Old Holborn Yellow Review

Got this in Croatia for NINE EUROS. I don’t know why the price was so high.

Old Holborn is a Virginia tobacco. This is the light version. There is a stronger, dark Virginia version in blue packaging and an even lighter version in white packaging. There is also an aromatic version in orange packaging but I have never seen it.

Straight out of the pouch it was very moist. It has a double closure system.

The smell reminded me of Camel Yellow so I was expecting it to be an American blend however I was very wrong. Its a very smooth smoke, it was sweet with a bit of smokiness. I don’t know the nicotine content of it but it doesn’t leave me immediately craving another one like other Virginia tobaccos.

Probably would buy it again but right now I’m more interested in trying out the dark Virginia or the aromatic version.

Anyone else only able to taste the tobacco after washing their teeth

This might be a little random but I’ve noticed that I am only able taste cigs after washing my teeth. After that all my sense for the taste goes directly out the window and it all ends up tasting the same to me.

For example: I get up, I shower, eat breakfast and I go to my uni. If I have time I get some coffee and roll myself one and I can perfectly taste the tobacco in the cigarette. Then I go about my day. But if I have a cig after lunch then I can’t taste any of the tobacco flavours. Anyone else notice this ?

Got this in Vienna for 7 €. I have been on the hunt for it for quite some time. On the Scandinavian Tobacco Group’s website it lists my country (Slovenia) as on of the countries where this tobacco is available but I have never been able to find it.

I was rolling with Smoking Paper Long Slim filters and Rizla Thin Blue papers

First of all. The pouch is absolutely gorgeous I don’t think there’s any denying that. The name has this really nice gold outline and when you open it there’s some info about the blend, which is flue cured Virginia with a bit of Burley and Oriental tobaccos.

Now when I opened it I sadly found out that it was dry as hell, Im talking straight dust, so I rehydrated it and now it’s a bit better.

Considering the tobacco’s name is Authentic Virginia I expected a more traditional Virgina taste (smooth, sweet) however the taste is more akin to an american blend, something like a Camel Blue or a No Name white. I did notice that it gets somewhat sweeter, almost savoury, the closer I got to the filter but I think thats just the seal between the rolling paper and the filter getting loose. The smoke is nice, it’s not very harsh and quite smooth. Its not the weakest nicotine wise since I don’t immediately start itching for another one but its not so strong that I would have to take a break.

Overall it’s a solid tobacco, however nothing special. I probably won’t buy it again but I will definitely enjoy it.
