Looking for people to skate with

I’m back in early sobriety and want to start something new, have always loved watching skateboard videos and want to give it a go. Bit scared of showing up to a park by myself though.

I’m 24m, live near Portsmouth and can drive.

Let me know if there’s any groups or if anyone can help get me started would really appreciate it

House hunting from abroad

Hi all! I’m making the move to Portsmouth later this year, coming in from another country. Inhave started house hunting and found some really great spots in the PO2, PO4 and PO5 areas that fit my needs quite well. I’ll be coming in as a professional grad student so I’d like a place relatively close to the uni, but not too close. I’d be happy with a 20minute commute. Ideally I’d like to stay alone, (single female), in a furnished or partly finished apartment. I may be moving to another city after year 1 so I don’t necessarily want to spend money furnishing a whole place yet. Budget is about £1000, for a 1 bedroom flat. I’ve reached out to a few agencies via email but it’s been crickets for weeks. Because I am abroad, I’d have to do virtual viewings and liaise with an agent that’s open and experienced in handling these types of applications. So my question is, what’s the best way to go about house hunting and hopefully secure a place for August before I arrive? I’d also appreciate any other tips and advice on what to expect in this process etc. Thank you so much!

Is there anywhere quiet to live in Portsmouth? I'm sick of north end terraced houses.

Hey,

So I live in north end and where I am AuDHD and work fully remote, I don't get out much and I'm super sick of the noise from both sides and living opposite a car auto shop.

I am 36, I don't have many friends offline and I just want peace and quiet.

My house mate is likely to get a job offer at my place soon but sadly he wants to stay in Portsmouth. We are best friends and have a lot of history and own two cats. So we want to stay as a unit.

Our current rent is £1300 pm.

Where in this city is quiet and away from people? Preferably a semi detached to rent. General areas where there are places to walk in nature and away from screaming council estate shitheads that I'm sick and tired of listening to. (Seriously, I had to hear two 12 year olds shouting the N word next to my bedroom non stop with paper thin walls yesterday). I don't get much sleep in this house, the council won't do anything.

If my friend gets this job we will have full freedom of remote working and both earning about 28k a year with no travel costs.

Where can we go that's just away from the depressing cesspit of this city without actually moving too far away from friends etc?

Student accom query

Choosing between Margaret Rule and Rosalind Franklin. Any advice appreciated. They seem quite similar although Rosalind is a bit cheaper and Margaret has some construction this year.. should be a no brainer?

got banned from cascades 6th floor in the car park or something, any recommendations that are like it?

ive been going up there since december/january time listening to music and spending some time alone, and also to get over my fear of lifts. its so pretty up there when the sun goes down, but i guess theyve been looking at the cctv or something cos some staff came up to me and told me not to do that when i got off the lift on tuesday.

i really liked it up there and have no clue if any place has a view like that because that was genuinely my safe space

Older DnB heads in Portsmouth?

Been in Portsmouth for a few years, but I’ve got a bit stuck in the work/kids routine and I’m trying to get out to more local events.

I’m interested in going to the Dino DnB event at Staggeringly Good on 6 June, but don’t really fancy turning up solo. Any other older DnB heads around who’d be up for meeting for a drink beforehand and checking it out?

I’m mid-40s and into DnB, pubs, gigs, philosophy, good conversation, walks, and generally getting out of the house more.

Auto undercoating?

My husband wants to get our 12 year old hybrid undercoated to keep it going as long as possible. Can anyone recommend a good place? It doesn't have to be on the island, he's willing to travel. But it does need to be reasonably affordable, as he's been out of work since September and we're barely getting by on savings.

Thanks for any suggestions.

High nitrates in tap water

I know this is niche but I have an aquarium and was having trouble with water levels so I tested the water and it very high in nitrates.. like 60-70ppm. Is this normal for the area or is this an issue with where I’m living?
