Like it or not this island is SO racist

Omg I’m appalled to the core, and it’s actually very disgusting that we are normalizing attacking innocent people based on f*ucking lies and propaganda and it’s becoming more common here. We are starting to lose the title of being the safest province. Today I stood up for a Muslim young lady who was walking minding her business where a f*uck ass guy approach her and called her a crazy f*ucking terrorist, then yelled at her to go back to her country, like how the hell do you know she isn’t from here or born here, or is it okay to just attack all visible minorities? Poor girl was left shaking. Funny part is that he doesn’t look like he belonged here either, maybe he should go back to his country. It is so traumatizing to see such hate and bigotry on this island. I’m ashamed. I have his description if anyone could help identifying him it would be great because he’s a miserable prick and wants to spread that here.

Do I need to book hotels in advance?

My husband and I will be visiting July 8-10 and have opposite opinions on whether to book a hotel in advance. We are not fussy where the hotel is (city or small town). I think we need to book in advance, he thinks we can just find something when we get there.

Who is right? Do we need to book in advance or will we find places when we get there?

It's like a bad omen or something....

Moving to Alberton?

Thinking of moving back to the Island after almost a decade away. I'll be coming back with a family. Not very interested in living in Charlottetown or Summerside. Can anyone tell me what Alberton is like these days? Are there young families? Community feel? How easy is it to make connections? I remember they used to have expos and parades and stuff. Do they still? How are the schools? Crime? Basically, tell me everything you can about life in Alberton.

2 nights in PEI

We are making a little road trip to Ile de la Madeleine, and are currently planning to spend 2 nights in PEI. we like seafood, and hope to get find some interesting restaurants — we can do lobster roll and fish and chips for lunch, but would like recommendations for good meals in the evening, on the more expensive side — could be modern/experimental, sushi, ceviche, as long as it's great. (looked in the past posts but either the lists are too long (!), or getting old). So what would be the 2-3 places you would not miss if it was your only chance? (around first week of september if that makes a difference). TIA

Are Summerside apartment prices as crazy as they seem (from a Google search)?

I’m a new nurse, potentially getting on with Health PEI in Summerside, but thinking twice about it because the rents seem outrageous: I’m seeing $1000 for a room, $1400 for a studio or 1-bedroom. Is this the reality or could I find something reasonable through local connections once I get there?

Man found in Malpeque Bay, P.E.I. finally identified after nearly 30 years through DNA

This story was huge news 30 years ago - Most accounts said the body came up tangled in lobster gear so the body was most likely not a floater from the Island but from away. Many people speculated it was tied to the Hell's Angels, which had to have been pure speculation, but it is interesting that the body has now been tied to Quebec regarding the organized crime connection.

Regardless I am a nosey Islander and would love to know more.

Loud bang 4pm

Was sitting on the steps on the south shore (argyle shore-esk) and there was a massive bang. It rattled the plates in the cupboard and on the walls, thought nana or Grampy fell out of bed having a nap.

Didn’t think much it sounded like a dump truck, but people on Facebook are talking about it too.

Anyone hear anything? I mean, it was LOUD, all signs seems to point nobody on the north shore/down east heard it.

How do I make make friends/connections here?

I’m originally from New Brunswick, but I moved to Charlottetown for college 4 years go and have decided to stay. I’ve made a few friends here, but I’ve also been trying to meet more people and find more of a community.

Lately I’ve been spending more time in cafes because I feel like the people who hang around coffee shops, galleries, and similar spaces are more my crowd. I became a regular at Leonhard’s, The Shed, and Receiver.

Leonhard’s is nice but usually packed, so it’s hard to find a seat on the days I’m available to go. The Shed is alright, but I’m not huge on the coffee. Receiver is probably my favourite overall for coffee and baked goods, but I’ve noticed a certain vibe there too. It feels very trendy — one of my coworkers described it as a “to see and be seen” kind of place and that’s why she stopped going.

The staff were mostly polite and personable, but even after going there regularly from September to February, sometimes twice a week, I still felt like a complete stranger every time unlike the other cafes back home where they would at least initiate small talk and remember my order. Meanwhile other regulars at Receiver would come in and immediately sit down and chat with staff and other people. There’s nothing wrong with that obviously, but it did make me feel a bit on the outside looking in, especially when I did initiate conversation with no luck. Honestly, the staff and regulars seem like the kind of people I’d naturally get along with, which made it feel a little more disappointing.

One of my friends even had a crush on one of the baristas, so getting her to come wasn’t difficult, but eventually we both stopped going months ago because her schedule changed and I didn’t really feel like going alone.

I’ve started realizing that it can be hard as a 20-something to break into social circles on PEI. People are friendly, and I’ve gone to events, cafes, shops, and other community spaces, but friendliness doesn’t always translate into actual friendship. I know it’s not impossible, but it definitely feels harder here sometimes. Anyone got any tips or have had a similar experience?

Bridesmaid dress alteration recommendations

I'm looking for someone who can do a dress alteration for a bridesmaid dress. I'm having a hard time finding anyone online, and anyone I called won't seem to commit to an appointment.

Dress needs to be taken in 2 sizes and probably a small hem at the bottom. Hoping for Charlottetown or nearby but happy to drive across the island if needed. The wedding isn't until the end of July so I have some time.

I'm just looking for someone reputable who can ideally confirm a timeline for me. Any suggestions would be so appreciated, thank you!

Trying to look for a Lobster Supper for Birthday today

Good morning everyone I was trying to look for places to have lobster supper today. I forgot that it's a holiday today and not all places are open. Wanted to go to PEI because I always heard great things about the island and the good people.

If there's any other places you would recommended that would be great too. I'm also looking into eating some good shellfish too if possible.

Thank you everyone!

(Summerside) Ride-on mower snapped a belt, anybody know anybody?

It's kind of an old mower, an MTD Yard Machines. My father in law thought he could do it but once we looked it up he realized that he probably can't.

Thinking of moving to PEI near Charlottetown as an RN

Hi! My partner and I are considering moving to the island next year :)
I was wondering if there are any PEI nurses on here that can tell me what working on the island is like, and whether you enjoy it. I’m also considering the NP program at UPEI and was wondering if anyone has any feedback on the program and/or the university.
Thanks in advance!

Moving to PEI

I am looking at what our options will be. We are a Canadian family moving back to Canada from California. We are looking to rent for 6-12 months before we buy a place. We have 3 indoor cats and a dog. I have heard that it is hard to rent when you have pets. We can pay up to 3K a month and need a 4 bedroom probably within 30 minutes of Charlottetown. Is this going to be doable? If so, where is the best place to look? I would like to avoid traveling there to find a place ahead of time, if possible.

Looking for recommendations for jewelers on the island.

Hi there - If this is in the wrong sub let me know and I'll adjust.

For the last decade my family has come to the island for a few weeks at a time to vacation. This visit has me on the hunt for two things: a watch and getting a mens wedding band made.

What are your recommendations for any watch retailers on the island?

Additionally, what are my options for having a mens wedding band made from somebody here on the island? I understand this would most likely not be something obtained in time for our departure but would love to have it made on the island.

I understand options may be limited but love supporting the island and the people here in any way we can.

Apologies again if in the wrong sub but needed to start somewhere!
