First time riding a dirtbike. Want to get into racing eventually. Any tips?

I know these clips are short and aren't the best but looking for some pointers. Mainly on jumping, also tips on how to not get whisky throttled because I felt myself getting it a few times. Thanks

Help! NC Beginner Moto Mom

My 12 almost 13yr old has been riding over 2yr but just on bike trails and our land. And recently switch from 110 2 stroke to 150 4.

He wanted to potentially try moto racing. I have driven over 1.5hr to first watch a race, then 2 separate track practices…we were told just get out there and do it! So we had his first race yesterday. Needless to say I HAVE NO FN CLUE ABOUT ANY OF THIS!! I signed him up for 85cc class. He rides a 150cc. I was asked if he can jump…I was like yes….? So not beginner….As soon as the race started we could tell we messed up. Clearly he is a beginner. He was a whole lap behind everyone and they even stopped it at his 3rd lap of 4.

  1. When you are asked can he jump-does that mean like clear an entire mound to another…? They said if he jumped in the beginners class he would be disqualified.

  2. If he was signed up as not a beginner at one track in a certain series….are we allowed to sign him up as a beginner at a different track/series? He shouldn’t be penalized because I don’t know what I’m doing.

Used Pro’s Bike- Advice?

Recently traded my Talaria MX4 for this 2017 FC250. Even trade, no cash. Turns out it was Josh Hansens Supercross bike in 2017. Motor completely rebuilt by Twisted Development, map switch deleted, no idea on ECU. Not sure if it was a factory ride. Anyone have experience with used Pro racer’s bikes? Would love any tips on maintenance and such. This is my first full size fuel injected bike. Coming off a 2020 CRF150RB. I work on my own bikes so not a stranger to wrenching and basic maintenance.

Edit: I was able to contact the original owner who bought it from Hansen. Twisted development worked on the head and transmission when he raced. He only had 4 or 5 races on it before he got hurt. Ported head and polished trans. When the guy bought it he had twisted development add a 283cc big bore. The ECU is stock but tuned by TD. This is actually nice since I am nowhere near the rider that Hansen is. For us noobs tuned stock>pro race tune.

All in all I think I got a good bike. Recommended Motorex 10w50 oil and air filter every 5 hours. Reassuring to know that it was built by TD and not in someone’s garage. Thanks everyone!

I think I struck gold (it’s autographed)

Didn’t realize it was autographed till I was researching it on my way home. This is from when he jumped the 10 Kenworth Trucks at the Kansas State Fair in 1971

Jett Lawrence 🇦🇺 vs Haiden Deegan 🇺🇸

I’ve noticed that people are putting all their faith in Jett. Most people think he’ll be faster, but what makes you think that?

I’m not trying to defend Deegan, I just want to understand why so many consider Jett the better rider

In the 250 class, based on the stats, Deegan actually dominated more than Jett

Is motor cross a good sport for beginners?

Two days ago I visited a sports store to buy a motor cross bike for my cousin’s weekend rides. I wanted something fast and strong. But when I saw the bikes I felt disappointed. Most looked too light and some seemed fragile. I could not pick one confidently.

I visited another store. Some bikes were sturdy but small. Some were stylish but expensive. Some were strong but had small tires. I remembered buying a bike last month that broke after few rides. That made me hesitate even more.

To check more variety and options while scrolling many online marketplaces including alibaba I found many motor cross bikes. Some were strong and fast. Some were simple and affordable. Some had new designs and features. Seeing all these options made me excited but also confused.

Now I am thinking should I buy this motor cross bike online for variety or check a local store to feel the quality first? What would you do in my place?

Dirt Bike Storage Help

I’m currently in the process of moving and unfortunately losing the garage where I store my KX250, YZ450, and street bike. I’m brainstorming the best way to keep them secure at the new place, which has a backyard and a driveway that runs alongside the house. I am moving to a subdivision but is still in a city area.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar spot. Here are the options I’m weighing:

1. Build or buy a prefab shed

  • Pros: Cost-effective, relatively easy to set up.
  • Cons: Maneuvering bikes into the backyard is difficult with the gate, might be more exposed to theft if installed in the driveway, difficult to remove at the end of the lease

2. Buy an Enclosed Trailer

  • Pros: Plenty of space, doubles as a way to haul the bikes to the track
  • Cons: Tow-away theft, I already own a truck and would rather not tow

3. Rent a Storage Unit

  • Pros: Most secure option and keeps the driveway/yard clear.
  • Cons: Monthly recurring cost, adding a second stop to every ride is a major inconvenience

4. Buy a Van

  • Pros: Multi-use for camping and moto-trips, generally feels more secure than a trailer
  • Cons: Highest upfront cost, redundant since I already have a truck

If anyone has used one of these methods long-term or has another solution would love to hear. Thanks in advance!

Deegan vs Jett

Anyone else use smxmuse.com? I used the comparison thing to make this. Surprised to see Deegan has Jett covered in 250 mx stats. Should be a fun summer

Collare protettivo o no?

Hi I recently started motocross, for now I’m training in an ‘enduro’ track with dunes and low jumps, but I think that soon I will go to the actual track, So I would like to have the right protections what do you think of the protective collars? I’ve heard conflicting opinions some say they serve to avoid serious injuries, but others say that for a trivial fall you break your collarbone with that on, so I’m a little indecisive

I saw these online that would be good for my budget, I would like to have the opinion of someone more experienced thanks

2023 CRF 450r or Husky 300TC?

I’m looking at two different dirtbikes and trying to decide which to buy. Both have 0 hours and are “brand new.” They’re similarly priced.

I never ride on tracks, mainly trails and open fields and whatnot. I want the most amount of power possible, and riding 450’s doesn’t tend to make my arms tired.

I’ve never owned a 2 stroke so I’m weary, but I know these newer 300’s are very raved about. I’m curious what everyone else thinks, though.

P.S. I know this is a motocross sub, but I posted here because I know you guy know what you’re talking about.
