Hawk Matic HK-3+ Auto Start Tube Feeder (3D Print/Build/Assembly)

Finished the HK-3+ Auto Start Tube Feeder project after 4 days of P/T work (I'm retired...) to 3D print the parts, build, and wire the assembly consisting of 4 servos, a color sensor, Arduino IDE compatible ESP32 control board and component wiring. I'm currently building my second auto tube feeder as a gift to my brother who introduced me to the MYO hobby. Pretty sure the second build will go much faster...

I found the FREE 3D print model and assembly instructions online at Maker World (https://makerworld.com/en/models/2048328-hk-3-automatic-shell-feeder#profileId-2210469).

The detailed 42-page PDF Instructions in German was converted to English using Google Translate. I used GROK (xAI) to convert the Arduino IDE 2.3.8 control file/comments in German to English,

If you have an HK-3+ and 3D printer (or know someone who has a 3D printer) I highly recommend this project. Load your king size tubes, favorite tobacco... press the GREEN Master Start Cycle button and away she goes!!!

(Edit: The HK-3+ sits on top of the assembly and DOES NOT require opening the HK-3+ or altering it in any way. A servo arm depresses the HK-3+ START button. The Auto Start Tube Feeder is like an octopus that is wrapped around the HK-3+ and easy to remove and use manually if desired. The feeder gets its power from the HK-3+ power adapter and a female to two (2) males adapter cable. Cost to build was approx. $125 USD in parts and one (1) roll of 3D printer filament from Amazon.com. The required parts/shopping list is included in the PDF instructions.)

Old Holborn Yellow Review

Got this in Croatia for NINE EUROS. I don’t know why the price was so high.

Old Holborn is a Virginia tobacco. This is the light version. There is a stronger, dark Virginia version in blue packaging and an even lighter version in white packaging. There is also an aromatic version in orange packaging but I have never seen it.

Straight out of the pouch it was very moist. It has a double closure system.

The smell reminded me of Camel Yellow so I was expecting it to be an American blend however I was very wrong. Its a very smooth smoke, it was sweet with a bit of smokiness. I don’t know the nicotine content of it but it doesn’t leave me immediately craving another one like other Virginia tobaccos.

Probably would buy it again but right now I’m more interested in trying out the dark Virginia or the aromatic version.

Van nelle!!!!!!One of my favorite brands

It has a strong smoky flavor, with a hint of cocoa bean flavor in the aftertaste. The tobacco is cut coarsely

So I have a problem with my MYO smokes becoming rather dry and crunchy if I dont smoke them immediately after making them. So I have been doing some reading and found these things. I plan to start putting my tobacco in glass jars instead of leaving it in in the bags.

I just wondered if anybody had any experience with them and will they really help keep my tobacco moist.

Edit: Also, I dont know if y'all noticed but I live in Las Vegas. So I pretty much live in the desert. So if this changes the viewpoints for some of yall please let me know.

Rehumidify Your Tobacco

RAW Brand terracotta work well for rehydrating dry tobacco soak the stone and distilled water for 5 minutes and pat dry so it's damp but not dripping then place and sealed mason jar with the tobacco keep out of sunlight and check tobacco after a few hours once it becomes soft and springy again

Tobacco and tube recommendations for Lucky Strike Red 100s/Camel Filters 100s smoker.

New to all this and I am a bit overwhelmed by all the choices for tobacco and tubes. I'm looking for some recommendations for something similiar to Lucky Strike Red 100s or Camel Filters 100s. I tried some Criss Cross Red but found it was a bit milder than what I am used to. Any recommendations for tobacco and tubes would be greatly appreciated.

Hello there Compared to anyone else here, I might be quite new to the rolling tobacco world.

I'd love to share my tobacco collection with you and have some suggestions .

What you can see in the pictures here are 8 types of tobacco,

Virginia tobacco,

Russian tobacco,

Oriental Aulya/Awliya Diyar Bakir tobacco,

Kurdish Khoshnau (Xoşnau) tobacco,

Premium Iraqi Shawor tobacco,

Coconut flavored tobacco,

Marlboro Gold tobacco,

and Turkish Adıyaman Kaptan Black chocolate infused tobacco.

What I personally prefer and currently usually smoke is Aulya tobacco, a traditional tutun (rolling tobacco) both in Iraq and Turkey, Virginia tobacco, and Iraqi Shawor

And sometimes I blend the Aulya with the Virginia.

Thank you all for reading, and I would love to get some recommendations.

Powermatic?

A pack of American spirit yellow is 15-17$ here.

It seems like a powematic 5 would fill tubes easy.

Anyone recreate an American spirit yellow to any closeness?

Since the Mac baren was bought, I can't seem to find new packages of this specific tobacco in Italy.

Will the production be completely stopped?

Do you have any suggestions on which tobacco to move on ? I am struggling to find a good substitute easily available in my country Golden Virginia green seems too wet and different, I tried a yellow package called Virginia and was very different, dry and significantly stronger.

What do you suggest to do?

I was always smoking Danish Zware and halfzware so I was skeptical, orange is considered medium variant but it's a full bodied smoke. I would describe it as smooth but full bodied at the same time.

From what I observe It uses a high-quality Oriental and Virginia tobaccos.

It’s nutty with a hint of sweetness and it's own aroma. No "chemical" aftertaste.

IMHO It sits in the medium in terms of strength category. Plus Is that it won't won't leave you feeling dizzy or dry mouth like some let's say Kentucky Zware of halfzware blends. Room note is pleasant making it a bit less smelly in close quarters compared to zwares although I thoroughly enjoy those 😋.

How it rolls

It's fine shag cut: so it's very easy to handle, almost like silk under fingers.

Moisture level Straight out of the pouch, it usually has that just enough type of moisture level—not so damp that it won't stay lit, and not so dry that you can't hand roll. Final thought's:

If you find the Dark blend a bit too strong for an all-day smoke, tho Dark Blue also known as original is not much stronger just different.Orange is can't go wrong variant

Perfect for morning smokes or those who find heavy blends "too much" for daily use.

Perfect all rounder...

Help finding rolling tobacco in NYC.

Apologies in advance if this isn’t the right sub for this but I’m desperate. I’m looking for a light tobacco. My only local options are American spirit or drum. PS here and there. I’m looking for 2 specific tobaccos (pictured). Any help at all would be appreciated I’m even willing to go to Jersey. I’ve found them online but shipping to New York isn’t available. You guys are my only hope 🙏

Drum Bright Blue review

First time trying fire-cured Kentucky leaves. It has a high Virginia content and a hint of Oriental.

Flavour: Smooth and sweet. Has a considerable hint of toasted flavour. Pleasant and floral room note. It's not pungent.

It can be a day to day smoke but with this I prefer to adapt a more controlled consumption. After meals, with coffee or tea. Good meditation by the window.

It's obviously more exotic than the only Virginia ryo. I give a solid 9/10. Very interesting smell and taste. I'm happy with my purchase.

(Bought in Spain)

Enjoy ur thursday! ✌🏻

A perfect smoke…

A dart rolled by my hand rolled cigarette mentor and inspiration. He has taught me everything I know about the art, and always a treat when he blesses me with one of his immaculate creations. I’ll get there one day, but, until then, I’ll have what he’s having. Happy smoking, everyone.
