Asia Haul Pt 1

Will be going in and out of Asia for the next couple of months. This haul was in March 2026 where I visited Tokyo, Osaka, and Malaysia. Will post more hauls and fit pics in /rawdenim when I get a chance.

Pictured (Left to right):
CDW Lot 47 18oz (Cheese Denim Works, Malaysian Denim)
Full Count 1101xx Full Count 1101SS BK
UES Henley + T-shirts
Flathead T-shirt
Oni 295 Loose Straight Ishikawadai
Samurai 5100VX Zero+
Iron heart 634z

Tokyo

Started in Umeda — hit Hinoya, Americaya, and General Garden.
Hinoya had strong current-season stock (Momotaro, Big John, Boncoura, Sugar Cane wide leg), but no Onis left.

General Garden upstairs had some older Samurai models (3100VX, 5000, 5100) and Full Count. I’ve been eyeing the 5100VX, but sizing didn’t work out. Also saw the Full Count black “super smooth” denim here, but again, wrong size. Worth noting: not tax-free.

Full Count Harajuku
Went the next day — full restock on the black super smooths across multiple cuts. Ended up grabbing the 1101BK. Most expensive pair of the trip (~¥30k after tax refund), but worth it.

PBJ Harajuku
Barely any denim inventory. Same as last year — small shop, limited stock.

Flat Head
Stopped by mainly for shirts — always liked their stuff.

Okayama Denim (Showroom)
Friend booked last-minute, ended up double-booked but the staff (super chill) still let us browse. Solid selection, easy to go through. Older Samurai models didn’t fit me, but my friend picked up TCBs (~$160, great value) and Samurai 3100VX.

Denimio
~45 min from Ginza, but absolutely worth it. Huge selection — best Oni inventory I saw in Tokyo. Tried Samurai 5100 and Eternal 811 (too slim). Only Oni that worked for me was the 295 cinch back — my thighs ruled out most other cuts.

Osaka

Samurai Store
Mostly Sakura and GL3 15oz, plus some 21oz and standard models but limited sizing. Shirts didn’t fit me well. Left with just socks and soap. Later found a 5100 in my size online — Japan search results hit different.

UES
Great stock. Tees and henleys fit perfectly, and they offer hemming — honestly solves the usual “too long” issue with Japanese tops.

Kindal (Secondhand)
Visited a few — only the Yatsubashi location had raw denim. Found some Full Count, Warehouse, and Sugar Cane Collectibles. Picked up a pair of Full Count 1101XX (older model — noticeably hairier than current ones).

Iron Heart (Osaka)
Much easier to get to than the Tokyo store. Came for a denim shirt but none in stock. Tried denim instead — asked about the 888, but they don’t carry overseas models. Tried the 634Z (21oz) and it fit perfectly despite expecting it to be slim. Super comfortable for the weight. Ended up buying — also the cheapest new pair (~¥24k).

Cheese Denim Works
Wanted to explore Southeast Asian denim. Most brands leaned lower rise + slimmer fits, but found CDW’s 18oz 1947 cut. Ordered through The Yarn Goods (Malaysia).

Sad Day

I got these brave star die hard sensei 16.5 oz double knee a week ago. I was out at the archery range today and one of my arrows was stuck pretty good in the target. I pulled pretty hard and accidentally punched a hole through 2 layers of denim. I’m just gonna keep rocking them as is and try to fix them if the hole gets any worse.

Where can I find jeans under 28 inches?

I'm looking at getting a pair of wide fit heavyweight selvedge jeans for wearing when riding a motorcycle. I quite like Unbranded Brands 21oz wide fit jeans, but they don't go smaller than a 28. Does anyone know where I can get a similar pair but in a 26 or 25?

Reminder that Levis uses dynamic pricing

These screenshots were taken at the same time, one on desktop and one on mobile while I was at home. They're the same pair of jeans. What an infuriating business practice.

The trinity of 1947

Sugar Canes 1947 Silhouette might be one of the most beloved out there. I gathered all 3 of them. From left to tight (Okinawa, Hawaii and 1947).

I need to say for me the Okinawas are my absolute favorites! Unfortunately the Hawaiis i bought to small so i need to sell them but they‘re very beautiful with this lighter blue and the streaks.

What are your favorites at the moment/all time?

Old man dress jeans

I have a couple pair of heavier weight selvedge jeans that I love and continue to wear casually. I am looking to add a lighter weight selvedge jean that could be worn in a more business setting. Think dressier boots and derbies (CJ or Alden) and a long sleeve button down (maybe with a sport coat or sweater). Budget is around $300. Any recommendations?

Retiring My First Pair Of Raws - 437 Wears / 6 Washes

These are my first pair of raw denim jeans, worn since march of 2024. They are the Brave Star 22oz Gauntlet in the strongman fit.

