I made a sulfur cube with TNT without mods or data packs (ignore the transitions)

I'm not usually part of this train, but I low-key agree this time

Like the Sulfer Cube has some neat things I've seen people do with it, but when it comes to Survival stuff I just wasn't seeing the use cases until the Boat stuff that's been happening. This new snapshot is just super disappointing to me, it feels like as big of a misstep as when they almost made Slime and Honey stick together

I made a quick, vanilla friendly mockup of what sulfur springs should actually look like (plus a before pic for reference)

Tried to make this more concave than convex, like an actual sulfur spring (like the pools we already have in the caves), and not a mound of sulfur with a puddle of water

Features:

-2 block deep pool; relatively small (size variants would still exist; I just made this very quickly)

-Thick rim of sulfur by the water

-Thin outer rim of calcite (since sulfur springs often have calcium deposits; calcite should probably generate in the caves as well)

-Excessive glow lichen in the water to reference algae/bacteria that create "green sulfur" (already sort of referenced in the actual caves)

Built this in a desert because that's where the nearest spring in the first seed I picked was at, but even this design I slapped together in not even 20 minutes would blend in to grassy biomes way better than the awful "springs" we have now

The Entire Minecraft Community the moment the Sulfur Cube was released

Took the design of the Slime Girl from the ancient Mob Talker Mod and essentially tried to match the colours used by the Sulfur Cube as best as I could.

If I wasn't lazy I would've added the sulfur clouds, but I am not that strong willed of a cheeto.

If Mojang Made Potent Sulfur Realistic

I think the noxious fumes created by potent sulfur are supposed to be SO2 and H2S, both sulfur-containing gases created by volcanic activity. A concentration of 1000 parts per million (or 1 in 1000) of SO2 is enough to kill you in ten minutes. The same concentration of H2S will kill you in one breath.

So if we’re being 100% realistic the gas would accumulate in these sulfur caves and you would probably die just by entering one. Also some of those pools would probably be full of sulfuric acid which would cause chemical burns if you jumped in.

I am, of course, nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking because its fun, actually making you instantly die would make the game suck. However, as a chemistry nerd, I really do feel like the sulfur caves are totally underwhelming.

Anyways I did this with a datapack and a tripwire-activated command block.
