Unknown mechanics from an old music box

Hi everyone, I’ve got a bunch of old mechanics from music boxed. I’m building new boxes for them then laser engraving decals that suit the music along with the tunes title and also what timber the box was made with. So far I have been able to identify all the songs, except this one. Is it familiar to anyone ?

Much appreciated if you can help identify this song

It appears to be Japanese, but I don't know if the song is Japanese. I looked around a bit for common songs with no match yet. The song sounded so interesting to me so I picked it up at a garage sale. Thanks

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone here might be able to help me track down a very special music box that belonged to my grandmother. It means a lot to me, and I’ve been trying to find the exact same one to purchase.

It’s a miniature ceramic/porcelain music box with:
A mother swan with raised wings
A small baby swan/duck that spins or “dances”
It plays “Swan Lake”

I’ve been searching using the name:
“Miniature Mom & Dancing Baby Swan Duck Music Box – Plays Swan Lake”
…but I haven’t had any luck finding the exact one.
I’ve attached photos of it here. (This was the last photo I have of it)

This piece is incredibly sentimental to me—I used to sit and watch it as a little kid and was completely mesmerized by it. It reminds me so much of my grandmother, and I would really love to find one again. She is no longer here and I would love to have something that reminds me of her.

If anyone recognizes it, knows the brand, or has seen one for sale anywhere (eBay, Etsy, antique shops, etc.), I would be so, so grateful.
Thank you so much for even reading this 🤍

Can someone identify this music box tune?

Hello! My mother gave me some years ago, a music box that I absolutely loved. I loved it so much that I transferred the song over to a second life music box. It has since been lost, and I am hoping someone can identify the song, so I can look into acquiring another!

Music mechanics not working

My grandpa gave me this musical decoration and up until a few months ago, it worked amazingly. Unfortunately, it was involved in a fall and seems to have sustained a fair bit of damage. I tried to fix it cosmetically as much as I could but now the music mechanics aren’t working.

It’ll wind up as much as it can, go for a couple seconds and stop. The little fan spins and then stops. I don’t know if something was knocked loose or if the fall permanently damaged it.

I’m not sure if it can be fixed or if I’m just not equipped to do it, but I’m desperate for any help.

If this doesn’t belong here I apologize. I’m not sure where to go or who to ask.

Trying to find a picture

I found this music box and I’m curious what the top previously looked like. If anyone knows do let me know.

Hi there

I'm just curious what do you do with your music boxes once you get them / find them?

  • Do you buy music boxes for yourself? If so, do you give them a place of honour in your home afterwards?
  • Do you collect them? Where do you keep the collection?
  • Do you buy them to fix them & resell them?
  • Do you play them to your kids?

I design & sell music boxes and right now I have a small one next to my desk (the one in the photo. I don't play it often though, but I sort of like it as decoration.

Any idea how I can adjust the height of this umbrella?

I found this music box about a week ago. The white cat in the front moves up and down and the umbrella spins, both functioning correctly. However, the umbrella is a bit too high and gets caught on the upper orange cats tail for about 1/4 of the rotation, stopping the umbrella and risking it breaking. I have to unstick the umbrella by hand when it happens. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can lower the umbrella without breaking the box? Or should I just accept the fact that I’ll just have to be super careful and baby it when turning it on. Only way I could access the mechanics would be by softening and unsticking glue on the bottom, but I worry about accidentally messing with or breaking the white cat in the process.

Metal jewelry box/music box: any info? USA

It’s quite heavy, music box component doesn’t work. Also if anyone knows why there is a hook on the back hinge, I would love to know 👀

Hi

My grandmother wanted to repair this music box she got from my Grandpa's grandma. There should be something sitting on top but we have no idea what. Grandmother never saw it. She thinks it was made around the 1920s. It is made out of metal and a wood base.

I am trying to find any info on it. On the bottom we think it says manufactured by splendid novelty company, Toronto Canada. We cannot find any record of such a company.

Does anyone recognize the music box, the potential writing on the bottom or the song?

Hi! I’m attaching a recording of my grandmother’s music box — it’s a Sankyo movement, number B 43 on the cylinder. The melody is slow and nostalgic, like a lullaby. Shazam and SoundHound couldn’t recognize it. Any ideas? It means a lot to me 🎵

PLEEEEASE I SPEND 6 HOURS SEARCHING

I'm preparing this beautiful Lador music box for my mother's eightieth birthday. I have lightly cleaned the exterior, careful not to remove the patina from the metal, and likewise, cleaned the velvet of dust and lint. I've also cleaned, then lubricated the movement mainspring with clock oil.

What I'd love this group's assistance with, though, is two areas—

First: what's the name of the tune, please? I've tried every sound-sampling software and website that I can find, but nowhere do I find reliable, relevant results. Any ideas? Do any folks here recognize the tune? Or, possibly point me to a search engine where I can make some headway? Thanks!

Second: When I search for Lador music boxes, I find them to be distinctly different from what I have here. Do folks here have a working knowledge of this who might point me to a particular decade?

Oh, I just realized that I never showed the musical movement. I'll follow-up with a picture after I post this. BTW, the movement has no markings anywhere to indicate manufacture, save for "Lador, Switzerland".

Thank you for any help with this information you can provide! 🙂
