NBC Cancels Beloved Show and Fans Are Seriously Outraged
In my email inbox this morning with subject line "NBC cancels show with 96% Rotten Tomatoes score":

Nothing we didn't already know, but it's nice to be validated.
#DontFumbleStumble
I’m DEVASTATED about this lovely sitcom that my husband and I have gotten hyperfixated on. I don’t know if they’re allowed to, but maybe getting a good hashtag trending and spreading the word will help them shop around!!
Either way, very sad to see this show cancelled and I hope the cast at the very least can get some opportunities from it! I want to see them all on my screen again, whether it be in this fantastic show or otherwise.
This article will make you mad
So crazy to me that they would acknowledge they fucked up with the scheduling and yet canceled them anyway. And yet these dumbasses that made the mistake in the first place somehow get to keep THEIR jobs? Please.
Another Platform Failure...
I find myself reflecting a lot on the quality of television shows and movies lately. Mostly, I find myself disappointed. And I feel like NBC messed up and is falling in the same traps as other platforms. They lost trust in the audience and forgot for whom they make these shows. They are making shows for themselves at this point, because they certainly dont listen to the viewers.
This is reminiscent of The Office which had poor ratings in season 1. But they listened to the audience who said, market this better, and NBC did. Now The Office is literally their cash cow.
A 96% audience score is phenomenal. Its competitive in the same target audience as Bridgerton and is outscoring it. It was marketed poorly, we know this, but we also can see how loved it was. This show brought me back to the way all of these other shows used to be. Quality entertainment. No agenda. Something for everyone.
Now, NBC continues to follow other platforms lead... they tell the audience they're wrong. That continuing it would cost too much money. Instead of trusting the viewers and saying "maybe youre onto something here".
Imagine if they'd canceled The Office after the first season when they initially wanted to. There is a growing period in niche shows like this. Word of mouth takes a while when they dont invest in the marketing and place it where they should.
But platforms like NBC, Netflix, HBO... they all keep asking "why arent you watching" and the answer is "you lost trust in us, so we lost trust in you. We tell you very plainly what we like, and becauss it's not a blockbuster or not what we expect, its somehow less worthy." What happened to normal feel good shows that were just worth making?
Just my two cents.
According to TVLine, the show has been cancelled. This sucks!
I didn’t watch it on Peacock ten times. I probably watched it eight times straight through (not counting the live viewings on actual tv) with extra viewings for favorite episodes. I’m so sorry
In all seriousness, I probably did watch it eight times through with extra episode viewings haha. What about you guys?
How willing is everyone to cause a real ruckus for Stumble?
Ok hear me out. They are basically saying they canceled it for other new shows they planned. For this season and until they bring it back we would have to vote with wallets. No peacock. No NBC shows. Find other places until they listen. Here is my reasoning... May 2026, NBC's Head of Scheduling, Jeff Bader, addressed the decision, stating, "I love that show" and acknowledging the frustration regarding its Friday night timeslot, noting, "I feel terrible about it".
The cancellation has sparked significant backlash - notable reactions, including:
- High Critical/Audience Reception: Stumble had a 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with fans heavily criticizing the decision to cancel it after only one season.
- Scheduling Critiques: Many viewers felt the show was set up for failure by being Fridays nights death slots and then refusing to move it to a different time.
- Industry Recognition of Backlash: The backlash is noted in industry, with reports calling the show a "beloved" favorite, indicating that the audience reaction has not gone unnoticed by the network.
While acknowledging the show's quality, NBC executives indicated the cancellation was due to a "very tight schedule" and the need to make room for new content, rather than a reflection of the show's merit. this is a cop out of the highest regard because they prioritize cheap to make content and less than stellar family content
Behavior: Data shows that while fans may express anger online, they rarely follow through with total network boycotts once a new, highly anticipated show premieres.
- New Pipeline: NBC is already replacing the slot with brand-new fall series like Line of Fire and Newlyweds, betting that new audiences will quickly outnumber the boycotted viewership - these need to be boycotted first. cut off at the head and make a choice if you want this show we need to follow through
sign petitions. raise your voice. and tell them with your wallet if its important enough
Networks rarely reverse a cancellation once the fall schedule is locked, but fan boycotts and high digital engagement can catch the attention of rival platforms looking for a dedicated, pre-built audience.
