My Experience Flying with a Firearm on American Airlines at JFK

I wanted to share my experience flying out of JFK on American Airlines with a declared pistol.  At JFK, American Airlines is in Terminal 8. I went to the American Airlines counter on the third floor. You cannot use the kiosk check-in when traveling with a firearm, so I went directly to the counter and told the agent I had a firearm to declare.

The airline staff called Port Authority Police. I waited about 25 minutes for them to arrive. Once they got there, they checked the case with my pistol to make sure it was not loaded and in a secure approved case, checked my ID, and matched the serial number on my pistol to my NYC and NY permits.  After that, Port Authority Police walked me over to TSA. TSA scanned the case, which took about 30 seconds, and then I was on my way.

When I arrived at my destination, I went to the special baggage pickup area. My bag came out at the same time as everyone else’s luggage. I showed my ID, took my bag, and left.  Overall, it was a pretty streamlined process and exactly what I expected. No issues at all. I also placed a GPS tag in my bag just in case, and I recommend others do the same.

Mamdani counts on increased handgun license revenue for $127b budget plan

Appears to be an increase in total revenue, not individual fees. Buried in the NY Post article linked below.

> Under the “savings” plan, officials merely re-estimated revenue they believed would be more accurate, including counting on millions of dollars more for handgun licenses, permit applications to the Landmark Preservation Commission and Taxi and Limousine Commission license renewal fees.

NYC 2A Lawyer - Law Office of Mirel Fisch

Hi everyone!

After quite some time, the Law Office of Mirel Fisch finally has a website!

www.NYC2ALawyer.com

It’s been a long time coming but I’m happy to announce Mirel’s website is finally live.

If you’ve been her client, please consider leaving her a review on her Google business page:

https://g.page/r/CZknLbd82Y9OEBM/review

As a reminder, Mirel Fisch handles all aspects of your Second amendment rights in NYC:

Article 78’s (for around 1/3 of the cost of other firms and having filed them for like 150 people)
Appeals (with an amazing win rate)
Suspensions and Revocations
Firearm seizures
Discriminatory licensure practices
Certificates of relief from disabilities
License applications (but only for applicants with background “red flags” requiring strategic presentation and explanation)

The Milani v NYC federal lawsuit challenging the NYPD unconstitutional delays is well into discovery. If you’d like to support the lawsuit, please consider donating to our GoFundMe as this lawsuit is out of pocket at this point.

Thank you everyone! (This post follows sub rule #6)

Tourists from different country

Question, are tourists from different country allowed to rent and shoot guns?

I know they are not allowed to rent pistols, they can shoot longs guns.

Also, is there any good gun range to rent in Long Island?

Living at 2 different addresses with a Premise Residence

Does anyone know how it works if I live at 2 different addresses during the year with a premise residence license? My main address is in Manhattan and that's the one that's on my license. But I spend 5-6 months of the year living at another address. Would I not be able to keep my gun there since it's not the address listed on my license? The second home isn't owned by me but I live there for the entire 5-6 months.

Requesting Updated Corrrect Safeguard Form

Hi everyone, I’m applying for the NYC Rifle/Shotgun permit and need the updated Safeguard / Acknowledgment of Person Agreeing to Safeguard Firearms form.

I saw an old post here, but the link takes me to a website, not the actual form. I also don’t see it in my NYPD portal Forms section and the form on the whole application is from 2010

Does anyone know where to download the current and correct official form?

NYC’s pistol permit budget math… does the defense’s case hold water?

I put together a speculative/investigative piece on NYC’s pistol permit backlog, and I’m curious what r/LIguns thinks.

Basic idea:

NYC’s new budget books $2.312M in additional pistol-license revenue.

At $340 per handgun license fee, that works out to around 6,800 additional fee-paid license events. But public reporting has shown thousands (8,400) already pending, lawsuits claiming long delays, and NYPD controls all the choke points — payment, fingerprints, investigator assignment, interviews, approvals, etc.

So, in the spirit of My Cousin Vinny:

Does the defense’s case hold water?

Is NYC just doing normal budget forecasting?

Or did they accidentally tell everyone, “Yeah, we see the demand… but we’re only budgeting around the bottleneck”? Or will the 2,400 of the applications waiting never be seen?

The Long Island angle is what makes it extra annoying: Nassau/Suffolk folks can already go through the county process, get licensed, and still have to deal with NYC Special Carry if they want NYC validity. Second fee. Second queue. Second round of “please wait while your rights are being processed.”

Article here:
https://nysafeinc.com/2026/05/13/nyc-pistol-permit-bottleneck-budget-ccw-delay/

It’s not legal advice. It’s more of a “let’s look at the budget math, the lawsuits, and the public docs and see if this smells funny” piece.

Thoughts?

Safeguard form question

Hi I had my dad fill out the safeguard form. I saw a part that said Application / License Number but I don’t see an application number on Nypd portal. Do I just leave that blank ?

Firearm colors

Just want to say I'm very surprised with all the lawsuits I see being filed with all the states and that fpa or any of these other law firms that they have not filed any against nyc regarding certain colors not being allowed. Just think its ridiculous that we cant get fde or bronze but we can get odg even though our little military figures as kids were green smh. Meanwhile if you live elsewhere in ny besides the city you can get whatever you want. I thought and could swear I seen a while back which I thought was interesting that the LGBT community had filed a suit against firearm colors but haven't heard anything about it.
