Yesterday i finally did my interior swap on my 2.8 4m. Wanted to get rid of tan carpet and plastics. I am keeping my tan leather seats. Door cards need to be remade aswell. I will be using black door card with tan leather inserts!
I replaced the water outlet housing yesterday which had been leaking for a long time already. Looking into the engine bay below that I could see a lot of old antifreeze down there so today I took an almost empty bottle of dawn and filled it up with water to dilute the soap down, then sprayed it down onto the old antifreeze and then immediately used a power washer (well above the spot so not high pressure up close on the area) just to hose out all the old grime and soap. Now that I’ve been driving at work all night third gear is really having an issue getting into gear. It wasn’t having this issue at all before so I googled and it’s says I may have washed away the lubrication on the cables for the gears and suggested white lithium grease to relubricate them. My question is where exactly do I spray that? Pic to show the cables

Not bad for the worst engine. Wondering what anyone else with the 1.4 has managed?
Also, the engine light is intermittent EGR. Replaced EGR and code still shows :/ any tips?
I have a MK4 Golf 1.9 TDI 110bhp, 1998, AHF engine.
Sometimes when idling engine starts to shake. Usually happens when I start moving, press on the clutch and let the engine idle while the car is still moving. After the car stops, the engine continues to work normally. Also shakes when turning car off. Attached a video of this being the case.
Had all three engine mounts replaced but problem persists.
Don't know what the problem is. The car doesn't do this when i drive it. Only when it's idling.
I had some people say bad flywheel or bad injectors?

Did anyone had problems with the injection pump on 1.9 engines? Mine randomly started leaking after 200k km🤨
I hadn't shown it yet. Well, here's the little 1J1. There's still work to be done under the hood, but after replacing the injectors, spark plugs, air filter, oil and filter, power steering fluid (it had the generic red one, not the green), cleaning the intake (throttle body), and adjusting it mechanically, the car has made a huge difference!
Now it doesn't have an unstable idle, it doesn't rattle, it doesn't smell of gasoline, and it doesn't seem to be leaking fuel into the crankcase (it used to). It's smoother, runs much more efficiently, and is faster, as much as is possible with a 1.4 16v...
The next step is to check all the sensors with a multimeter. If any are damaged (which doesn't seem likely), replace them, and check the vacuum line. Then connect an OBD2 scanner, and finish tuning the engine. Then I'll replace the silent blocks and remove the air conditioning compressor.
From here I'll start with the aesthetics, weight reduction, bodywork and paint, and some interior work... There's still a way to go, but mechanically I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and that gives me strength.
Anyone cut off the back box off their 1.8t and ran it like that?

Just looking for a cheap easy way to make it sound more fun until I can get a 3’ down pipe and exhaust when I go for 300
Also was wondering if I should throw 5% tint in the back and 70 in the front or do 20 back 70 front so it’s less drastic
Hello VW family.
I have a VW Golf MK4 with a 1.4 engine and I noticed that it is very low torque when in first gear. I've driven a polo 6n1 before but also used to driving mostly japanese cars like toyota, hondas and mitsubishis that did not have this problem.
So basically in first gear, the car needs like 2000RPM or more uphill to get moving and threatens to stall but once it gets moving 2nd, 3rd gears and so on are super smooth plus the car really goes.
Is that torque problem, that is 2000+RPM needed in first gear normal for that specific car compared to other cars that need 1200 to 1500RPM?
Just wanted to share. I could not get the exact moment on camera, I do not like handling smartphones while driving. 2000 Golf MK4 1.9tdi AGR with chip tuning up to 115cp.

I pulled the trigger on some e code headlights last month. Their site indicated that they were on backorder up until February previously but that they would start shipping them some time in March.
I had no issue waiting but at least wanted a status update so I reached out to them 10 days after I placed the order and it's been crickets. That was almost a month ago now so I just filed a dispute with my bank.
curious what anyone else's experience with them has been?
the item is still listed on their site with the same backorder note btw. seems like they should take it down or at least contact people who buy them letting them know what the deal is.

Has anyone heard or even better, saw an issue where the car starts normaly first try when the engine is ''cold'' but wont wont start after its been turned off? There have been 2 instances where the engine turned off by itself after it has been left to idle for a few minutes, but i cant reproduce that.
So far we have tried:
-changing the engine air filter
-changed the engine oil + filter
-changed the spark plugs
-coolant is ok
-battery has charge and we tried with a different one
-tested at room temperatures
Car specs:
- VW Golf mk4
- 1998 year
- 1.6 engine
- 74KW / 100hp
Any help is apretiated.
(Ignore my bad shifts I’m 2 weeks into learning manual in) in the first vid sounds normal second one (sound so so so good but obnoxious) it’s noticeably louder and had a lil metallic noise while engine braking pretty sure it’s a leak or lose exhaust.
Mine is cracked and damaged, looking for a replacement but not sure of the name of it
As the title says, my power windows are gone as well as the central locking, the beep when u leave the lights on after turning off the car, and the lights when u open the doors and after some hours battery is flat. Checked all the fuses, all good. Stuck an obd reader and the CCM was throwing codes/failing to read, ordered a new one with the same ref, problems still persist what could it be??
I’m thinking about removing the rusty fenders, paint and polish the car to mirror
Maybe buying a lowering kit? A small spoiler at the back?
Can’t do anything about the engine, it’s 1.6 16v, running on iridium plugs, it’s ok on the road but a pain to drive in the city, have to rev it in order to move, the torque is very high on rpms
