Career advice EDC or SMC

Need advise lang kasi sa SMC, project engineer ang magiging role ko if ever and tumawag yung hr na possible next week magkaroon na ko ng starting date. Almost 3 months ako naghintay sa application ko sa SMC and now lang ako possible mabigyan ng starting date. Malaki yung offer sa SMC and Madami benefits.

Question

Hi po, is pursuing ME is still worth it? I am currently taking bs mathematics in a state u and gusto ko po lumipat ng ME kaso nag aalala ako sa job market eh, I am a female and marami akong nababasa na mahirap if babae ka sa field na toh. Should I shift or just stay in bs math and aim for data science field?

Starting salary range

I feel like the starting salary range in our field is a big scam. In this economy, it's kinda exploitative to still give 18k-22k salary range especially for a degree which some people took for 4-6+ years at may board exam pa pagkatapos.

This is just disrespectful of our profession, lalo na other programs na wala ngang board exam can get a starting pay of around 25k-40k that easily. Nakakainis lang na they normalize this and say "just do it for the passion" when in reality, passion can only get you so far lalo na kung wala ka nang pera pangtulong sa pamilya mo. The passion part of this profession has been used nang paulit-ulit to the point na gasgas na gasgas na tapos ang bagal din ng salary increase.

This is such an interesting and good profession but if Im going to stay in the Philippines, sadly, I think I'd have to shift careers.

With that being said, any career recommendations?

First Gen EDC Cadet Engineer

I recently took the technical assessment this week. And if I may ask, does anyone know gaano katagal yung cadetship program?

thanks

Edit: Another question, ano po kaya yung magiging role after the training?

For fresh board passer

Hi! I just passed the Mechanical Engineering Board Exam last Feb this 2026 and actually, I'm contemplating right now kasi nasa Cavite na ako. I thought if nandito na ako, everything will be easy for me sa applying. Hindi pa rin pala. But it's okay because I'm not planning or seeing myself naman na mag work in Iloilo.

Actually, may pinang applyan na ko. And ang baba ng sweldo. I negotiate. Yung isa, from 18k ginawang 19k. Super baba para sa akin so I reject the offer.

May pinang applyan naman ako ngayon but wala pang mga reply from them.

So ayun, okay lang ba na mag BPO muna ako sa Makati so that maka change nako ng loc ko (at magka bh nako if ma hire) while waiting??

I need your advice, ates, kuyas🙏🏻 Wala akong mapagsabihan ng situation ko.

I appreciate your response. 🩷

OJT Advice???

Hello everyone! I'm a 3rd year mechanical engineering student na mago-OJT ngayong summer.

I heard most students opt for power plants, construction, manufacturing plants, etc. While I don't dislike these, what i really want is the automotive industry, the reason i studied ME in the first place.

Any advice to your poor junior here? Huhuhu I'm considering applying to car dealerships, since thats as close as i can get, since nasa Iloilo city ako, but i wish to hear kung ano pong opinyon nyo.

Any feedback is much appreciated! Thank you in advance!🙏🏽💙 (Actually posted this in a fb group pero d inapprove ng admin)edit:na approve na pala hahaha my bad

i need good advice

good day engineers!

a.) ive got an offer po sa isang japanese company, cadet design engineer (mech/piping dept) in industrial and waste-to-energy plants, 27k salary, 3 yrs bind, sa makati

b.) meanwhile, im up for final evaluation and interview sa schneider electric graduate program next week, altho wala pa offer i think my odds are good (75/25), based sa research ko range is round 25-30k, 3 yrs bind also, sa rosario cavite

tanggapin ko na ba si option a or should i wait for option b? for context, im a fresh grad newly license rin na taga manila. i need honest thoughts and advice po especially from experienced engineers here, on how to decide between these two path/industry.
