Rejected from Semmelweis University Dentistry even after a much better second attempt — any idea why?

Hi everyone,

I applied to the Dentistry program at Semmelweis University.

During my first entrance exam attempt, I honestly don’t think I did very well, so I understood the rejection. But for my second attempt, I prepared much more seriously and genuinely felt that I did really well in both the written exam and the oral interview.

That’s why I was very surprised to receive another rejection.

I’m trying to understand what could have been the reason. Do they sometimes reject applicants even with good exam performance because of competition, limited seats, previous academic background, or something else?

— I want to understand what might have happened because I truly believed my second attempt went much better.

Has anyone experienced something similar, especially for Dentistry?

Thanks a lot.

Waitlisted after first entrance exam, chances after retaking in mid/late May?

I took the entrance exam at the end of April and unfortunately got waitlisted. I felt like most parts went well, my English was strong, and my CV and motivation letter were good. Although I probably didn’t answer some of the exam questions as well as I could have. I was also asked something that was outside the topic list, which threw me off.

I now have another chance to take the exam on May 18, and I feel much more prepared this time. I’ve reviewed the topics properly and I’m confident I can do well with the knowledge part, but I’m still nervous because it’s my second chance and I really don’t want to get waitlisted again.

Does anyone know if taking the entrance exam around mid/late May is considered too late? Have people still been accepted after taking the exam around these dates, or are most spots usually already filled by then?

Also, has anyone here taken the entrance exam once, gotten waitlisted, then taken it again and ended up getting accepted?

I know no one can give a definite answer, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who had a similar experience.

I recently took an oral exam and failed, which completely caught me off guard.

The flow was quite fast, and whenever I answered, they immediately moved on to the next topic.

I didn't fail to answer a single question and thought I hit all the right keywords, but I still got a rejection.

Now I have a retake coming up.

Has anyone had the exact same examiner for a retake?

If so, did they grade differently or focus on different things?

I'm trying to figure out what went wrong and how to prepare for the same person.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi I’m going to take the entrance exam on the 15 of may and I have the oral exam on may 18. I haven’t really studied hard but I just need to revise, the sample test is literally just not related to the subjects and the list of topics is vague on what the questions are going to look like, does anyone have any past papers or an idea what questions they are going to ask? I need some idea to practice. Also does anyone know what the topics they are going to ask for the oral exam I’m really unsure what to revise or study please let me know

oral exam

hi everyone, i will be taking my exam in a couple of days but it will be online. i was just wondering if there's anything different in an online oral exam than a face to face one. such as would they ask you to draw structures, show pictures, anything. also if there's a seperate camera i need to use like the written exams. i would appreaciate if someone could tell me how it goes like and what is required

did anyone mess up their oral and still get in??

i’m fairly confident in my written exam results but i couldn’t answer a lot of the questions that the interviewer was looking for such as examples of more hormones and some details of translation. lowkey she was smiling a bit after i said i don’t remember and it felt like she was laughing at me 😭 this is my second try so i don’t have any more chances…

1st: English- It was easy, if you have the vocabulary of a 4th grader ittl be light work

2nd: Biology- It was lengthy and there was a question with a bunch of fill in the blanks that genuienly got to me , i think i left 2 questions but yeah study DNA and RNA structures, enzymes, etc

3rd: Chemistry was difficult no doubt i wasnt able to finish the last question because i ran out of time and there was a question where they gave a bunch of compounds and drag and drop the names, it was do-able but time consuming and make sure to study Moles, volume at stp and i think most of the questions were from the chapter solutions

4th: BioMed English: i would say easiest of the 4 its really basic knowlegde like "what does elevate mean".

I have my oral tomorrow will update

GoodLuck to everyone!!!

Hey so I had a technical difficulty on the 19th and I had to retake the exam on the 25th I just got an automated message that I didn’t pass

Which feels very weird because I feel like after checking I had most answers right… I’m pretty sure I got and automated score for the test on the 19th which was left empty

Anybody else had the same issue ?

Hi everyone, I recently had my Semmelweis interview and I wanted to ask for some honest opinions.

During the interview, there were a few moments where I paused and thought for a bit before answering (so there was a bit of silence at times). However, I did manage to answer all of the questions in the end.

I’m a bit worried that those pauses might have negatively affected my performance. Do you think having some thinking time / short silence during answers is okay, as long as I eventually gave reasonable answers?

Would really appreciate any feedback or similar experiences. Thanks!

Hi, I recently got accepted into the medicine program, and I am looking for a roommate to share a 2-bedroom apartment preferably in the 8th or 9th district. I'm not sure if there are any other groups that people use to find roommates, so I wanted to try this one out. Please dm if interested.
