Finally I can rinse out my mouth after finishing Prime 4. Sadly there is no manual in the case.

Did any one else notice it says "samus | varia 4002" at the top of the visor. I started my second playthrough and just noticed it, even though it literally has been in front of my face.
I genuinely think that this game is easily top 5 metroidvanias/metroid-likes ever PERIOD. If not the best. The visuals, the level design, the graphics, the gameplay, the story, the dialogues, the moments... Genuinely a master class of the genre. Going back to collect 100% of the items in every area was so much fun. And, btw, one of the greatest things that i hated and also loved the most of this title were the freaking speed boost puzzles. I really struggled with a lot of them, but thankfully having played Fusion like 3 times way before this REALLY helped me to go through the whole game and his crazy ass puzzles and challenges. What's the puzzle that was the most difficult to you during your first playthrough? Let me know!
The Nintendo Today app has been putting out two pieces of Metroid-related content every day for the last few days.
We know Mercury Steam are working on two titles, we just don’t know what they are, but considering their history with the franchise it’s reasonable to guess one of them is a 2D Metroid.
There’s also been a lot of whisperings of a Super Metroid remake (though I don’t buy too much into leaks unless they’re from Nate the Hate). I know it feels a bit soon after Prime 4, but Nintendo did previously release two Metroid games on the same day (Prime and Fusion), so who knows how much they really care about cannibalising that market share.
Super Metroid is seen by many as masterpiece, so making a worthy remake would be very difficult.
Some people say that it doesnt need a remake because trying to modernise any part of the game, including small details like the pixel art style and the wall jump controls etc, would detract from what made it so perfect in the first place. And that if a remake was made it would just get overshadowed by the original.
But if a remake somehow manages to be better than the original in every way, becoming the new definitive version to play that story, the original would become overshadowed and lose value.
So to that I say that a remake should just give up on being a remaster, and try be more of a retelling. Have a super remake sacrifice on being a completely faithful remake to capitalise on new features. Make it feel different, give it its own identity while still having the soul of super metroid.
The locations, music, basic world structure and story should remain the same, but the way the player progresses through the world should feel different. Make the game a little more combat oriented so the melee counter fits in. Make Samus’ movement be more fluid, though not too much like dread. Wouldnt feel right if she moves in super like she does in dread (not saying i dont like dread’s movement). And maybe tweaking the room layouts to better accommodate those changes.
Super metroid remake should try to be great in its own way, while letting the original keep its glory.
It'd be pretty cool if Samus looked a little fucked up with the like, 3 different species DNA just in her body.
after finishing prime 4, i couldnt resist the urge to play dread!! i loved samus returns and all the footage i saw of this game made me want to play it even more😭😭 and i LOVED it. i dont know if i would put it over super metroid or not, i think i had more fun with this one lol. so anyway, with the recent layoffs at mercurysteam, what do you think metroid 6 will be like??
It was peak.
Also I was confused, but what was with the “zero mission” art that pops up in the end? Did I miss something?
After reading several comments in this subreddit about the different ways to defeat Kraid in Dread, I wanted to see if I could pull off that flash shift attack.
Coming soon :) doing it in Blender!
Just a quick-ish doodle of a more relaxed Samus posing for a fan's photo. I like to remember that Samus is only really stern while she's on a mission and is overall much more relaxed off-duty (ex: Fusion and Zero Mission endings).

At this point, all that's left of the game besides the Great Mines is some endgame cleanup. While I still like Metroid Prime 4 and think the posts calling it the "worst Metroid game ever made" are a tad hyperbolic (Other M and Federation Force still exist, people), it's bar none the worst Prime game and a large downgrade over what came prior. Even if they have more divisive elements, like Prime 1's artifact backtracking and Prime 2's brutal difficulty and constantly switching between the light and dark world, they at least have way higher highs and much more intricate design. Prime 4 is just...consistently average at everything it does, and nothing more. Like a student who does the bare minimum to get passing grades but never truly excels in any way.
The gameplay is fun and solid, the environments look nice, it probably has the most impressive visuals of any Switch game so far and it has the same skeleton as prior Prime games. But some of the design decisions in this game truly has me scratching my head. What makes Metroid games the most satisfying is how you slowly get stronger as the game progresses, but the way you get the upgrades in this game just feel super strange. Like, why do you not get the thunder shot until the THIRD visit to Volt Forge? Plus, the environments are just so linear and funnel you down the same narrow path along with constantly holding your hand with the NPCs, which makes what could have been otherwise memorable environments just kinda feel forgettable. Like, this game goes against the idea of what a Metroidvania is, let alone any Metroid game, by removing the feeling of discovery to give you baby's first Metroid game. It's even MORE linear than Prime 3, which was already the most linear Prime game, which is truly saying something. The only area that remotely stands out to me so far is Ice Belt, because it doesn't hold your hand much, lets you get the tokens in any order and you backtrack through the area in a really cool way (pun fully intended.) I just wish the rest of them were more like it.
And while the green crystal upgrades and overworld are good ideas on paper, the overworld makes getting between areas way too tedious (why there's no fast travel in this game is beyond me. They really blueballed me hard with that "teleporter" chip) and the crystal upgrades are kinda underwhelming. More damage with your primary fire is good, but then you just get a slightly better control beam, something you barely use outside of certain puzzles or bosses, and then a tracker for the remaining crystals, which are nowhere near as exciting. What about taking less damage due to enemies doing a crapton of it in this game? Or even giving you a new ability, like???? Plus, Plus, the random NPC chatter you can't turn off is beyond annoying. MYLES PLEASE SHUTUP I KNOW WHERE I NEED TO GO JUST LET ME EXPLORE DAMMIT. And for being marketed as the new big bad and even getting an Amiibo, Sylux barely shows up and is a large downgrade over previous villains like Mother Brain, Ridley, Dark Samus and Raven Beak.
Sorry for the long wall of text lol. When this game first came out I waited a while until the discourse died down to play it so that it didn't color my enjoyment of the game. And while I do still enjoy it as a playable, functioning FPS game...idk, as a Metroid game, it's probably the most underwhelming one I've played since Other M (even if it's still considerably better.) At this state, I probably wouldn't give it higher than a 7/10. Which is almost unacceptable for a game we waited this long for. I just really hope Retro takes the feedback to largely improve upon the next game, since they can do better and have proven as such in the past with the OG Prime Trilogy.
I first discovered that Samus was a girl about 20 years ago after beating Prime 1, and with all the overly sexualized zero suit memes, I now can't unsee the total "female" in every game I play now. I made this short compilation where she walks with a clear female swish in her hips.
