Rep. Nancy Mace introduces measure to expel fellow Republican Cory Mills from Congress

This is a rather surprising turn of events, given that it looked as though they were going to sweep the Cory Miller story under the rug after Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzalez resigned. Whether this goes anywhere is a different matter. However, the cracks within the GOP are showing.

Progressive Abdul El-Sayed Surges To Primary Lead In Poll After Hasan Piker Rally

Say what you want about Hasan, but this is huge. We're really beginning to see a tide shift here - assuming this holds and El-Sayed wins. Even if he doesn't win, we've seen it time and time again with these upsets. The momentum is undeniable. People are sick and tired of being fucked over by late-stage capitalism/corporatism. People are sick and tired of our money going to support Israel as opposed to issues here back at home. People are also tired of do-nothing Democrats and people mincing words.

MSM media is also failing and independent lefty media is flourishing in its infancy. As time goes on, I expect more positive impacts.

Phonebank for Virginia - tonight!

Hey party people,

Everyone is so passionate and motivated in this sub; I thought I’d sound the alarm that Virginia (a very purple state) has a special election tomorrow (4/21) on whether they should vote “yes” on a new redistricting map that favors Democrats and counteracts previous redistricting actions by Republicans.

Special elections are usually low-turnout, so you can phonebank or text bank from the comfort of your own home, no matter where you are in the U.S. to get out their vote. I’m super introverted and phone-averse and these always go well for me!

I am linking a Mobilize event, but just google “phone bank for Virginia” to find other options if you’re not a fan.

A small thing to be positive about

The Amazing Digital Circus, an independent passion project created by a trans woman, is not only in theaters, but it's beating out JKR's petty transphobic Harry Potter reboot no one asked for and TADC episode 9 isn't even out yet! No matter how you feel about TADC this is huge! I hope this inspires more LGBT+ creators to pursue their passions.

I know this is something small and things for trans people are unfortunately very shitty right now, but this is something small to celebrate! I think it's important to celebrate victories both big and small.

Also a lot of kids are about to have Baby's first End of Evangelion and that's funny as shit! :^)

If you're an lgbt+ creator talk about some projects you're doing and are passionate about! I'd love to hear them.

Hundreds of fake pro-Trump avatars emerge on social media

For those of you wondering why I went with the “Optimistic Post” flair, this is a sign that the MAGA movement is losing.

They are getting desperate to the point that they started using AI as another form of astroturfing just in time for the midterms. Since Trump returned to office, Democrats have been winning so many elections left and right.

As for the AI-generated accounts, there are obvious signs (e.g., grammar mistakes, peripheral cues) that give away the lack of authenticity.

Anyway, have an awesome day!

2026 Polls: California Governor

midterms are coming up, and the primary for governor (at least in california) are nearing, and i'm freaking out. i'm glad to see a democrat is gaining traction, but i'm terribly worried--and quite frankly terrified--that the primary will result in two republicans. i would love to see optimistic takes on this, if there are any.

Community Positivity Megathread: In your Fridge edition

Welcome back to the community Positivity Megathread! Let's talk chill, man. I mean real cool. Like in your fridge cool.

As always, the rules apply and you are not required to reply on theme.

This week's theme: Your fridge. Why? I'm a fridgey mood, what's weird about that. Got something good in there? Something tasty planned? Leftovers from a fun event? Or what's the weirdest thing you've ever had in your fridge?

I'll out myself as a creep, my weirdest thing has always been dead critters. And no I don't mean the meat I'm cooking later; I preserve bones! Right now I'm working on a small bird skull, so it's in the freezer to help the process while I'm waiting for a good day to move to step two. It is ultimately kinda a gross craft, but the result is a cool bone you can display. I get mine from natural loss in nature, such as roadkill or disease, which means you need to practice care when handling them. Freezing and then boiling the flesh off both help to kill disease.

Bones are cool.

Sensationalism Spreading In Times of Uncertainty (And How It's Almost Always Wrong)

Since I made a pretty lengthy post a few days ago, I wanted to make this a lot shorter (Didn't really succeed). To Put it bluntly, we are in very confusing, difficult times. I often wake up to a new, distressing headline because of the administration's desire of creating noise for the sake of noise. And with the War in Iran, my anxiousness can often spike randomly and rapidly.

I've talked about this a lot in the past, but due to the nature of the current events in Iran and the last couple of weeks involving Trump getting much more outrageous in his claims, it's important to repeat: Sensationalist headlines and claims are going to be frequent, not due to accuracy, but due to a desire of attention.

From a person claiming that Trump posting a video of Frank Sinatra's "My Way" is a sign of potential escalation, to others claiming reports of a bunker in the ballroom is a sign of Trump getting ready to grab power, To the usual claims of Trump using Nuclear Weapons, there is a lot of claims rapidly making waves with no real basis in reality. In the time of the Internet and attention seeking, people are taking it upon themselves to repeat headlines but obfuscate or change a few words to make the case that "We're so doomed! We're cooked! It's so over!". This isn't due to any belief in this from the ones spreading this, but a desire of getting eyes on the headlines that "No one else is reporting".

And the comments are definitely going to add on to the fearmongering as well. Many of these people spread more conspiracies even more outrageous than the last, for mostly the same reasons: attention and likes. Things seem so bad now that surely these claims are believeable in times like this, right? (I'm also of the mind that just as right wing trolls are very likely to be bots, these doomers are bots made by the same people to make people lose hope and activism).

In times of distress and confusion, it's important to try to spread both reasonable hope, and accurate news. Otherwise, people are going to give up since they already think we've lost. The people spreading this will say they're on your side, or they're just asking questions, but they're wrong. They are as bad as people saying everything's alright and perfectly fine, they just have a different tone of voice. Sometimes people are in the dark, and that's just how it works. Due to the war in Iran, people have taken the chance of making an already stressful situation worse, and spreading a higher amount of misinformation for their own sakes. And it is imperative that we combat this by being as accurate, understanding, and straightforward as we can.
