Help with style/ pattern recommendation for surprise fabric

When I bought this fabric, it had a slight texture that I loved, but when I washed it, it turned in to crinkle fabric. It's also a really lovely red with a slight sheen to it (the photo makes it look more orange in color).

When I saw it, I knew right away what style of dress I wanted to make out of it and bought 5 yards of this stuff. After washing it and seeing the texture, I don't think it's going to work for the style and pattern I had picked out, which is similar to the photo of the black dress.

It has a little bit of a stiffer drape and is not as flowy.

I need something with a waistband, but I'm not really sure, as I have never sewn with fabric like this, and all the dresses I googled in ready-to-wear are all loose-fitting. I need a more fitted waist, or I look frumpy.

What do you all think? Would the fabric work for the style I had in mind? What other pattern style should I be looking at?

Normally, when I buy fabric, I can already "see" the dress; the fabric just kind of speaks to me. I can't envision this fabric as anything....But I so desperately want to give it a try, as I do love the color, and I think the texture could be fun if I can find the right pattern.

I'm also an intermediate sewer.
