What’s more important moon phase or tide/water movement

If there is no new moon or full moon phase but you go fishing on a rising high is it worth going? I’ve done some research and realized that because there’s stronger tides due to the moon there’s more activity during certain times. Should I go fishing even if there’s no good moon phase but I go on a rising high and peak high tide?

North Carolina Surf Fishing

What’s up everyone! looking to stir up a solid discussion around surf fishing on the NC coastline.

I’ve spent some time out there, but I feel like there’s always more to learn, especially when it comes to dialing in when to go, what conditions actually matter, and what you should realistically be targeting throughout the year.

A few things I’m curious about:

- How much weight do you put on wind direction vs swell vs tides when planning a trip?

- Are there certain months where you’ve consistently had better luck from the surf?

- What species are you mainly targeting right now, and what’s been working?

- Do you move spots a lot or commit to a stretch and wait it out?

- Any patterns you’ve noticed that made things “click” for you?

I feel like surf fishing here can either be dead quiet or quite productive, and the difference isn’t always obvious.

Would be cool to hear what’s working for you guys lately

Ugly stik carbon surf spinning rod 12 ft reviews request

I like the affordability of ugly stik but the big water surf casting rod is long, cumbersome, and tiring to handle when fishing cut bait.

If budget allowed I would’ve went straight to St.Croix rods due to it seeming to be the reoccurring theme of people liking the product due to its lightweight construction and yet quality/strength but the price point scares me off for now.

I was looking on the ugly stik website and notice the 12 ft carbon surf spinning rod. 30% lighter it claims… for anyone who have tried these rods preferably 12 ft, what’s it like? Is it well balanced? How heavy does it feel, can you fish with it all day without feeling it getting heavy on you when horsing in a big fish? Is it reliable/ugly stik strong? What fishing weight in oz can it handle?

The year is 2076..... the world has gone to pot and you are only allowed to fish one way😮

Recently I was out on a fishing trip, pondering about life and hypothetical questions that matter - Serious stuff like what if the first person to discover colour blindness was actually colour blind and what we all know is all wrong; you know those types of questions 🤣

And then it came to me, eyes staring steely at the rod tips waiting for a rattle, legs ready to move quickly if the reel starts screaming.

The year is 2076, the Government have outlawed individuals from owning more than 1 rod and reel and worse still ... only allow 1 type method of fishing forever

punishment for those caught, severe .... you must watch the rod have a car door shut on the rod repeatedly until it becomes dust 😮

So yes serious stuff and consequences.

My question is ; what would you do?

Love to hear what you all think and also if anyone else goes into deep thought while fishing haha

Tight Lines !

My first real success since I picked up fishing again

So I started fishing again about a month or so ago. I sold all my stuff about 3 years back. Most of my stuff was geared towards still water and catfish, but I branched out into salt water and found I preferred that, especially the fight sting rays, reds and small sharks put up.

All I've caught recently is croaker, hardheads and gafftop.. went out today and caught this in the first 30 seconds of my first cast.

It's the only one I caught though. I did have another one, I'm pretty sure he was a little bigger because it was putting up more of a fight.. and then the line went slack.

I didn't tighten down my knot on the flouro leader enough I guess. He took off with my hook and gave the rest of my line back.

16 inches, not sure of the weight. Popping cork and live shrimp.

Looking for Feedback on Fishing Website

I've create a website to help me figure out fishing conditions. This is totally vibe coded and was trying to get the machine come up with some algorithm taking into account weather conditions, species, and many other variables.

https://www.sfbayfishing.com/

Open to feedback (good and bad), may or may not be taking feature requests. I'm not on the water enough to validate how accurate the machine was.

Appreciate any insights you might have!

First striper from the surf

I’m a noob surf fisherman, got skunked my first two tries last summer. I went over to half moon bay this morning to try to fish for surf perch but realized my package of sandworms didn’t make it into the tackle box, so spent the day throwing a luckycraft jerk bait, and finally got a little striper right at high tide. I tossed it back because it was undersized. Beautiful day though! Such a thrill. Lots of fun.

Va surf fishing, tips welcomed

I'm an avid angler but have never surf fished in VA. In a few weekends I'll be staying at cape charles. I have experience fishing florida surf. Anything that will be drastically different? Any tips for getting my tips bent?

Is bait readily available to catch? I know how to cast a net and often show up in florida with a cast net banking on catching my own bait.

I've got a variety of gear from 7-9', don't care for the piers.

Question about homemade high low rig

So I have been making an H-L rig at home and taking them to the beach with me. For whatever reason, they break often during the casting. They all break at the line, sometime in the middle, sometimes at the T knot. I think I'm using 40 lbs from Walmart. Should I get a better brand or step up to 50 lbs?

Florida Shark Fishing Setup

Hello! I have a trip to Amelia Island near Jacksonville in June planned.

I am looking purchase a shark fishing setup to target sharks in the > 6 foot range. As well as an additional setup for targeting whiting, pompano, and reds soaking bait.

I have around a $1000 budget for both setups, but am more invested in the quality/durability of the shark setup.

I am currently looking at the

PENN Spinfisher VII 8500 reel

+

Offshore angler ocean master 12’ heavy rod

For the shark setup. But I’m open to get something else in that range or a bit more if it would be better.

I’m undecided on the gear for the smaller setup.

I have a 6000 series Penn Fierce III and an Offshore Angler Brawler Trophy 11 foot MH rod already, but am looking for another, upgraded, similar spec setup, as I will have a lot of family there I would like to be able to fish as well.

If anyone has any input into gear i would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you!
