here’s hoping we have another surprise EP on Thursday, the Feast of the Ascension and here’s confidently expecting a banger of an album this fall.
