What do you guys think? How's the outlook for PS4 looking in 2026 & beyond? What are the real pros & cons of this system in the now?

I remember getting my PS2 in October, 2004. I was blown away by classics like Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts, and Devil May Cry. I eventually built up a library large enough to rival my GameCube library. I had most of the best games on the console, including Okami, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Tales of the Abyss, SoulCalibur III, and a ton more.

When I got my PS4, I got it with Bloodborne. As a Dark Souls enthusiast, I was so terrible at the game I couldn't beat it for years. Outside of Dark Souls III, I was underwhelmed with the selection. I would say the PS4 shouldn't have been released for years after 2013. I would even go as far as to say it had an even slower start than the PS3 did.

When 2017 hit, everything changed. Tales of Berseria, NieR: Automata, Yakuza 0, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, and Persona 5 all came out. It was the craziest year I had seen where everything just came out at once. I delved into so many classics.

PS4 had amazing ports and remasters like REmake HD and RE4. It ultimately released my favorite game on the system - Final Fantasy VII Remake - on top of everything else.

I think the reason people don't value the PS4 compared to the PS2 is two reasons.

1. It's not a historic revolution the way the PS1 and PS2 were. The revolution already happened. This was a continuation.

2. The system lacks an exclusive library.

This was the generation where they started providing more timed exclusives than ever before. Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Marvel's Spider-Man, and Horizon all went to PC. You can't by definition, call them "exclusives" anymore.

I feel were it not for that, more people would remember the PS4 as having one of the single greatest libraries of all time. At the very least equal to the PS2 depending on your taste. Though I also think a major portion of that also comes down to nostalgia.

Genshin's Achievements on PS4

As someone who lives in Iran, this seems like such a minor issue, compared to the terrible issues caused by the internet blackout ruled by the government.

I thought I could shed a light on the subject and explain my own issue.

I only had one Achievement left for Genshin to be 100% on my achievements list, which as luck would have it, it was a time gated achievement, the Lunar quests with Columbina.

I had enough time to complete it when someone decided to start a pointless war and the other suppressive party decided to shut its own peoples voices for control.

A total internet blackout.

You have to pay a huge sum to buy Configs and connect.

Hold and behold I'm only able to connect via phone and now it's impossible to update the achievements for PS4 even if you get them later on on different devices.

I feel like it would be simple for Sony and Hoyo to update the game on PS4 to be just a launcher, load into the game to pop the achievements and that's it.

The game is still live so I do not understand why it should leave such a bad taste in the achievement hunters mouths.

Guys I'm sick of this. I doubt PS gives a f about us anymore but the ps store sucks. I spend 30 to 40 dollars every other month or so, just scrolling through the ps store sales.

The menu is so busted. The top third says the name of section, you show me three games in the mid row, and half of the games in the next row, which is the row my cursor is on! The cursor is on the bottom row! Not the middle!

And when I decide to look into a game, the pictures don't even show up. This company tried to sell us a credit card but they can't even get the jpegs in their store to work. They must think we are idiots.

And then after I get my search going, I'm ten minutes scrolled into my selection, I add something to the cart and hopefully continue searching, but then they serve me an add for ps plus (which I would fn have already if I could afford it) and it resets my search page. I was going to add more games to my cart, but now I'm too annoyed to even buy the first one. Wtf Sony? Do you really have to make searching for games so annoying? How is this making money for you? And they keep asking me to upgrade to ps5 but there is no way I'm sticking with Sony for my next system. Quit trying to extort me and just let scroll through your games! I'm trying to give you money idiots!

Back up your data, save the things important to you. I know it's silly but I just sat there and cried because it's all gone. This post is just a reminder or informer for those of you like me who didn't know this could even happen.

Already delisted from Steam and Xbox storefronts but still live on PlayStation for PS4 and PS5. Just an FYI if you want this before it disappears.

So basically it shouldn't be too surpising that PS4 is still getting new releases.

PS4 (and Xbox One) latest release in Japan is Mega Man Star Force Legacy in March 2026.

When I click on the Internet and it shows selections for what Internet it says "PS4-" and a bunch of random letters and numbers. How do I get its password?

I bought a used PS4 Slim to play exclusive games like The Last of US and Bloodborne. I’m currently playing through the Last of Us Part II and my TV (TCL QM6K) had interpolation on by default.

Knowing the limitations of the PS4 I thought the TLOUP2 would look choppy at 30fps, but wow does the game feel smooth with interpolation on. The TVs I had growing up would have really smeary interpolation effects. However maybe the technology in newer higher end TV models have improved to the point where it’s more usable? It looks close to 60fps without any noticeable artifacts (maybe closer to 45 fps in some instances).

Granted I haven’t had perfect results, when there is very fast motion on the screen it looks like the frame rate drops back down closer to 30 fps, however for the most part it maintains a smooth image without causing a smeary image. I’ve also noticed not all games output equally. Bloodborne for example looks a lot choppier with interpolation on. Maybe some games that have better motion blur or something output better with interpolation?

Just curious how everyone else feels about it. In the past I have rejected interpolation technology, but I have been really enjoying how effective it has been paired with older video games.
