Just to say it, playing a SRW game with "x mecha anime" in it is not a substitute for actually watching "x mecha anime"

ESPECIALLY because SRW will often only adapt certain chunks of a show, change characterization of certain characters (for better or worse), and sometimes just introduce shit that wasn't even in the original show.

Kids these days use "larping" or whatever, but it is true that "people not watching the show they're talking about" is decently common in mecha fans. And SRW is just not a replacement for that. And this is not meant to gatekeep as more I'm asking you to please watch more mecha anime. This genre rules.

Super Robot Wars Z2: Hakai-hen (PSP) English Translation (v0.8 with VWF)

Hi all,

I’ve been working on an English translation patch for *Super Robot Wars Z2: Hakai-hen* on PSP. It is an AI-translated patch with ongoing manual revision. (It also builds on the previous English menu patch.)

As of v0.8, the story, battle dialogue, and most major UI elements are translated, and the game is playable from start to finish. Compared to the version I released a month ago, the main improvement in this version is VWF (Variable-Width Font) support, so the English text has a lot more room, allowing for much more natural-sounding text. I retranslated the entire script to take advantage of the extra space.

I'm also releasing the Japanese+English script dump on GitHub. Any suggestions or contributions to improve the translation are very welcome.

SRW should re-adapt 0079 Char and Amuro

Since V the games have been jumping straight to post-CCA versions of the two, and don't seem to know what to do with either of them beyond have them flirt vibe with each other and maybe advise younger characters. I like how young Amuro and Char's character arcs are handled in GC, which also found a way to include late-UC units. I'd be happy with their OG anime or Origin versions.

How far does Simon/Gurren Lagann go in the Mazinger universe?

Considering GL was mostly inspired by Mazinger and that GL is actually canon to Shin Mazinger Zero I thought it would be cool to make this comparison, I personally made this tierlist just for base GL but feel free to lmk what yall think regarding the other variants/forms i'll probably make one of these for Getter Robo too!

The main inverse list goes as follows:
(And yes I did exclude a ton of variants I'll be keeping it to a minimum)
Mazinger Z(General)
Mazinger Z(General, with Jet Scrander)
Great Mazinger Prototype(Mazinkaiser OVA)
Great Mazinger(General)
Great Mazinger(General, With Great Booster)
Grendizer(General, With Base Spazer)
Grendizer(General, With Support of ALL Spazers: Jet Spazer, Drill Spazer, Marine Spazer)
Mazinkaiser(Mazinkaiser VS The Great General of Darkness, With Kaiser Scrander)
Mazinger Z(Shin Mazinger Zero VS The Great General of Darkness, 6/7 Black Boxes, with Jet Scrander)
Mazinger Zero(Don't bother trying to scale anyone from GL past Zero by definition anything who's existence derives from Mazinger is inferior by nature)

Will we eventually stop seeing 70's or even 80's mecha series in SRW ?

This is probably one of my biggest fears regarding the series. I want to preface I love the mecha genre as a whole and every age of the genre has its own charm and fantastic designs. I just also have a special attachment to the 70's/80's age, especially now that their designs are so different from how mechas are designed in a modern age.

My fear is that, with the passing of VAs, directors and writers, we'll just get less and less of those series in SRW, especially series that still didn't get a voiced entry (like Acrobunch, Albegas, or Gordian). I admit I'd be completely ok with a recasting of the voices if it meant we saw those series either getting introduced or coming back, but it's probably not something most fans would be ok with.

Am I just overthinking it ?

Say what you want about the pilot but I believe that the Revirius is one of the best designed and animated OG of all the DS games

From the attacks animations to the overall design and of course the combination (final form) this thing is just the best

I am not sure if I should specify only SRW titles or not.... might be interesting to leave it empty.

Edit : 👀 Woops, I might have poked where I shouldn't. I was just expecting replies like "how many games" he appeared in....

I certainly didn't expect there's really "a series of Masaki" as if this is some gundam timeline universe.

