Omni Alignment

Are all of these Omni demo videos using the alignment stick incorrectly? My understanding is that you only use the alignment stick when you are aiming at a target that is offset from “straight” or parallel to the face of the unit?

The JLag, Handicap Golf, and Par2Pro videos all start with trying to align the unit to the stick to get 0.0 showing.

Driver distance on the Square is truly incorrect

EDIT: the Altitude at Golf Galaxy was set to 0 with no wind! I checked myself!

I’ve had my square for 5ish months now. My yardages, shot shapes, etc seems to be accurate with every club except for driver.

I came on this sub to look into it, and many people say “it’s indoor swing syndrome” or “there must be natural light”.

So I went and tested it. I went to the local Golf Galaxy Performance Center and hit every club in the bag on the Trackman set up.

As I expected, it was super accurate for every club except for driver. The weird thing is, most of the driver data WAS ACCURATE. Ball speed around 160, spin between 1900-3000.

But Trackman was giving me 280ish carry 300ish roll out, whereas the Square gives me 265ish carry 275ish roll out.

It must just be the algorithm that calculates distance because it gets the metrics it actually measures correct generally.

Hopefully they can fix the algorithm and give us more accurate driver distances!

Driver/3 wood/5 hybrid zero height

Hey everyone - can’t find anything about this issue. I just got my square golf launch monitor today and was messing around on its maiden voyage and for some reason my driver, 3 wood, and 5 hybrid would register as if they just rolled on the ground the whole way despite seeing the ball hit the net off the ground.

I use black BirTees and a tiny mat which may be an issue. I’ll try to get a video of the swing and what is registering on the software. Every shot is getting an apex of 0.0 and straight up rolling which is not accurate.

If anyone has had this issue and has a solution it would be a huge help. I know my current mat moves a little and I’m planning on getting a 5’ by 5’ mat but I can’t imagine this fixed the issue

No Bluetooth Connection w/Android in new v2.0.1update

Fired up the app on my phone like usual, prompted to update from 2.0.0 (which was working just fine) to 2.0.1.

Now I can't get the unit to connect with my phone at all, and can't even get the 2.0.0 version to roll back. Just a constant blinking blue light on the unit and searching device in the app.

On my PC I can connect just fine over bluetooth though, same app version. This wont work though as my PC is not near my sim so basically got a brick now.

Ive tried the usual turn it off and on, disconnecting the battery, reinstalling the app - nothing. Firmware was latest already, but still refreshed with no results.

Anyone know how to get the 2.0.0 back on my android phone?

Square Pet Peeves

I wanted to see what everyone’s pet peeves were with their square / the software. I love mine and am very happy with it (home version not Omni) but the software for the built in courses pulling the flagstick up when I chip off the green to the hole is frustrating.

Alignment and tracking issues

I’m new to the square LM and I just can’t seem to get the flashing light to turn green (indicating it sees my ball). I make 100 little micro adjustments and still can’t get the green light.

Also, when I did get the green light I hit a shank to the right and the app animated my ball going far left (reverse of what happened).

Any tips? I must be doing things wrong

Edit: it was a mix of closing all the blinds + elevating the monitor

Can the Square HE unit be moved between shots or does it have to calibrate every time?

I haven't ordered the Square HE yet, but I am trying to design a hitting mat and stand for the Square that fits in my garage.

I plan to do the popular gym mat + Golf mat + cutout for hitting strip. I'm also going to 3D print a little stand with adjustable feet so the Square can be at the right height.

But after seeing some videos of people playing sim golf on the square I'm curious if there is a way to move the Square closer and away from the hitting area so you can put on a surface more realistic and flat. Most hitting strips I see in videos look like they develop a shallow divot in them and when people putted on the mat sometimes the ball curved due to that divot. They also commented that its very slow compared to a green so the same putt power doesn't transfer 1:1 to the course.

But if the Square unit must remain in the same position then that idea won't work. I was thinking of a stand that has two cutouts a few inches apart and when putting you move the unit to the put cutout and then back for normal shots. Reading the manual the hitting area is fairly small and specific so a mat with two hitting surface types doesn't seem feasible.

Another Video from Mitch Newsham Using Square OMNI with GSPRO

Nothing more on how outdoor looks, but overall seems rather convinced it's worth the 1.6k. Also has similar complaints about the display being in a weird location, but for an indoor sim, it's fantastic and spot on.

Is price really increasing to $799?

Got this email from playbetter. Is this just a marketing tactic or is the price really increasing soon? And if it has been known, when is it expected to happen? When the Omni comes out?

Help with it reading my driver

I have had the square for a while now and i love it. All except for one thing. Does anyone else have issues with it reading their driver incorrectly. I believe it reads everything else fine but my driver always seems to be read with excessive spin numbers and super short distances. On course I hit my driver between 280 and 300 consistently but on the monitor I average around 240. What’s strange is it reads my 3 wood just fine and I hit it on the sim around 250. I have gotten to where I just use my 3 wood off the tee box because I know it’s going to go further. This really puts me at a disadvantage on GSPro leagues because my swing speed is too high for some leagues so I’m forced to play against guys hitting 300+ off the tee. If you have had this issue and have a fix please let me know. Thanks for reading this and thanks for any help you may have.

A couple questions

  1. I have a fiberbuilt hourglass mat which isn't that big and also can have a little squishiness/give to it, so it's not great to put the square right on the mat. I've had great success putting it on a small piece of 2x4 just off the mat. Does this change the distance measurements at all? More generally, assuming I can consistently get the square to green light me (I can), does the setup affect the measurement much? I ask because I went to the range for the first time in a while this weekend and the trackman there was saying everything was 10-20 yards past where I've been hitting on the square. It's fine if the square is off but consistent, at least I can have fun and improve, but just curious because more accurate is always better.

  2. Does the club selection matter at all? Obviously putter vs not-putter matters, but does driver vs 6 iron vs PW for example matter at all? Or is it just for per-club stat tracking kind of stuff?

Thanks!

Any way to have the Square app run in the background with the camera open?

I'd like to be able to record my swing while using the driving range, without needing to set up my computer every time. Is there a way to do this?

GSpro for Square

I hate the new update to the square software... 2.0 version. I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on GSpro. Can anyone say if there's a reason not to purchase GSpro to use with the square?
