Physician Associate (UK) pathway — Access to HE entry, career prospects and stability?
Hello everyone,
I’m considering the Physician Associate (PA) pathway in the UK and would appreciate honest guidance from current students or practising PAs.
- Is Access to HE (Health/Science) generally accepted as an entry route for PA courses?
- With recent GMC regulation changes and ongoing NHS discussions, how do you realistically see the future scope and stability of the PA role?
- Would you still recommend the PA route in 2026?
- Also, does prior healthcare experience (e.g. 5 years in UK care sector) strengthen applications significantly?
Trying to make a realistic decision based on long-term stability and family commitments.
Would really appreciate genuine insights. Thank you.
