I been collecting physical media for over a year now and just got back into wrestling back in December...wanted to start getting WWE/F dvd n wanted Wrestlemania 17...why this is so expensive?
Watch one native blu ray disc at 25mb-35mb rate and you will see what they are taking from the consumer. It will only get worse as licensing and royalties get more expensive.
The ad tier will eventually have generic ai music instead of license tracks. Product placement injected into your movies. If you needed a sign to try physical media again, your window for affordability is shrinking.
They will only continue to edit , throttle, and ai dynamic alter your experience based on behavioral tracking.
We are past the subsidized streaming era, now wall street consolidation and extraction phase begins.
When Paramount Skydance WB deal passes this Thursday, they will control 30% of the market.
Netflix or Super Max will be your choices. It will be like cable tv all over again but with ai injected and dynamic quality changes every point of the way.
The physical media production pipeline is being sunset with Sony controlling almost every single companies physical releases. You will see strictly 4k steelbooks $50 be the new norm. Limited releases with pre order only to create fomo.
Window is closing very fast.
Pop in a blu ray disc of your favorite.
It will blow your mind.
Hope this helps someone see the writing on the wall.
My parent were going to get rid of these DVDs, so I was happy to take them off their hands. There was some water damage to the box they were in, but thankfully nothing was damaged and they all look to be in good shape. I couldn't let these go, as I remember watching a few of these DVDs growing up. Plus can't let the Rambo collection go, had to at least save that.
Have you guys watched any of these? I forgot Christian Bale was in Shaft.
I'm doing a uni project on physical media but specifically why GenZ is beginning to find interest in physical media. (but I'm open to hear anyones opinions)
I just wanted to get some insight on why you personally may or may not be consuming you're media more physically. What has caused this switch for you? What type of physical media do you collect? dvds, cds, vinyls etc.
Looking for words of experience here from anyone who has gotten rid of their collection and regretted it, or known someone who has, or almost did but decided to hold onto it after all.
The photos show only a fraction of my parents’ CD collection, theres at least 15 of these boxes. they are slightly organized but this is definitely not everything. My dad wants to downsize and get rid of a bunch of physical media because “its all on streaming anyways” and he’s on this kick of getting rid of things in general. I am begging him not to get rid of these CDs (and vinyls but that is a different can of worms) and he just doesn’t get it. He thinks it can all be found on streaming and sure, a significant amount of this stuff is on streaming, but definitely not everything?!
I personally do not want to be reliant on streaming. I appreciate the experience of choosing a disc, loading it up, and letting it play front to back. i like the tangibility of a jewel case with all the artwork and lyrics and credits. i find peace in knowing that the disc in my hands is mine and can never be changed or replaced.
that being said, I am not saying never get rid of anything ever. I am sure there are things here and there that we don’t need to hold onto, but overall, i think it would be a mistake to purge this collection. what do you all think?
Hi! It’s me again. Joe, the human dude building a video store in a trailer.
So many of you were so so so supportive in my previous posts, and a whole bunch of people asked to see the finished product so… here it is! Everything I did from start to finish.
Final photos start at about the 2:40 mark if you want to skip ahead.
Again, thanks to the entire r/nashville community for the supportive comments, DMs and follows. Y’all did a lot to build my confidence in this project.
Cheers!
Hey all! I've been collecting physical media for around 4 years, I mostly focus on Blu-Ray/4k but recently I've been picking up DVD, VHS and LaserDisk versions of some of my favorites. I'm a huge horror fan as well. Happy to be part of the community!
I got a bit carried away with this one, it started as an idea to combine two albums into a single release, and turned into a full packaging project.
Designed and printed two booklets, built a double CD case, and experimented with lenticular printing for the front/back covers.
The goal was to recreate that more immersive 'physical' experience where you’ve got something to sit and engage with while listening.
I also documented the full process here if anyone’s curious / wants to make their own: https://youtu.be/gidup7YaInQ
Have loved seeing everyone else's hauls from the recent deals. Here's mine!
Great packaging for for the Pop Market discs, would definitely purchase from them again. Very similar experience as Please Rewind. Got lucky with Amazon I guess... last disc I ordered from Amazon arrived with a broken case.
Excited to add these to my collection.
Just crossed 117 4K discs! Here my full collection if you're interested.
Absolutely love this & how striking, yet simple the art work is!
I have a large dvd collection. My goal is to be able to stream it mostly at home but potentially while i’m on vacation. I have thousands of dvd’s and a huge amount of Tv series on dvd as well. My current thought is to do either a NAS or some type of a home lab with jellyfin. If there is a better stand alone software or option please let me know. I would like the movie to have a thumbnail pic and description with it so that others can look through the collection online to find something to watch.
Forgot to check each case to make sure each DVD was in there. Thankfully they all were accounted for when I checked at home.
Used my Store Credit at Bull Moose and paid $0.27 out of pocket.