Question about Super Robot Wars T editions

Does anyone know the difference between these two listings?

https://www.play-asia.com/en/super-robot-wars-t-multi-language/13/70cf4z

https://www.play-asia.com/en/super-robot-wars-t-multi-language/13/70cf4v

One of them advertises English and Chinese subtitles, and is cheaper...while the other has actual English box-art and advertises English subtitles, but is more expensive. I'm assuming one is the Chinese/Hong Kong release and one is the SEA release for like Malaysia?

All other things being equal I'd obviously prefer to pay less, but I wanna make sure that if I went with the first option that English language would indeed be an option, and that I can set it as a default so that I don't have to faff around with the menus every time I launch the game.

Let's say you could give Kai his own personal mech what would it be?

would you choose a Real-type or a Super-type? And what abilities would you give to each of them? And what kind of weaponry do you want him to have?

There were several moments that made me go "Wow, now that's cool" when playing for the first time that I don't get as often these days...

  1. Super Robot Wars Alpha had mechas actually moving during the attacks - In the previous SRWs, you usually get one image of the mecha just standing still, then when you attack, they just add the visual effect to the still image (For an example, in SRW F, if you never watched Getter Robo before, you might think that Getter Beam actually shot out from Getter-1's finger, since that's where the beam appeared to be coming out from since the image of Getter 1 wasn't moving). However, SRW Alpha actually had the sprite moving quite a bit during the attacks that just surprised me the first time I played it back in 2000.
  2. Super Robot Wars W pushed the graphics of NDS SRW to the next level - The first time I played SRW W after playing SRW J and OG1/2, I was shocked. Yes, there were many things that were just a slight improvement from SRW J (Full Metal Panic and Tekkaman Blade mainly). But Valhawk, the first OG mecha of the game, had finishing visuals to most of its attacks (Usually you only see one for the strongest attack in the previous games). Genesic Gaogaigar's Goldion Crusher was even better than the one from SRW Alpha 3. Valzacard's final attack EXA Nova Shoot Over is just a masterpiece I hope we can see one day in the future OG title (If there is one).
  3. The Bad Endings - Not talking about getting a special game over when you blow up Ideon or God Mars. When I first played SRW Alpha 3 and ended up in the bad ending where Alpha Numbers pretty much reenact the ending of Ideon movie, I thought that was really cool. Then they followed up with Baldios ending in Z. Back then when I was playing SRW games without any guides, I had to make sure that I was making saves between the stages whenever I make a decision on my routes just in case I need to go back to avoid them.
  4. Super Robot Wars Z2 Hakai/Saisei does what SRW W did for PSP - Yes, we had pretty decent SRW game on PSP before Z2 in A Portable. However, most of the stuff from A Portable were pretty much directly imported from Alpha 2, 3, MX, and OGs (Though there were some good original stuff). SRW Z2 shocked me when I played it because it felt like a first true console SRW game that was fully original on a handheld device. It's a common place now since most SRW console games lately had a handheld port, but back then that was quite a treat.
  5. Lastly, Super Robot Wars Z had attacks change depending on whether the enemy was in the sky or on the land - It seems pretty minor, but it just shocked me when I saw the difference between the visuals based on where the enemy was in Z when I first played it. Probably the most evident change is with Big-O, since it's a ground unit, he should not be able to attack the enemies in the air with an attack like Sudden Impact. But the attack changes, so if the enemy is in the air, Big O launches its anchors to pull itself up and deliver the attack. When I first saw it, my jaw dropped.

Was there ever a moment when you went "Wow" when playing SRW?

What's the most fun you have had with bad units in the franchise?

So basically what inspired me to write this subject was that I was reading an article about the worst units in the games since there were some that were so useless that they could barely damage enemies.

For me personally, I have been interested in using Jill in the Raziya from SRW V and SRW X just to see what makes her the worst ally since while I haven't played those games yet, I am very tempted to do so again just to see why her unit was ranked as the worst playable one in the modern era games.
