Best movies for a person who barely watches any movies
I have a friend coming over that wants to see some movies, so I need to know what are the best movies. Assume he's only watched Disney movies, but is open to anything

Hello! Looking for LGBT film recommendations, aside from the ones I've already seen (listed below). Lighthearted recommendations are especially welcome!
I've seen...
Totally Fucked Up
But I'm A Cheerleader
The Color Purple
Moonlight
Paris Is Burning
Brokeback Mountain
Call Me By Your Name
I'm going camping, please suggest a horror movie I can watch alone when it's dark in the forest.
And I know it's not the subreddit theme, but books are also welcome to read by the fire.
I prefer psychological and cosmic horror.
What's a movie/movies I have to watch before turning 18? I want to rewatch some of my favorite movies from childhood, like Tangled, and Soul, but I also want to watch some new ones that I haven't seen that are kind of relevant to turning 18, or teach a good life lesson. I have 4 days, so if you have any recommendations let me know!
I recently posted asking for disturbing movie recommendations and reddit didn’t disappoint. Was hoping I could get some help in suggestions for sad movies this time around — I should mention that I watch a lot of movies and tonight I am only looking for movies that are in English (no hate, just have to multitask). Some I have seen and find particularly sad are:
Manchester by the Sea
Dear Zachary
Aftersun
Never Let Me Go
My Girl
Beautiful Boy
Blue Valentine
Eternal Sunshine
Thanks in advance!
In short, movies about loosing the love of your life and the grief that comes with it... I need to cry !!
recently posted a video analyzing where i think movies are now and where we are headed! i think covid has changed a lot of the industry but will the film industry pivot as audiences have? so many people stay home now compared to when i was a kid. what do you think is missing from the modern film industry? https://youtu.be/VhLpBj844Wc?si=3ABPT4l1KM9HU3\_a
Hey, me and my friends have been doing an event at my place we called "movie nights" for like 2 years. We kept making a tier list and updated it with every meeting. What do you think of it? Do you have suggestions for something to watch?
I don’t mind if there’s a romance subplot but I am tired of only seeing romcoms. Personally I would categorise these movies to be feel-good, I am looking for similar stuff:
- Forrest Gump
- Free Guy
- Little miss sunshine
- Green book
- Rain man
- The Martian
just recently watched Project Hail Mary in cinema it was awesome. Feel-good sci-fi also welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Just as the title suggests, I'm looking for this type of movie. I don't see it much but recently watched Companion where this happened with two of the goofy characters and really enjoyed it.
Extra points if they’re on Netflix, YouTube, or prime video
Edit- I’m writing these all down so I WILL be watching
similar to movies such as
magazine dreams
taxi driver
and Batman the jokers type of life ect
those movies that cover a male going a bit insane from isolation and dedicating themselves to something
I realize I’m kind of all over the place, really I’m searching for anything with a haunting sense of unease & isolation. Bonus points if there’s a happy ending
Five stars!
Every few years I rewatch The Princess Bride followed by Stardust in what I consider a “perfect pairing”.
What would you suggest as a third to match the first two?
I am looking for movies with these types of aesthethics, doesn't need to be futuristic, just need to have these neon lights and electronics and this feeling of overcrowded and cramped environment. Any suggestions?
Looking for some good movie to watch, either something epic and "big" like Dune, something with complex story or concepts, dystopian/cyberpunk stuff or something dealing with time travel. I feel like I've already seen most good movies and can't seem to find anything else new to watch.
Recommendations must be sci-fi or dystopian and high budget, secondary genre can be any of the ones that match movies shown below, not interested in non-sci fi movies.
Below some movies I've seen (so I don't get recommendations for stuff I've already seen):
- Dune part 1/2 (loved) and the OG (not as great)
- Space Oddysey 2001 (liked)
- All of Star Wars (movies, plus all tv shows, plus animated) (OG and Prequels liked, new ones meh, some tv shows ok, some meh)
- All of Star Trek (all modern and most old stuff plus tv shows) (liked the new ones, didn't like the old stuff as much, tv shows too slow paced)
- The Martian (liked)
- Gravity (liked)
- Moon (liked)
- All of Back to the Future (liked all of BTTF)
- Looper (kinda meh)
- Primer (would be great but too low budget)
- Avengers Endgame (time travel messy and not following one specific rule so meh)
- X-Men Days of Future Past (much better since more consistent, but don't get me started on X-Men movies timeline, utter mess)
- Edge of Tomorrow (average)
- Groundhog Day (liked but not very sci-fi, well not all actually)
- The Time Machine (liked)
- Predestination (loved)
- All of Nolans movies (loved most, but Intersellar by far best, Tenet solid second for confusing concept, tie with Inception)
- Lost (tv show, loved)
- All of Alien/Prometheus (liked the Prometheus ones and Alien 1, 2, rest kinda meh, but new ones bit better than 3 for sure)
- All of Predator (not a big fan at all, 1 kinda ok, rest meh, new one kinda ok but tad too silly)
- All of Terminator movies (1,2 great, rest meh)
- Avatar 1/2 (visuals great but story meh, average)
- 28 Days Later (loved, sequel kinda meh but not too bad, hated the new one)
- Alita Battle Angel (loved)
- The Maze Runner (surprisingly liked after disappointment of the one below)
- Divergent (super meh)
- Hunger Games (liked, except for the new one, meh)
- Children of Men (loved)
- Dark City (loved)
- Matrix (loved)
- Snowpiercer (movie, loved, tv show, didn't get around to watching yet)
- V for Vendetta (loved)
- Equilibrium (loved)
- Blade Runner (original and 2049) (loved both)
- Elysium (liked)
- Chappie (liked, but hated the inclusion of Die Antwoord)
- District 9 (loved)
- The Book of Eli (liked)
- THX 1138 (liked)
- Surrogates (liked
- A Clockwork Orange (loved)
- Total Recall (meh)
- The Island (liked but I blame ScarJo and Ewan McGregor lol)
- Dredd (loved)
- Ex Machina (loved)
- I, Robot (meh)
- Transcendence (average)
I'm seeking some abominations that combine the concept of horror with unintentional humor. I laugh at The Exorcist 2 and I thought that the "jumpscare" in Jason Takes Manhattan where he appears behind the people was funny. I'm not seeking things that are bad in the way that The Wicker Man is or the Poltergeist remake if that makes sense.
