Help sourcing oil leak

Help sourcing oil leak

Hey guys! I’m looking to get some help in sourcing this oil leak. I haven’t done and bought the dye yet (just changed the oil) but I noticed that this spot reappears after cleaning everything up. Could this be a loose oil pan leak or more indicative of a rear main seal? This particular vehicle doesn’t have a dizzy, so I don’t think it’s a dizzy o ring leak. Thoughts from the experts?

1986-1988 Parts Catalog

I was fortunate to have a gentleman sell me this parts catalog. It has an exploded view of every part on the Samurai, which is great, but it took the guess work out of figuring out what the correct stripes are supposed to be on my year model. I could find the information anywhere. Not definitely anyway.

Overnighter

My mini overlanding setup for my samurai. Have a proper roof rack arriving Monday. Milwaukee packout boxes are my favorite camping gear storage boxes. No tie downs required. The tent is a little overkill, saving to buy one a little more size appropriate. But I have this one, so I'm using it.

Lifted Ute questions

I’ve lifted my Ute with 2” springs and 2” shackles, the drag link now sits at a pretty good angle and I’m curious if you lot would be worried about it at all or if I should move on.

Sj70 restoration tips

G'day guys. I've got a sj70 that's been with me for about a year or 2, she's been used as the farm runabout and has done a great job doing that. We've recently bought an ATV and this car has since lost a few of her uses. I've been feeling terrible about leaving it rotting as it is, and since it's got such a clean frame and parts of the body, I'm hoping to restore it on a budget.

Rust is pretty bad under window frame corners, and on rollbar and vents. There are rust spots all along the bucket ridge. And there is bad rust along the back floor next to the tailflap, the mudguard interiors are all clean and floorpans and engine bay are good. Centre column is good too.

It runs really good but needs some rewiring, shifts good, transfer case is great, diffs and all running gear great, it's only got 200,000km so she's not far into life.

What do you think the course of action on the back of the tub is and the other bad spots?

I'm from Queensland Australia and she's lived outside for a while of her life, but the chassis is clean as.

Please see pics, thanks for the help.

Just Sold my Dads 87 JA

My father gave me his ‘87 JA in 2020 after realizing he probably wasn’t going to be able to enjoy it anymore.

It became a pain in my ass the moment we loaded it onto the trailer in southwest Virginia for the trip back to Maryland. But when I did have it running — which honestly wasn’t often enough — my boys absolutely loved it. And looking back, those rides together were probably exactly what my dad had hoped for when he handed me the keys.

My dad passed away in 2023, and after that I just couldn’t bring myself to work on it anymore. Maybe I lost interest. Maybe it was just too hard. Probably both.

Today I sold it. For a lot less than it was worth to me, but it deserved a chance to be driven and enjoyed again instead of sitting still because I couldn’t move forward with it.

After I signed over the title, I walked into the kitchen and completely broke down. My boys thought somebody had died. I honestly didn’t expect watching it get loaded onto another trailer and driven away to hit me that hard.

I really hope the new owners get it running right and make some great memories in it too.

RIP Dad.

It looks clean but has no receipts for the work done. Per the current owner it is a 1988 Tin Top Zuki. It’s got 5.38 axle gears front and rear, 6.5-1 gearing in the transfer case and a Suzuki Aerio 2.3L engine swap. Thoughts? I’m typically really against buying someone else’s project but this one seems well sorted and runs great. Thoughts?

Bar find

This is a long shot but I thought it’d be worth a chance.

I run a house clearance firm and we’re clearing a garage in east Manchester UK. There’s a samurai in there but unsure if an engine. Anyone want to have a look and make an offer. Any reasonable considered.

Pretty happy with the results. Owner picks it up tomorrow after I tweak some last minute things. I can't post a video, but the front 6 indicators are wired with a sequential modules in there, so they blink in center and cascade out. Came out awesome.

I tried the check engine switch under the keys and it didn't do anything.

What part is this?

Hi all!

I found a leak in this part. Does anyone know what it is? I think it might be the power steering mechanism because I continually need to top off the power steering fluid. I didn't see the part in the manual which makes me think it is. I had power steering put in later. The part is directly underneath the coolant reservoir. Thank you in advance!

3k carb bucking and stalling issue

I have an 88 suzuki samurai with a 3k carb installed on it that when under heavy load for a bit or an incline it starts backfiring and then stalls out or looses all its power. Not sure where to look with this thing whether its a fuel delivery issue or timing I have pretty much redone everything fuel related up in the engine bay but havent touched any of the fuel lines under the vehicle. I have noticed the filter does look empty and doesnt really fully fill up most of the time but clean gas does seem to come through and the filter isnt dirty. Just wanted to ask here thanks!

Hi everyone,

I have a Suzuki Samurai SJ413 Long body. The original G13 carburetor engine was getting tired, so I recently swapped it for a G13A with single-point injection (TBI) that I got for a good price.

I swapped everything over: the complete wiring harness, ECU, instrument cluster, ignition barrel (Neiman), and the fuel pump. All consumables are brand new.

The problem:

The engine starts instantly but cuts out within a second. It won’t hold an idle unless I constantly feather the throttle.

If I go wide open throttle (WOT), it stalls.

If I let go of the gas, it stalls.

What I’ve checked so far:

New throttle body gasket.

New pressure regulator

Vacuum lines checked (no leaks found).

The injector is definitely firing (I can see the fuel spray).

No "Check Engine" light or fault codes.

I tried adjusting the cold idle screw, but it makes no difference; it just chokes out the moment I let off the pedal.

The ECU is a Mitsubishi unit.

I’m a bit stuck here. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Here’s my 88. I’m the second owner. Was purchased back in 1992 for me by my Mom; many years before I could even (legally, lol) drive. Has factory AC. It’s mostly stock with the following exceptions, primarily from Myron at Zuks Offroad. I’m probably forgetting a few things though 🙂

- ZOR MY-Side 2 Harley CV carb / intake
- ZOR Stainless exhaust header and exhaust
- ZOR YJ SPUA kit
- Aluminum radiator
- 3rd member gears
- Sumo transfer case gears & HD output shaft
- ZOR chromo axles; 26 spline installed up front.
- ZOR Snatch transfer case mount
- ZOR drive shafts
- ZOR Rock Smasher steering linkage
- ZOR front and rear bumper
- ZOR H-adapters with T&C seats
- Roadless Gear stainless steel top bow
- ABS door, side and tail-gate panels