They definitely have many more wears left in them but have gotten too tight for me to wear comfortably so I decided to retire them from my rotation.

Not sure if I'm gonna sell them or donate them but they were an awesome first pair and I made a lot of memories while wearing them. Plus, I think the fades I developed are pretty sick.

sizing of samurai s713vxii

I've been wearing momotaro 18oz (shashiko GTB) with a waist size of 34 and manual 35. Is the sizing of the this samurai jeans similar to the momotaro? Any suggestion of waist size should be taken for the samurai. Thanks for the help

Samurai S511XX-YY 25OZ 5 months update. First wash

Washed these bad boys for the first time the other day and wore them for bout a day. The creases, honeycombs and whiskers came back and I was going to hold off on washing them for a month but I didn’t want to risk a crotch blowout. I can’t wait to see how they’ll look after a few weeks.

Im looking to buy my first pair of selvedge and tried on the sugar cane 2025s in a local shop, which were perfect in terms of fit and look, but I'd ideally like a heavier denim. I found these 15oz jeans on the bronson website which are half the price, are they comparable in quality? will two more ounces be worth risking them not fitting as well as I liked the sugar canes? any advice would be appreciated !

Selvedge in Maryland or Philly?

Hi everyone. I’m taking a work trip in the next few weeks and would like any suggestions for selvedge (or leather goods) in the area. Willing to travel out of my way to visit cool spots.

Any suggestions help!

First Momotaro in postpartum body

TL;DR

Postpartum body, trying to be kinder to myself (and working through some body dysmorphia too). Got Momotaro Women Super Wide 11oz—comfortable, forgiving, and fits my current life. Great entry point for partners new to selvedge too. Also picked up the #001 Standard Type 1 jacket thanks to a review here—no regrets.

To begin with, I had my second born a little over a year ago. And somehow, even now, my body still doesn’t quite feel like my own—my pre-baby jeans definitely don’t fit me anymore. It’s been a mix of general anxiety, lack of sleep, and just the everyday juggling of childcare, housework, and work… so I decided I didn’t need the added stress of jeans sizing on top of everything else. (I’m also aware that some of this might lean into body dysmorphia, which I’m trying to work on slowly, alongside everything else.)

So instead of trying to make my body fit into my jeans, why not just wear jeans that fit my body? In an effort to make peace with myself and offer a bit more grace, I picked up a few pairs of my usual go-tos (Uniqlo and Nudie) with my current sizing. And then, this one: my first pair of Momotaro jeans.

I did try browsing through a few subreddits for references, and while I understand that raw/selvedge denim tends to lean more towards men, it was still a bit discouraging to see so few posts from women. So I thought maybe I could add one for the ladies.

I’ve had some experience with raw/selvedge denim before—APC and Flat Head, the usual suspects—but this is my first Momotaro. I’ve always known about their craftsmanship & quality, but never quite got the chance to try them. So I’m genuinely glad my first experience turned out to be such a good one.

I was excited to find that Momotaro released a wide and super wide range for women. With all the toddler chasing and errand running these days, I’ve grown quite partial to a more relaxed fit, so I opted for the lighter 11oz with one wash super wide. And honestly I feel it fits me perfectly.

A little long in the legs, but I’m pretending it’s a styling choice and not a proportion issue—I’m leaving it unhemmed for now and seeing how I feel about it over time. The high rise is especially forgiving (in the best way), and helps smooth things out around my “mum pouch” without feeling restrictive. The fabric feels soft but still substantial, breathable enough for daily wear, and not overly stiff like I remember heavier raws can be. It drapes nicely, moves well, and just… feels easy to live in. Which, at this stage of life, matters more than anything.

It’s also so versatile—I can dress it up a little or just throw it on for a day out with the kids and not think twice. There’s something quietly comforting about a piece that just works. I also feel like the wide cut and lighter fabric make it a great entry point, especially if you’re trying to introduce selvedge to your partner without overwhelming them.

Also, thanks to u/indigomonstera over at r/rawdenim, I ended up getting the exact #001 Standard Type 1 jacket as well—and she was absolutely right in her review. I won’t even try to add much here because she already put everything so eloquently. I went with size M for a more oversized look, and it works really well. Bonus: my partner can wear it too.

It’s been years—more than a decade, really—since I last owned selvedge/raw denim, and this time I’m not chasing fades or any sort of “target”. I’m taking it slow, wearing it as it is, and just letting it be part of my everyday. I’m just happy I found a quality pair of jeans that fit me, and make me feel like myself again. And I hope that’s enough.

Could brushing off a stain along the whole lenght of the jeans with a brush be an option of cleaning them without water washing them
