Just got my machine an hour ago :)

Got a brother LS14s. Any tips or improvements? Other than remembering to backstitch at the end lmao.

I love estate sales 😊

Picked these up at an estate sale yesterday - they were hiding in a box of quilting scraps in a barn. I'm so excited to turn them into pillows!

BIG A** Tote

I’ve been wanting to make a big tote for a while and finally got around to making one. The distressing alone took years off of my life 😂😂😂 but the details are so worth it. Even got a 16inch zipper on the inside

I bought this a bit ago how on earth do I use this specific bobbin??

(COMPLETED) So I bought this a bit ago and it was very cheap. I have already used it so I know it works I just have no clue how to put in the bobbin due to a different style. Every time I put it through the string bunches up into like 10 different strings and I can barely get it out. What can I do and how on earth can I thread this?

Edit I figured it out but I am new and have no clue how to archive also I know it’s a toy machine it’s my travel on I was just asking because I don’t believe in wasting electronic items unless it’s legitimately mad.

Plush dog toy - fabric recycling

The fabric is microfiber and filled with silicone beads. This is a great pattern for using up fabric scraps from larger projects.

Hunting for specific lace appliques

Hi all! I've been hunting for a match for these lace appliques so I can get sleeves/a bolero made, but I've been struggling to find anything similar.

The designer does not sell the fabric and I thought it was proprietary, but in my search I've found almost identical appliques and lace on multiple different dresses.

Does anyone know where I might find something like this?

Where do y’all get cheap sewing fabrics and other supplies?

I mostly sew little trinkets and plushies, occasionally upcycle thrift store clothing. I’m looking for buttons, zippers, laces etc as well as fluffy fabrics, but I don’t wanna overpay and thrift stores in my area are usually super expensive 🥹

What is the most challenging/annoying part about doing small sewing projects or making clothes?

The process of sewing a garment or a small craft project includes: designing or purchasing a pattern, cutting the fabric, and sewing. What do you find most challenging about this process?

P1:
Yesterday the labels arrived and the idea of the main patch is to have the stitching visible on the outside but the patch missing. Like an unfinished construction or as if the owner would say: “I dont need a brandname to convince the outside world”.
For jackets I dont know yet. Any suggestions?

P2
The hidden detail for the owner only. The selvedge ID in the waistband and the brand-name-patch is also inside the waistband.
The patch shifts with sewing maybe spray glue it to fixate…

P3 & P4
Above the cuff where the selvedge ID shows we place the woven patch. I need to figure out how to do this as I need more room to manoeuvre. With a wide leg and boxy fit its okay. But straight and tapered I have no change. This label can also work in the neck on the outside of a jacket just below the collar.

P5
The idea of the booklet label. Just peaking out. The label is visible from two sides so it can also be in an out-seam not against the fabric. Like in a jacket. Close to the pocket.

How should I price my first customer?

(21F)I am a new seamstress, ive done some pieces for my family and partner. I only have materials to it by hand, and im currently good with downsizing/ alerting how the clothing looks/ is styled. I cannot do much more than that yet.

So, somebody is willing to pay me to sew in a fabric lining to some bags they made, ill need a better thread which will cost around 5 dollars. I do not want to charge alot, but I also dont want to low ball myself to hard, I dont have a job.

The bags are relatively small, borderline medium and they're crocheted. Each should take about 3-4 hours each.

So what should I charge for them?

Help with style/ pattern recommendation for surprise fabric

When I bought this fabric, it had a slight texture that I loved, but when I washed it, it turned in to crinkle fabric. It's also a really lovely red with a slight sheen to it (the photo makes it look more orange in color).

When I saw it, I knew right away what style of dress I wanted to make out of it and bought 5 yards of this stuff. After washing it and seeing the texture, I don't think it's going to work for the style and pattern I had picked out, which is similar to the photo of the black dress.

It has a little bit of a stiffer drape and is not as flowy.

I need something with a waistband, but I'm not really sure, as I have never sewn with fabric like this, and all the dresses I googled in ready-to-wear are all loose-fitting. I need a more fitted waist, or I look frumpy.

What do you all think? Would the fabric work for the style I had in mind? What other pattern style should I be looking at?

Normally, when I buy fabric, I can already "see" the dress; the fabric just kind of speaks to me. I can't envision this fabric as anything....But I so desperately want to give it a try, as I do love the color, and I think the texture could be fun if I can find the right pattern.

I'm also an intermediate sewer.

Greetings, I'm planning on using this giant houndstooth for making a lightweight hooded sunscarf/ cape/ thing based on this heavy cape/ hood/ mantle thing I've made before.

My concern is just how large each gap in the weave is. Currently the plan is to mark and cut pieces as usual, then immediately overlock each edge with a piece of ¼" twill tape added to try and stabilize everything. Think this will be enough?

My only other idea is to iron on stabilizer across the full length of fabric. This would have the advantage of preserving any scraps, but would burn through so much stabilizer when a large portion would be wasted as scraps