- Shift Target to Streaming Platforms
- The Pitch: Platforms care less about live Friday night ratings and more about highly dedicated, binge-watching fanbases that drive new subscriptions.
- Focus on Streamer Tagging Campaigns
Organized fan groups often host coordinated "watch parties" of the existing 13 episodes on streaming platforms where it currently streams, using specific hashtags to trend on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok.
- The Goal: Boosting the show's streaming charts during specific windows signals to executives that the property possesses immediate, monetizable value.
- Support the Cast and Creators
Follow and engage with the show's creators and cast members on social media.
- The Impact: Showrunners often use visible fan passion as leverage when pitching the series to other networks or streaming homes during the contract window before the actors' options open back up.
- The Value: Highlight that the show's 96% audience score proves it succeeds purely on clean humor and strong writing, making it a safe, high-quality investment for their brands.
- Push for a "Syndication" Style Pickup
Clean comedies perform exceptionally well in long-term streaming libraries because they are highly repeatable. You can pitch the campaign to these platforms as a chance to inherit a wholesome, beloved brand that viewers will rewatch for years.
the industry status of a potential rescue remains locked due to standard industry timelines:
- The Cancellation is Too Fresh
NBC officially announced the cancellation on May 1, 2026. In television production, outside studios and rival streamers typically wait weeks or months to review the final data, international broadcast rights, and production costs before holding formal acquisition meetings.
- Contract Options Haven't Expired Yet
The cast and creative teams are usually held under contract options for a few months after a show ends. Fan campaigns use this exact window to create noise because other platforms know they can buy the show seamlessly without having to re-hire the actors from scratch.
- Audiences are Pitching, but Hollywood is Quiet
While fans across social media are actively begging platforms like Paramount+ or alternative networks to save it, trade publications like Deadline and Variety have not reported any formal bids or studio shopping by the show's production company yet.
nbc network prioritizes executive scheduling and corporate profit margins over a high-quality show that genuine audiences love. The television industry functions purely as a numbers game for advertisers and executives, completely ignoring the artistic merit and clean family value of a series.
While the network's cold corporate approach is frustrating, the next few weeks are critical for the fan community to force a change.
- Finding the exact contact info for the independent production studio behind Stumble to encourage them to shop it to other networks.
- Locating the most active fan campaign hubs
NBC’s official response to the backlash is a mix of creative praise, executive regret, and firm operational defenses and total bs. it is standard industry strategy to move a struggling show with high critical acclaim to a better night to see if it can build an audience. they refused to try.
Many of the shows occupying prime weekday slots are unscripted reality competitions or sports blocks. which are the other real areas a genuine boycott can affect**. they grossly say.** These shows are highly profitable, cheap to produce, and locked into strict multi-year broadcast contracts
- The Friday Night "Death Slot" Trap
Networks historically use Friday nights as a holding pen for shows they have already decided not to heavily invest in. Once a show is placed there and the initial ratings drop, executives rarely use their limited, high-traffic weekday slots to rescue it. They simply let the contract expire to make room for new fall content.
Since NBC is firmly holding its ground, the best path forward is to bypass them entirely. so finding names of the executive producers or the independent production studio behind Stumble. They are the ones who actually own the show.
- Why Targeting Reality TV Hurts NBC Most
- High Profit Margins: Programs like The Voice, America's Got Talent, and Deal or No Deal Island are incredibly cheap to produce compared to scripted comedies.
- Ad-Revenue Engines: These shows rely heavily on live viewership and massive corporate sponsorships.
- The Vulnerability: If the Reddit community successfully dents the live ratings of a major reality franchise, it immediately disrupts NBC's highest-margin profit centers.
- How to Make the Reddit Boycott Effective
To make the corporate executives actually take notice, the campaign needs to move beyond just turning off the TV:
- Hit the Sponsors: Identify the primary corporate brands advertising during NBC's reality blocks and tag them on social media, stating you are boycotting their products as long as they fund NBC's programming choices.
