Randomized Song Discussion #158: And My Baby's Gone

I am picking a random song (using a random number generator) from the Moody Blues albums from The Magnificent Moodies through December (plus a few non-album tracks thrown in).

Today’s song is the 1965 Laine/Pinder B-Side, And My Baby's Gone, later released on The Magnificent Moodies CD issues.

What are your thoughts on this song?

Nights in White Satin emerges as the winner, having to face two opponents in the finals. Even the combined weight of Question and The Story in Your Eyes couldn’t take down a giant.

Thank you to everyone who voted. Thank you for all the interesting discussions. My knowledge of my favorite band is deepened for listening to how these songs resonate with you all personally.

I’ll take a 2 week break before jumping into the sadness bracket, methinks.

Ach, maybe this all seemed inevitable. But I held a lot of songs up to scrutiny in this 5 week exercise, imagining that I’d vote for Question over Nights in the end. But when art moves beyond beautiful and becomes sublime, well… that’s hard to quantify, and impossible to ignore.

Moody Blues - encore: White Christmas (NYC 2003)

I know we discussed this track from their studio album December on another Moody Blues thread , but what do you think of this rare live performance? I saw them sing this live back in 2003 and thought it sounded much better than the studio track from December. What do you think?
