Hi everyone, do prison officers usually get breaks during night shifts? I'll be starting soon & i would like to have an idea of how the night shift runs.

Annual leave

Hi guys, I’m starting training on the 15th June and and trading ends 21 August, I already have a holiday booked for 9-16 September but partners family are trying to book one for 22nd October to 1 November and so I have 2 things. Who do I contact to try book it off? and can I even book it off? Like do you start with all 25 days of leave or would I have to buy leave? Also considering it’s rota shift, would a week long holiday require all 7 days off or just whatever they would put me on? Thanks in advance

Do you think Defence Solicitors genuinely try to help you or do you feel they are part of the system pretending to help but screwing you over?

Annex A

Hi everyone, I’ve been in the annex A process for a bit now for OSG, how long did it take you and is there anything left or is this the end?

Thank you!

Onboarding Call Expectations ..

I have my onboarding call this week, passed everything, now have the call booked in.
Assuming it’s to arrange start date for training. Just wondering how long is it usually before they give you a start date, is it a month later or do cohorts run every few months.
Also other than sorting a date what else gets discussed.
For context this is for a ‘Youth Justice Worker’ band 3. Think it’s very similar to a Prison Officer just in youth prison.
Also any info on Newbold Revel, such as what to expect (the none corporate take on it)
Any info would be great 👍

I’m visiting my partner in prison for the first time.

My partner of 15 years had what appears to have been a severe mental health breakdown earlier this year and ended up on remand in prison. For weeks I genuinely thought something terrible had happened to him because all contact stopped completely. I’ve only recently found out where he is as he has been in segregation and have now spoken to him on the phone.

He sounded very emotional and has asked me to visit him this Saturday. It will be my first ever prison visit and honestly I feel incredibly nervous and overwhelmed. Part of me is relieved he’s alive and sounding more like himself, but another part of me is anxious about what it’s actually going to feel like seeing him there.

A few practical questions for anyone who has done this before:

- Is there a dress code?
- Are you allowed to hug them?
- What is the process like when you arrive?
- How early do you need to get there?
- What can/can’t you bring?
- Is it awkward or emotional seeing them for the first time?

For context, he’s in forest bank in Manchester.
Would really appreciate any advice because this is all very new to me.

First Day Prison Officer

So after training can anyone give an honest take on the first week as a fully fledged PO?

Nervous?

Overwhelmed?

Stressed?

Enjoyable?

Annex a stage

Hello,

What was the average wait after completing their annex A forms for the next part? Also what is next?

Also, am i now at another “how long is a piece of string” situation again?

I am hoping for no delay on this as I dont use social media and no links to any prisoners.

Thanks in advance!

Can you share your first day as an OSG

I have my first day next month as an OSG, what was your first day like, what did you do? They marked mine as an induction day so just looking for an idea of what it’ll be like. Also did you collect your uniform on first day or does it take a few days/weeks?
