Taylor Swift's recent streetstyle aesthetic

Taylor’s new streetstyle outfits all fall under an interesting aesthetic. Black and white colors with silk, satin and lace elements. Darker hair and bare heeled sandals also characterize most of these. Do you think this pattern could foreshadow the next era?

What’s a Taylor Swift song that you feel doesn’t get as much love as it should?

I LOVE the song it’s time to go and I rarely see it talked about, and it’s usually on the bottom of evermore rankings. I went through a friend breakup and suddenly it hit like crazy. It’s a very mellow song so not her most exciting, but I find it really beautiful. Feels super underrated and usually overlooked for right where you left me (also a great song!)

What’s your favorite “underloved” song?

Taylor claims to be offline pretty much always (well she says she doesn’t have apps on her phone which could be true), but always takes opportunities to address online narratives about her, sometimes at the peak of popularity of the narratives. This reads as chronically online to me a little obsesed with “setting the record straight“… yet she’s claiming to be in her idgaf era. Here’s a breakdown of what i noticed her touch on in the NYT interview BUT I found her interview with Seth Myers (or the other late night interviewer im blanking on) particularly revealing. if you find this interesting and want me to break that down lmk, but this will be focused on her most recent interview.

this is a lot of text so this will be speech to text. sorry for any typos but I will go back to bold headings for a little razzle dazzle

Deja vu/ Cruel Summer credits & New Years Day

In the NYT interview, she kind of alludes to the idea that she and Jack together invented ”rant bridge” and spoke about it in a way that it’s unique to her.

“We established this thing that we love to do, and we call it the rant bridge," Swift said. "I could point to examples like 'Out of the Woods,' 'Is It Over Now?' 'Cruel Summer,' and oftentimes, we love these rant bridges where it's basically stream of consciousness, endless pouring out of emotion, intrusive thoughts blended with metaphor, with discussion, with shouting.”

“For example, Jack starts playing this piano part and it turns into this song called “New Year’s Day.” That piano part was just enough to springboard the entire song.”

Sharing this was strategic imo because it indirectly suggests that Oliv*a infringed on something unique to her songwriting style or something special she and Jack created together. doubling down with New Year’s Day that was also used by Oliv that Jack/taylor were credited for

then this gem to really drive it home:

”Oh, but you’re going to be so much better. It’s gonna be so — no, no, it’s gonna be cooler. You’re going to be so much better.” To offset the comparison.”

really subtle but 3 references to the same person shes had drama with makes ya think.

Critical reception of her work
since TLOS came out to pretty lukewarm reception, she’s doubled down a number of times saying she “doesn’t care”. Then the bot article came out suggesting her team did some level of research into the negative reception

“I loved the “Reputation” album. I was like: “You guys say what you want. I know what I did. I love it. Go with God, sorry.“

Shes seen in Miss Americana somberly saying (pun intended) “I need to make a better record“ once she found out it wasn’t nominated for major Grammy Categories. She wasn’t like “they’re wrong, this is great” or “I still love it anyway!”. She immediately said she needed to make a BETTER album. That’s not necessarily the self-assured mindset she’s suggesting she’s always had, especially on the heels of TLOS not so positive reception

She name-dropped Jack Antonoff (how the hell do you spell his name lol) a ton to address rumors of their falling out

Elizabeth Taylor

I saw that she was criticized in some circles for using Elizabeth Taylor’s name without adding anything notable about her life or impact in the song

her quote: “ I go on and on explaining to Travis why I love Elizabeth Taylor so much. She fought for artists’ rights. She was exploited in so many ways, and yet she kept her humanity. She kept her humor. She kept her passion for life. And I’m just going on and on.“

Joe Alwyn writing Folklore Rumors

this was confusing to me because she was talking about fans guessing the subject matters of her songs, as she’s trained us to do lol. but emphasis on who songs are ABOUT. then she says something so out of field that doesn’t have to do with who songs are ABOUT and instead who WROTE them

“Because I’m like, “That dude didn’t write the song, I did.” But that’s part of it.”

Using the opportunity to address that rumor was jarring because it didn’t fully make sense in context? and historically that’s not at ALL what Taylor Swift paternity testing has ever meant.. like ever

People suggesting that TLOS was so bad because she didn’t let Max Martin Cook

The audio recordings she sold as variants don’t particularly hep her here, but she addressed it. in the title track he sounds genuinely fearful and nervously giggles lmao
“I always apply the rule “may the best idea win.” I don’t care if it came from you or me — if it’s better, that’s what goes in the song.“

idk yall I found this interesting. real swifites from main, dont downvote me, i have a family to feed

I’ve been reflecting on Taylor’s recent New York Times interview where she admitted that the clue-seeking pocket of her fanbase can get 'weird' for her. It’s an interesting admission because she almost criticized fans for 'paternity testing' the music and trying to figure out who it’s about; but the reality is, she created this beast. Even the way she describes her fans in that interview felt like a significant disconnect; it was kinda sterile and distant, just saying 'there are loads of them now', which is such a contrast to how she used to talk about them like they were friends or family imo.

She’s been linking the songs to her personal life from day one. To be clear, I don't think she is completely at fault for how intense this has become. In 2009, she was a teenager putting secret messages in liner notes to identify specific men. At that age, there was no way to predict how social media would grow into this massive, uncontrollable force. But we’d be naive to think the current state of things isn't a direct result of her fueling those flames for decades. Between the secret notes in her liners and all the Easter eggs throughout her work, she has essentially been training her fans since day one to look for clues about her personal life.

She really went above and beyond to create this powerful parasocial fanbase. She didn't just write songs; she spent years making fans feel like they were her actual inner circle. Between the Secret Sessions (where she literally invited strangers into her homes to bake cookies) and her old social media presence where she’d Tay-lurk and comment on people's personal lives, she built a brand based on being everyone's best friend.

To then withdraw now is a bit strange, but I think she’s just had enough and is trying to distance herself. In my opinion, something’s got to give. I wouldn’t blame her if she decides to finally build a barrier. She’s 36 and most likely in a different stage of life, and it must be incredibly tiresome, for example, to have fans flooding her partner's Instagram page with comments about her ex or blaming him for why they thought an album was bad.

At the end of the day, she’s a real person. Between the tone of But Daddy I Love Him and her withdrawal from social media, it's clear there is a big withdrawal happening. It feels like she’s finally hitting a breaking point with the monster she created, even if her intentions were innocent at the start.

Do you think she’s actually going to pull back from the Easter eggs moving forward to regain some privacy, or is that brand too baked into her success to ever truly stop?
