Got this rosehair 3 days ago and I was wondering about opinions on how old y'all think it is
(Edit): thank you to those who offered their knowledge! Excited to start this journey and to those worried about my experience do not worry this is my partners tarantula and I want to learn as much as I can
Hi everyone, I have a 12x12x12 enclosure for my Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens ( GGB)
When can I move him or her into it? What size will that not be too large for him or her?
( don’t know gender, hasn’t molted yet)
The enclosure I have them In now is probably 8 or 9 inches for scale.
Hi, title self explanatory, i found the little thing on the hot sidewalk while coming back home and i just couldn't let it there to be accidentally stomped on by someone else, i brought it home in a little cup and made a little terrarium for it
Everyone calls it "pollito" but the hell is that?? When i look up in google it says "Grammostola rosea" and im absolutely flabbergasted when it says "it has protection because of their habitat and illegal trafficking" Am i gonna go to jail if i tell anyone?
And second point which is more important, what should i feed it? Im asking gemini for tips but i feel like ovbiously human advice are more helpful. "feed it insects smaller than it, offer every couple of days, never offer when its shedding" (WHERE CAN I GET THAT? I LIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY)
"Doesn't really like sun, put a small tap of water on a corner so it can drink, dont freak out if its now moving because they dont need to burn energy" (Does it actively hate sun? Then how does it get atleast slightly warm if you just told me they don't generate their own heat??)
And maybe the soil, or how to properly update the terrarium would be great, to avoid night cold from freezing it i have a heater at home that i use at night and put thick pants that have been slightly warm before hand under the terrarium so the dirt isnt cold.
They like to stand on me, they hate air, they hate the dirt thats cold and sometimes tarantula shakes and i dont know if i should be concerned
I do not know when it has last eaten since i picked it yesterday
Thanks for reading
edit 1: Im gonna release it tomorrow in a safe spot, i already have pets to take care for please do not worry about me keeping it! tarantulas are beautiful creatures but i dont have the experience (or sanity) to own one.
Looking at picking up a juvenile B Smithi but am not familiar with their coloring early on. This look about right?
i feel like i’m going to see this in my dreams.
So, I have a Mexican Red Knee who keeps trying to get out of her enclosure. I will add a video for reference. I thought maybe it was her enclosure size, so I moved her into an 18×18×12. Didn't help. Here's the breakdown. She is around 7 years old. I got her as a juvenile. She has never made a carpet by her burrow. It's been quite a while since her last shed, though I'm not certain of the exact time.
Substrate: organic compost with a small amount of organic potting soil. Around 5 inches in the back by her hide. In the 7 or so years I've had her, she's been fine with it.
Cork bark hides. A pathos in a small glass vile. A waterdish that she has used for many years. An extra cork hide she used to like to sit on. And one black leaf stem that has some of her webbing on it.
Nothing I have added or subtracted matters in the least. She still wants out. It started about 4 months ago and I'm at my wits end. I've brought her to my little mom n pop store here to see if their spider guru could help to no avail. We are all stumped. She does this behavior all day, every day until bedtime. I feel really bad for her. Is their a way she could be a he and wandering, and we just can't see his tibial hooks? Any advice from all you spooder lovers out there would be soo appreciated!
My Brazilian salmon pink birdeater spiderling came out of her burrow for the first time since I got her!! Shes gotten so pretty! What do you guys think, is she looking healthy and stuff?
Does this look like premolt to you guys ? Most of its behaviour matches the premolt pattern, it moves less, webbed more and stays mostly in one corner, 2 weeks ago it refused the prey. Last time it ate was on the 15th of last month. I see a shiny dark patch on the abdomen but maybe Im just seeing things. This would be its first molt in my care. The first picture is how it looks right now, the other is from a week ago. Its a juvenile Grammastola pulchripes. Thanks for the answers in advance!
So yesterday I went to repticon and got some slings but I can not for the life of me remember what the name of this one is. It's labeled LD any ideas?
Hi! Getting a G. Pulchra soon as my first, guaranteed to be atleast 1.5in. What should I know going into this? I need to learn more, I know that. Here’s what i’ve been told from coworkers who have many T’s- cricket once weekly, somewhat dry enclosure? not sure exactly how dry or moist tho. That’s pretty much all I know😬 I do know about new world’s kicking hairs when threatened, so I know a slight bit? But need more details on daily life with one.
Questions- How do I know when my future T is getting ready to molt? Do anything extra around this time?
How often do you check on them when burrowed?
Do you tong feed?
Please inform me of anything else I need to know, kindly, as i’m simply trying to learn. I have googled, but i’d rather hear from people who own them and know them. Thank you:)
I just got this little sling today. I was told it was a Lasiodora parahybana, and I'm hoping it is.
What are some things you wish you knew before getting one?
I've been keeping all sorts of arachnids for almost 2 decades, so I'm not afraid of poor husbandry.
Completely in love with my P. Metallica! 🤘
How the heck do you get good pics tho? 😭
