I've been a fan of shoegaze for years now and I think the band's lyrics on so many songs are so poetic and beautiful, and probably my favorite too. For me, their lyrics are both abstract, yet really grounded which sound exactly like how I would describe their music. And the best part is that I really feel like I understand what they mean through them, even if they're usually metaphorical. Even in the brit pop side of their discography they still have consistent lyrics, although the melodies are just slightly different.

I have so many examples of good lyrics but the ones that come to my mind are from Lovelife (Split), Monochrome, I have the Moon and Out Of Control.

Shout-out to Emma and Miki !

I made a visual harmony map of Lush – “For Love” because I’ve always thought the song has this great mix of glittery shoegaze energy and darker chord movement underneath.

The visualization follows the chords around a circle-of-fifths layout, so you can see when the song is sitting in the home key versus when it borrows from somewhere moodier.

I’m calling the project Chordscape. This is only my second video, so I’m still developing the style, but I thought Lush fans might appreciate seeing the song from this angle.

What do you think — does “For Love” feel mostly bright to you, or does it have that sneaky melancholy thing going on?
