Car Tablet for CarPlay

Car Tablet for CarPlay

I am trying to decide between a traditional double din head unit and these Car Tablets that I have seen advertised. The one that seems to have the best brand recognition is CarTablet https://getcartablet.com/en-us/products/pro-max-1

Does anyone have any experience with these? I kinda like the idea because I already have 2 JBL bullet speakers, setups seems simple, comes with dashcam, and I keep the interior original.

My other plan was to buy a nice Alpine head unit ($300) install a couple of new speakers ($150) which is more expensive and intrusive.

Open to your thoughts/suggestions?

Just Sold my Dads 87 JA

My father gave me his ‘87 JA in 2020 after realizing he probably wasn’t going to be able to enjoy it anymore.

It became a pain in my ass the moment we loaded it onto the trailer in southwest Virginia for the trip back to Maryland. But when I did have it running — which honestly wasn’t often enough — my boys absolutely loved it. And looking back, those rides together were probably exactly what my dad had hoped for when he handed me the keys.

My dad passed away in 2023, and after that I just couldn’t bring myself to work on it anymore. Maybe I lost interest. Maybe it was just too hard. Probably both.

Today I sold it. For a lot less than it was worth to me, but it deserved a chance to be driven and enjoyed again instead of sitting still because I couldn’t move forward with it.

After I signed over the title, I walked into the kitchen and completely broke down. My boys thought somebody had died. I honestly didn’t expect watching it get loaded onto another trailer and driven away to hit me that hard.

I really hope the new owners get it running right and make some great memories in it too.

RIP Dad.

I am importing a 2000 Subaru Sambar TT2 to Baltimore. I live within 30 miles of the port and will be renting a U-Haul truck and trailer but I am trying to figure out which trailer I can use?

Any experience would be helpful! Thanks.

I am waiting for my 2000 Sambar TT2 (with 19,065km) to hitch a ride across the pond from Yokohama. In the meantime I went ahead and purchased:

  1. 6 Piece Timing Belt Kit (Timing Belt, Water pump, Tensioner Pulley, Camshaft & Crankshaft Seal, Alternator Belt)

  2. New windshield wipers

  3. Spark plugs

  4. Plug wires

  5. Air, Fuel and Oil filters

  6. Oil drain plug and washer

  7. Oils (LiquiMoly 5W30, Redline GL-5 75w90, Redline MT-90)

Are there any other items you would absolutely complete before driving? Obviously will check condition of the brakes. Maybe a radiator flush (is that necessary)? Seems the CPS is also a known issue, how do you check it?

Other known problem areas to look at and address if it’s an issue?