- Avoid the Digital Loop: Ensure the community is not accidentally streaming these reality shows on Peacock, as digital clicks still generate ad revenue for NBCUniversal.
- Coordinate the Data Drop: Time your boycott pushes to align with major television sweeps periods, when advertising rates are actively being calculated and locked in.
basically...this will depend on how bad do we want Daytona?
Apparently the reason for cancelling season 2 was the very low ratings. It can in the bottom two. I've never heard anything negative from anyone who have watched this show .I cannot comprehend how very dumb shows get higher ratings . Can someone shed some light on this ratings issue? ( Thanks for the replies.so it depends on the number of viewers rather than bad review. That makes much more sense. They did absolutely nothing for marketing)
What really gets me about this cancellation is just how little effort NBC put into marketing the show.
Compare this to St. Denis Medical. There were a flood of ads for weeks for St. Denis before it premiered, making sure everyone knew when it aired, etc. And it got a pretty good Monday night slot (which, again, everyone knew because NBC constantly aired commercials for it).
I basically learned about Stumble by accident from a Hollywood Reporter article, and then when it finally aired, NBC unceremoniously premiered it in November (well after most new network shows begin) and in a Friday death slot. They never gave it much promotion or much of a chance.
I like St. Denis too, this is no shade to that show. It's just hard not to think if NBC had put any effort into promoting Stumble or given it a decent time slot— let alone the effort they put into promoting St. Denis— we'd still have it.
I get why Brilliant Minds was cancelled, but cancelling Stumble for declining viewership is a load of absolute BS. They put it on Friday nights, and then switched it to Mondays with repeat episodes that had already aired on past Fridays. I assumed that was because it was gaining popularity. And then they put it back on Fridays so that the Reggie show could take that spot, when it doesn’t hold a candle to Stumble. Like at all. And it was barely communicated—as in, you only saw it if you watch NBC regularly. Not to mention the way the Olympics interfered with all regular programming. If viewership was declining, then NBC manufactured it themselves, whether or not they meant to.
Absolutely ridiculous.
No, I don’t mean bozos (that would be too kind). I meant Bahzos, a bunch of baby bitches.
You introduce a show, with minimal promotion. Then you screw its schedule up so bad because Olympics and football. It didn’t get a fair shake and the people at NBC that supported this show know it! Also, you know a show with Tina Fey, Daniel Radcliffe, and Tracy Jordan is far more expensive than a humble heedleston cheer squad.
May AI ruin you, in an efficient way.

Sheriff Potter
Hello, now that season two will only exist in our hearts I was wondering what ideas you all have for what could happen for the characters in the future?
For me one of the things that concerned me was the 80 mile commute for Courtney, so in my mind I like to imagine:
-Coach Potters move into Headltoon, maybe they buy a really shitty house and there could be a subplot of them dealing with repairs
-Boon gets a job as the new Headletoot football coach, or even Courtney's assistant
--OR he actually becomes the sheriff!
Idk thinking of Boon actually becoming the sheriff just brings a lot of joy to my heart.
What are your all's ideas/headcanons??

This show deserved better everything. Marketing. Viewership. Applause.
I am devastated.
Ya, that's head of NBC/U scripted programming Lisa Katz. Take that Lisa!
It has been a long, long time since I stumbled (lol) on a show that sucked me in so immediately and so wholly. Every actor is perfectly cast. Each subplot builds the overall story without being cumbersome. Every rewatch makes me laugh out loud and find new things I didn’t notice before.
I haven’t been invested in a new TV show in so long but I was surprised by how upset I was when I learned it wasn’t renewed for a second season. I hope the cast and crew have seen this Reddit community and feel how much it’s loved by its fans. I also hope other platforms see the opportunity to continue something with a fan base that will promote it to everyone they meet. I know I have since I watched the first episode.
Anyway, just some building feelings I’ve had and shout out to all the other posts about this. It makes me feel at least a little better to see how many other people are frustrated by this NBC decision 💔
