[Bloom & Rage] How do we forget this game?

To preface, I know this is just a game. Don't read too much into the following. Good art of any kind is made to make us feel though, and I'm simply just feeling it. And I know many of you are, too.

The most foretelling thing about Bloom & Rage that has stuck with me since I finished it (and then again, and then again) is that quote from near the end of the game:

"The only way we can protect ourselves is if we forget..."

In the same ways the girls had to forget to protect themselves, those of us who were deeply moved by this game have to almost try to forget it in order to get on with our lives. But I can't get it out of my head. And truthfully, I don't want to forget it. Of all my years in playing games, I've never had a story cause so many emotions at once, and with so much staying power. I want to keep feeling how this game made me feel, as overwhelming as it is at the moment. More than that though, I want to know what happens next! But with no tape 3 or update or murmur of a new game in the works, we may have to be happy with what we were given. To find peace with the fact that we may never know what happens next. Is this an allegory for life maybe? Something akin to "better to have loved and lost than to not have loved at all?" I don't know. I'm just rambling through the feelings.

But I won't forget this one any time soon.

I guess a lot of people in this subreddit looked forward to this release since it shares the same 90s setting with Bloom & Rage (without the supernatural stuff) and it looks like it will be a narrative heavy game too.

It will be interesting to see how “Mixtape” captures the atmosphere of the 90s and how it ultimately measures up to “LR: B&R” in terms of themes of sexuality and coming of age.

Update: It is sooo good!

Haven’t done these in some time so let’s go, here are my personal recommendations

-“What's new bloom and rage?” by Caitvi111

This one is fairly new and honestly a cozy read, the fic so far is a bunch of snippets and character exploration. If you’re looking for something breezy then check it out.

Couples: Various, so far we have Autumn x Nora and Swann x Kat

-“Little Snowflake” by ElementFortune

If you’re looking for a Swannsong parenthood au with a sprinkle of angst on the side then this is right up your alley! It’s a must read to any Swann x kat shippers out there! Plus this one comes with awesome art by the fic writer themselves

- “Mercy for the living” by Laliserys

Another classic by the wonderful erys! My god, the angst is immaculate with this one! It had a severely depressed Nora and a guilt ridden Kat- to make it even better they are exes! I’m not gonna spoil what broke them up but it’s brutal

- “Raven and the Lost Girls” by MaddieWren

Maddies whole work is a must read but if I had to pick one for this list I’m gonna go with Raven and the lost girls cause it’s iconic and yall should read it! To make a long story short, Peter Pan au with Kat! It has a very >!Ghost Whisperer-esc vibe!<

Couples: Swann x Kat and Autumn x Nora

-“Strands of Affection” by Hyper-tiredcat

This one was based on my “Solidarity” comic where >!the girls cut their hair for Kat as she undergoes chemo.!< it’s one of those fics that I go back to a lot, it’s such an amazing and bittersweet read. tiredcat went out of their way to explore each of the characters and their relationships. I recommend it for anyone who just finished the game

Jeeeessssuuuuuss I don’t think I’ve had a game that I was this emotionally invested in since life is strange. I knew this game would get sad but I hadn’t bawled my eyes out that hard over a game MULTIPLE times EVER! I instantly fell in love with kat and hearing she had Leukemia just destroyed me. It hit extra close to home since I was also diagnosed with cancer at 16 so I felt for her. Nonetheless I still wanted to romance her and I was emotionally destroyed in the end going through that box seeing all the memories I had to pause a few times to recollect myself. This game was so beautiful and I love all the characters and their story, and I can’t forget the INSANE music. Long story short I’ll miss Kat forever and this game is nothing short of a masterpiece
