I figured it’s time to start a dedicated thread for everyone going through the NYSDOCCS hiring process. Whether you just got the call for the academy, you’re already in, or you’re still waiting on your investigator let’s share timelines and experiences.

A few things we’re all trying to figure out:

· Which regions are moving faster right now?

· How long was the wait between the psych evaluation and a follow-up?

· Has anyone been DQ’d, appealed, and later accepted?

· Missing documents? Still waiting on a “path to acceptance”?

· Current COs – how long from application to first day?

Use this format if you want to keep things clear:

Region (Upstate/NYC/WNY/etc):

Applied date:

Psych eval date:

Status (Academy/Waiting/DQ/Reconsideration/Working):

Wait time so far:

Any notes (missing docs, investigator follow-ups, region transfer requests, etc):

I’ll start in the comments. The goal is to help each other understand where NYSDOCCS actually needs people vs. where the process is sitting in molasses. Also hoping to hear from people who got DQ’ed and came back from it that helps with the wait anxiety more than anything.

Let’s make this a positive, useful thread. Venting is fine, but let’s keep it helpful.

Example comment to post right after:

Region: NYC

Applied: 23 March 2026

Psych eval: 9 April 2026

Status: Still waiting, no call yet

Wait time so far: ~ 3 weeks since psych

Notes: did not hear anything yet from my Investigator

Not a mod, but let’s keep this civil. No facility names, no specific psych questions that break confidentiality. Just timelines, regions, and experiences. If you’re working, feel free to say region only no need to name facility.

This is my 3rd time going to psych. I just wanted to know if they would refer back to my previous attempts to cross check my answers? Also would they know if I lie about therapy and getting fired?

Hey everyone, I just had my psych interview and I think it went pretty well. During the application process, I listed that I had completed my bachelor's degree. but during the interview, when asked where I graduated from, I accidentally gave the name of my associate degree college instead of my university. I corrected myself immediately. My background and employment history are both solid, but I’m worried, could I be disqualified because of that slip up?

Hey guys, I just talked to my recruiter and realized that I was in region 1 so quick question how long does it normally take for region 1 people to get call back for the academy? Just curious because this process has my anxiety through the roof.

What to bring for med/interview

Good evening, i have my medical and interview at cohoes tomorrow. So i know they say to come in gym clothes first and then change later into your business clothes. My question is do they give you a place to change? Also do i bring my other clothes in a bag, backpack or should i just bring it in by hand like on a hook? Thank you for your input.

Will psych disqualify me?

I got fired when i was 20 for saying something that was considered offensive to gays. It wasn't extremely offensive but it was enough to get me fired. (And no I won't repeat it). Will that disqualify me? Should i admit to it?|

June Academy

is there only 1 training location upstate? I know you’re able to leave on weekends but if you don’t want to can you stay in the “dorm”?… I’m supposed to be going in June and I don’t drive so I’m trying to figure something out before hand, even if I have to take Amtrak and cab it or something

Employment record

I’ve had many contacted security jobs in my past before I settled in with the mta will this be looked at as bad employment history cause I didn’t say with many of them longer terms cause I was pursuing a career and not just a job.

Question

So i have my med and interview tomorrow at 6 in the morning on Monday for NYS Corrections. However i don’t have all the required documents as recently I’ve moved and I’ve seen to have lost them in transit, that being my birth certificate and my high school diploma. I have a photo of my SS though and I have my drivers license. What should I do?

Medical/Interview Portion of the Hiring Process

What takes place during the medical/interview portion of the hiring process. I was told that it goes from 0700-1400. What do you have to do during that time?
