Cutscenes for Documentary

Hey guys!

I am an independent filmmaker who has been working on a documentary about the owner of the largest arcade in the world, and his 30+ year quest to complete his own 2D digitized fighting game. If you're interested, you can check out an early trailer HERE.

We are in the final stretch, and there are a number of stories that are recounted within the film that I want to present in the manner of cutscenes. I also want to employ a variety of cutscene types: everything from Ninja Gaiden-style sprites to dithered live-action segments to low-poly PS1-style sequences.

And here is where I am hoping that you folks can help me out.

What are your favorite cutscenes? What are examples of cutscenes that exemplify a specific style? What are the most unique and/or genre-defining cutscenes?

Thanks!

For awareness:
I purchased Mario games for my 3DS console from Retrovgames / RetroFam, expecting to receive authentic products based on how the listings were presented. Instead, the games arrived from an eBay seller, and the item I received was defective.

When I contacted them about the issue, they claimed that the eBay seller was one of their “suppliers,” but after looking deeper into it, it became clear that they are simply dropshipping products from eBay at a much higher price. In my experience, they were not transparent about this at all.
What’s even more concerning is that the listings make the games appear original, but what I received was a fake/reproduction copy. After researching further, I found many negative reviews and complaints across different review platforms from customers with similar experiences.
Please do your research carefully before buying from Retrovgames / RetroFam. Also be cautious when purchasing from marketplaces like Amazon, Walmart Marketplace, Mercari, and similar platforms, as their products may also be listed there through third-party sellers.

Buyers deserve honesty and transparency.

On April 1st I purchased a Nintendo 3ds XL console with Retrovgames/RetroFam online. The website promised to deliver within 5-7 days but it arrive on the 10th day.

Customer service is unreliable, they do not answer and assist with your concern for days so you have to keep emailing and when you call the customer service line a person with hard accent will answer the call after a few tries and not very helpful at all. My order did not arrive within 5-7 days but instead on the 10th day. When I received it, the console is just wrapped in bubble wrap and with damages maybe because during shipping or they ship it that way. I tested the console and it did not work, i saw an error sayong “CTRND”.

So again, I reached out to them and only received a response which I think is AI generated that someone will get back to me. I waited for 5 days to get a response and they still haven’t resolved the issue. I requested for a return but to my surprise it is very hard to communicate and get a return label from them, you need to deal with all processes.

After another 5 days, I received a return label but they informed me that it will take another 5-7 days to get a replacement. Again, the replacement did not arrive between 5-7 days, it arrive on the 8th day, but to my surprise, they sent me the same console that they first send. Why I know this? I took pictures of the first console and it is very identical. So in the end, i returned the console for refund but they told me they will charge a 10% restocking fee.

I give up after that!!! After all the inconvenience they still charge me restocking fee. So I said yes, and waited for another 10 days and another 10 days to get a refund. After the refund, I have to wait 5-10 business days to reflect on our account. In the end, I gave up, I will never purchase from them again and I hope this post will raise awareness to not even consider purchasing from them. This will save you a headache and I promise you, you will not get your money’s worth. Stay away from their website retrovgames and retrofam both of the same company. They also sell on ebay, walmart, amazon and most of the marketplaces.
