Otakon Hotel Parties
Hey guys! Just wanted to ask a quick question. I grew up watching a lot of convention videos, and I recall a lot of videos where people would just meet up and have hotel room pregames and such. Now that we're older but still newer to the con scene, I was curious how people meet up for stuff like that? I want me and my friends to get the full con experience we grew up watching. Also, we were thinking of hosting a cosplay event in our hotel (we're doing resident evil lol) and would love to meet more people! Appreciate the help!
Otakon badge "Character Class" registration tutorial.
Just in case you cared to register, this is how you get to the sign up sheet.
It cuts off at the end because my personal info pops up but I'll put a screenshot in the comments to show the next step.
Panel acceptances?
Not to be that guy, but I was wondering if panel selection letters have gone out yet? Ive seen notice of a few people get acceptance letters for workshops and artist alley submissions, and i wanted to know if panel notifications have gone out yet or not.
Dumb question! Used to be huge into anime and cosplay, and remember Otakon being a massive deal for a lot of people, I'm planning on going this year for the first time and just wanted to see if there is still going to be a big turnout, planning a trip around it from NY just don't want to waste time and money for it to be a dud, noticed the guest list is sparse as well, but hopefully im just being stupid?
I got accepted to do a workshop panel at otakon this year and it is my first ever! can anyone give me any tips or tricks, sage advice to make sure it runs smoothly?
thank you!
Artist alley acceptances
Has anyone gotten any rejections to acceptances?
Still waiting on my answer!
Thanks! :)
As Otakon is approaching in a couple of months, I'm excited to say the least this is my first actual convention that I am going to with my girlfriend and I, as well as two other friends I've met online who had experience with Ota! (Both myself and my girlfriend are going in our first con!)
I have already arranged a room reserved and my other set of friends are experienced with going to conventions like Ota, so with that I got a few questions beforehand:
I reserved a hotel over at CitizenM for a more affordable spot to not only be close to the convention, but also be as practical on spending as my girl is coming from NY (helping her out with her travel) and the ride over to the center. If anyone has experience from a place like CitizenM and outside of the ones the con provided, are they fine with fresh cosplayers like myself and my girlfriend in terms of appropriation on props and outfits?
Speaking of props, I'm doing a Ghostface OC for the con and I'm looking to buy gun props over on a place like Amazon and eBay, but I'm concerned about restrictions. So does it need to be non-moving for example? I know some people need to have an orange tip for example as of course, it's in DC and gun inspections are really needed to see if it's lethal or non.
Lastly, 3. Whilst the room with my girlfriend and I have it from July 31st to August 2nd, is it better to pay for all 3 weekends or a single day? We're still unsure (mainly from her side on a personal note) if we're only doing Saturday or at least both Saturday and Sunday because I'm picking her up from her ride from NY to DC as it is her first time traveling to DC. Not putting in too much details I am aware this subreddit is public, but overall the expenses are pretty mid-high since the transport, the con itself, and also post-con activities.
Please let me know! It's my first convention like I said with my girlfriend and I and thankfully, two of my friends who went to Ota before coming from other states, will assist us on this journey!
If you're looking for the most affordable hotel that is also close by, I reccommend either the Moxy or the Comfort Inn.
EDIT: Sunday, MAY 3rd.
i've gone to it's a few years but usually left early. what's the party scene like? any recs for having more fun?
and do people party thursday night?
hello! this will be my first time going to otakon and I’m beyond excited. I know in the past there used to be ways to suggest Japanese guests for the con but it looks like there isn’t a set place for that anymore? I know it’s a long shot, but there’s someone I would love to suggest and this year kinda feels like the make it or break it year for it.
if anyone has any insight pls let me know :)
Is it easy? Are there any risks I should be aware of? Friend and I want to transfer hotel room from under his name to mine but I heard you can't change the CC which sounds annoying.
a couple friends and I applied for idolfes some of us just wanted free tickets, some wanted to perform but all of us wanted to have fun with it and bring back "by the fans for the fans" instead of this corporate "give us more money" stuff. but that's just if we even get in
