Does anyone road cycle in Michigan?

Hello everyone! Just moved back to the Detroit area and looking to connect with some local riders.

I'm do a lot long-distance road cycling and usually ride at a 17+ mph pace, would love to find a group that pushes the pace a bit.

That said, I'm also always down for more casual rides and just getting out with good people.

I'm also travel with my bike for rides/events around the US but I'd really love to start riding more consistently with others locally too.

Planning to pick up a solid gravel bike soon, so definitely interested in any gravel groups.

If anyone has recommendations or rides I could join, l'a really appreciate it. Also happy to connect on Strava: https://strava.app.link/VoytbYOCw2b

Groups Tri-City Area (Bay City, Midland, Saginaw)

Where2ride probably isn't the right tag but curious if anyone knows of any groups that get together for rides in the Tri-City area? I've done some googling and came across some facebooks but they look old (the page, not the riders). Just looking to find some people to potentially ride with in the area. I've been unsuccessful in getting my core group of friends into riding their bikes "long" distances.

Burns Road Northwest of Midland?

I’m usually looking for somewhere to ride heading up north or on my way back. I noticed “Burns Road” segments on Strava. The area looks pretty big and has a lot of activity on the heat map. I can’t find any information on the place. Does anyone have any information on the area and is it worth the side trip?

Mike Levine Lakelands Trail

First time out on any gravel this year. Weather hasn’t been cooperating with my days off.

I got a ride on the Larkspur in, and as soon as I started trying to practice on the Nimbus (this is something I’ve been meaning to do for a few years now) it started to pour…so that got cut short.

Still a pretty good day though!

Question about bicycle insurance?

Okay so to start off I don't drive not for any reason other than not liking to drive.

So I got a question and I've only been able to find one answer to and I'm honestly not even sure if it's legit. So I have a few bikes and lately I have been putting some major money into one of them. Just fixing them up. Buying new parts and getting the bike exactly how I want. So as I said I've put some money into these bikes with new parts, not home upgrades and I'm wondering is it a thing for bicycle insurance in Michigan? The only company I seem to find that offers bicycle insurance is Velosuranace. And I've never heard of them before. So I'm just wondering if it's legit or if people have bicycle insurance with another company. I've just been nervous that if my bicycle gets hit or stolen that I won't be able to recoup on anything. So if anybody has any ideas or an input it would tremendously be appreciated.

Looking for a chill race day? The Beaver Dash Bash is back! (Lapeer, MI – Sept 19)

If you’re looking for a race that’s more about the "post-ride beers and hanging with friends" vibe than elite-level stress, you need to check out the Beaver Dash Bash at the Oakdale Trails in Lapeer.

The Oakdale system is perfect for a fast-but-fun day. It’s definitely beginner-to-intermediate friendly, plenty of flow and enough singletrack to keep it interesting without feeling like you're fighting for your life. Whether you’re trying your first race or just want to rip through the woods with your buddies, this is the one.

What’s new for 2026:

We’re mixing things up this year with some fresh categories for the competitive (and the specialized) riders:

  • Elite Open Category (22 Mile): For those who want to see where they stack up against the fastest in the area.
  • Single Speed Open (22 Mile): One gear, no fears.
  • Fatbike Open (11 Mile): Bringing the big tires out for a single-lap sprint.

E-Bike Pioneers:

We’re proud to be one of the longest-running MTB races in Michigan to offer a dedicated Class 1 E-Bike category. If you’re riding pedal-assist, you’ve got a home here and a bracket to compete in.

The Vibe:

The best part is honestly the "Bash" part of the name. We’ve got:

  • A craft beer tent 🍺
  • Food trucks 🌮
  • Cornhole and a Disc Golf challenge
  • A great community atmosphere that supports Crank 4 a Cause

Grab your bike, bring your friends, and come hang out in the "DeMille Bowl."

Date: Saturday, September 19, 2026

Location: Oakdale Trails, Lapeer, MI

Registration/Info:https://www.crank4acause.org/beaver-dash

See you on the trails!

Mailing gear/ dry food?

So I'm going on a bikepacking trip soon and I'm wondering if I can mail out packages to various cities that I'll be stopping at along the way and be able to pick them up at the post office or however works. I don't even know if it's possible. It's something that I thought about and I assume it's possible but I can't find anything about doing it anywhere. So depending on how things go I may have to go down to the post office and ask them. With all this being said, I'm just wondering everybody's opinion if they've ever done it before or if it would even be worth doing. Thank you

Barry Roubaix 2026 was awesome!

36 miles of peanut butter dirt roads, brutal gravel, and pure suffering.

Managed to be a little over 20 minutes faster than last year. Hoping to see a sub 2:15 if next year is dry!
